Thinking about this (which I really should stop doing), it seems like there's two opposite things happening:

On the one hand, there's gaters projecting onto the other side: Zoe is laughing in public about TFYC, and then their site went down, so clearly she DDOSed them because that's what we'd do - a lot of "They say they're the good ones!" about this.

And on the other hand the standard conspiracy refusal to consider that people are ever acting in any way other than going about their Serious Business - so a mailing list for journalists to talk shit must be the Stonecutters, jokes on it must be serious. It's opposite because it's assuming that the other side don't just spend most of their time dicking around on the internet, like EG the entirety of 4chan. It's gamers failing to understand play.
