After my wife went up 10-0 last night (we ended the night with her 15-2) there was serious domestic discord. I am holding out that it was mere beginner's luck, except that I've only been playing for one day too.

stevie, what's your Live name that they were all ragging on?

I wonder if any of you know a good resource for learning which games are "region free", meaning that they can be played on both a US and European 360? I'm moving to Europe from the US and am considering just buying a new 360 when I arrive, rather than bringing my US one along and buying a European power supply for it---the latter, as I understand it, will cost almost half the price of a new 360. Let me know if you think I'm on the wrong track here. But I ask about the region free games since I have a bunch already and don't want to buy new games in Europe (at first, at any rate, I'm only staying for a year at this point).
― Euler, Friday, 20 March 2009 12:25 (seventeen years ago)
It varies title to title, annoyingly. But yeah, plenty of US games will work in the UK.
Overly complex compatibility list here.

― JimD, Friday, 20 March 2009 13:07 (seventeen years ago)
Oh, sorry, that's not so useful without the link. But if you search this thread for the word "region" you'll get it.
― JimD, Friday, 20 March 2009 13:08 (seventeen years ago)
Thanks, Jim. All my games save GTA4 and the ones I'm already planning on selling are PAL compatible, so no real problem.
Two other related questions, if anyone can help me:
1. I was considering bringing my hard drive with, and then plugging that into the European 360. In particular, I'd like this so that I can continue to play my xbla games. Is this going to work?
2. Will my US controllers work?
I suspect the answer to both is 'yes' but maybe someone here knows better?
― Euler, Friday, 20 March 2009 13:33 (seventeen years ago)
Pads will be fine, the hard drive question is a bit of a tricky one though. I'm not 100% sure on how it works, but as far as I know the DRM which ties an XBLA game to your hard drive ties it to the specific console, as well as (or maybe instead of) to the drive itself, so if you take the drive off and plug it into another console, the games stop working. This is to stop (for example) two kids buying and completing a game each, then swapping hard drives, thus cheating MS out of two additional sales. I could be wrong about this though, it's not something I've tried myself.
― JimD, Friday, 20 March 2009 13:38 (seventeen years ago)
eek, ok, that would changes things. I'll have to look into this further.
― Euler, Friday, 20 March 2009 14:13 (seventeen years ago)
when i switched from using my bro's xbox360 to my own, i simply transferred my XBLA account to the new machine, and transferred my save games via a memory card thingvum - might that solve the problem? obv i had to redownload the XBLA games.
― Darramouss Darramouss will he do the fandango? (stevie), Friday, 20 March 2009 14:30 (seventeen years ago)
ok, that would be cool; I'm trying to avoid having to buy a new hard drive too, but I guess those don't cost that much at this point.
or maybe I'll troll the Paris craigslist for a used 360 instead.
― Euler, Friday, 20 March 2009 14:52 (seventeen years ago)
Guys, I am sorry. I want to play SF2HD with you. But I recently got my F3 back. And I need to play that. Obsessively. My (second character) redhead firecracker just blew up Megaton. Cause she's fucking psycho like that.

seriously, launching this with braid and then following it up with add on bullshit for relatively unpopular games is LAME

no offense to anyone who likes either of them, but ninja gaiden II and battlestations midway DLC seems pretty C list IMHO

maybe the Braid sale was too popular.

i think i only like one-button fire games. really cannot be arsed to spend the time figuring out if i want to use a normal attack or super attack or slide - super attack decapitation combo or whatever. i just end up button mashing.

wow o_O
"While the majority of Xbox 360 owners continue to have a great experience with their console, we are aware that a very small percentage of our customers have reported receiving an error that displays "E74" on their screen. After investigating the issue, we have determined that the E74 error message can indicate the general hardware failure that is associated with three flashing red lights error on the console. As a result, we have decided to cover repairs related to the E74 error message under our three-year warranty program for certain general hardware failures that was announced in July 2007."

did anyone play the xbla banjo kazooie?
― the most naturally gifted poster of his generation (cozwn), Wednesday, 15 April 2009 21:36 (seventeen years ago)
I did! I played through most of it, anyway. Stopped after collecting all the puzzle pieces/notes from each level. I didn't pay enough attention to the fairies throughout the game so I won't know the answers to the quiz, and I recall the final boss battle being a bit aggravating. Then again, that was a decade ago, and this game was unsurprisingly easier this time around than when I was 14. Looks/sounds great, though.
― salsa shark, Wednesday, 15 April 2009 22:10 (seventeen years ago)
I would like to play Banjo-Tooie on xbla eventually as well. I've forgotten most of it except for the level with the dinosaurs and the hot/cold world one.
