feel like the message is at odds w the mechanics but, what do i know
― ♛ LIL UNIT ♛ (thomp), Friday, 11 July 2014 23:32 (eleven years ago)
So I guess the message is you can't win - you try to make it go with more workers, you can't afford it, and if you try to modernize / improve your tech / use automatons revolution happens anyway
― Nhex, Saturday, 12 July 2014 02:13 (eleven years ago)
u click the clock, somehow it gets ok
comme irl
― Neckbread (Will M.), Saturday, 12 July 2014 08:53 (eleven years ago)

i got an 8192
― mookieproof, Monday, 14 July 2014 06:53 (eleven years ago)
i mean the message it teaches is that if you have capital you are right to think that everyone is against you, that your workers are shiftless idiots who will always demand more, that the public are idiots whose wants are tailor made for programmed redundancy , that you are within your rights to use yr influence with govt. to reduce the rights of the populace. this game is worse at politics than theme park
― ♛ LIL UNIT ♛ (thomp), Monday, 14 July 2014 10:49 (eleven years ago)
the dancing mice are cute tho I guess?
― ♛ LIL UNIT ♛ (thomp), Monday, 14 July 2014 10:50 (eleven years ago)
I read it in totally the opposite direction? Note that the 'boss' is a mouse until you drag it to the top and it becomes cattish? And if you lose the results are basically utopia, with production automated and all mice well-fed at last? I may have missed the government-influence mechanics though...
― Doctor Casino, Monday, 14 July 2014 15:32 (eleven years ago)
i meant putting mice in jail
my claim is that the ending sequence is at odds with the story the mechanics tell, and that since this is, allegedly, a game, the latter is more important
also lol that it is harder to make a reasonable profit and retire than bring about a technocratic socialist utopia, thanks for that guy
― ♛ LIL UNIT ♛ (thomp), Monday, 14 July 2014 18:17 (eleven years ago)
so how do you win that game?
― Nhex, Monday, 14 July 2014 18:19 (eleven years ago)
Ah okay, I see. Well, that's fair - the only thing I could offer is that it's a short game, probably meant to be played 1-2 times, so it can operate more like a joke-with-punchline: All along, you were identifying with the bad guys! Whereas if it were a longer thing and you were struggling for hours to better and better exploit the workers, then maybe that would be more uncomfortably dissonant? I mean, this is probably meant to operate as a stripped-down parody/critique of sim games where you really do spend hours/days building the company and reveling in satisfaction as your screen fills up with productive little workstations (that is, as you exploit people more and more thoroughly). The end of WarGames works because Tic Tac Toe doesn't take very long to play or understand. If it was actually as elaborate and consequential as Global Thermonuclear Warfare, it wouldn't be much use as a rhetorical device. Not saying it's great art or anything.
I couldn't figure out how to consistently put mice in jail (sometimes I had the option, sometimes not) or really do anything with the 'police cat.'
On another topic, I sunk a few hours into Westerado the other day - http://games.adultswim.com/westerado-action-online-game.html - before getting frustrated and walking away. There's some lovely art and the core of a cool game there...going around, gathering clues, visiting different places, filling in the map, picking up subquests from people. But it's just a little too brutal in its "get it right the first time" mechanics: there's permadeath and it's wayyy to easy to screw things up or do them out of order (once you've let all the buffalo loose for one quest, how are you supposed to talk to the ranchers for another one?). If it took less time to do everything you could just keep breezing through and trying to refine your game each time.
― Doctor Casino, Monday, 14 July 2014 18:29 (eleven years ago)
wait, you put mice in jail?

Wait, you didn't give up?
― tsrobodo, Thursday, 17 July 2014 14:10 (eleven years ago)
Well, I'm pretty sure you can't win. But the first time I failed in about two seconds b/c I was working out how to scroll without a scroll wheel. The second time... was a bit more harrowing.

for me, the frustration is that it is genuinely not even working! I had it up to 250k per sec and it is now idling in the low 130s. Too many screens freeze up.

Nice! I think the only way they could improve the game would be to license Marvel superheroes.

Be judicious in your matches at night.
― OH MY GOD HE'S OOGLEEE (Leee), Wednesday, 27 August 2014 04:57 (eleven years ago)
During the day, you're levelling up your resources. The only resource I really understand, though, is corn, which replenishes your health. The others just expand your buildings, I think?
At night, you are trying to balance the sword and shield matches, which provide you with bonuses, and the rest, which provide you with creatures to fight (you have to fight to advance time and level up). There is little point to making quick matches unless you need extra bonuses when you accidentally cause a chain reaction, it's better (if less exciting) to fight things one at a time, in order to survive.
My only problem is that the format makes me feel like there should be some incremental shift in narrative, or a revealed endgame at some point, but from the amount I've played so far it seems like this won't happen.
― emil.y, Wednesday, 27 August 2014 13:31 (eleven years ago)
eventually you unlock some gems that during the day let you control time (?) and at night summon a witch (?)
― Mordy, Wednesday, 27 August 2014 14:33 (eleven years ago)
Once your buildings get tall enough you can put a star over them, dunno what that does though.
― OH MY GOD HE'S OOGLEEE (Leee), Wednesday, 27 August 2014 16:28 (eleven years ago)
IDK, it just pisses me off that there isn't so basic instructions about the game mechanics.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 27 August 2014 16:50 (eleven years ago)
The star seems to prioritize the building, so resources go there first. I think.
― Clay, Wednesday, 27 August 2014 21:31 (eleven years ago)
