Mother 3! The sequel to Earthbound!

everyone on this thread is not a clear litmus test of nintendo's target audience. I want mother 3 too but we all know that what they're doing now will make them more money. Still, I think it'd make them a BIT of money to get translators to do Mother 3, surely? Is more money NOT more good or something?

I don't even care about mother 3, I barely touch the DS anymore as is, I just want Earthbound on the VC.

u would want the classic controller for that, because the best part about Earthbound is using the L button for everything

My entire point was that there's no reason not to do both, especially with all the money they're making with this other crap they could throw old school fans a bone besides endless Mario/Metroid/Zelda updates.

Sadly, the GBA is basically dead to new carts right now. And I definitely can't imagine them going to the effort of translating the cart for DS, because that'd mean using another screen, blah blah blah...

they should really just rerelease every GB game ever for the WVC at two bucks a pop.

Earthbound is one of those games I really enjoyed as a kid but think I appreciate more as an adult. There is nothing like it; it's like a video game art piece, but on more than a purely aesthetic level like most games. RPG creators need to spend less time ripping off the Final Fantasy franchise and more time ripping off Earthbound

Earthbound is definitely amazing... as a kid it was this weird wacky throwback kinda game, but now you realize there's so much to appreciate it in. There was a good essay I read about it and its creator a while back, but I totally forget what it is now. How helpful.

I know I can google my way to it, but could somebody hold my hand and explain what's necessary to get this from the website to my DS?

forks - you'll have to spend money to get it to a DS. I'm surprised nobody else on here posted a response earlier as I know there are people on here with more knowledge / experience than me on this kind of stuff. Obviously it would be much easier to play this on your computer via one of the popular gba emulators. Also illegal, but. I've never actually hacked a ds, but I was looking into it recently. To play GBA games on a DS, not only do you need to pick up a slot one micro sd adapter (R4 and the CycloDS seem to be the most popular choices), but also an ezflash 3 in 1 for that goes into slot 2 (the gba slot). There are lots of tutorials on how to make this work on youtube... just do a search for the products I mentioned. There are places to buy both online - just do a google search. You also will obviously need a ROM image of the Japanese game and the patch.

I've played through some of it today and it looks to be really well done, a real labour of love.

Nintendo should get some money to these guys and get the translation released for real. Are there any logistical, political, publishing, or commercial reasons why they wouldn't? The main entrenched cost in this kind of project is the translation isn't it? I imagine they would get labour for a snippet of the price from these dudes, were they to choose to 'license' it.

FINALLY playing this; I have never seen a game try to convey genuine pathos! It almost works, but it's still kinda funny.
Obvs, writing is great, general interaction very engaging. Just getting started tho'.

hella fun; I'm at chapter 7 and cruising through. I named the father Obama and the mother Oprah, which has led to all manner of lolz.

Avoiding spoilers at all costs... Got through Chapter 1, this is great so far. BUT.

I cannot get the damn musical timing down at all. This is very possibly due to the emulator I'm using, and my options are quite limited on Mac - is this game still playable without being able to do the huge multihit combos? I can't ever do more than 2.

i never really got the hang of it & finished the game with no problems at all. just forget its there.

holy shit my flash cart just showed up and I can finally play this fucking thing! oh man too many great games to play right now.

I definitely feel like I have to grind a little more than I should because of it, but it's livable, especially compared to the frustration of Earthbound's encounters. Still enjoying every minute of this.

On a random whim I decided to buy the Mother 3 Guidebook after looking at all of the pretty typography on the site where they sell it. It's a fucking amazing package for something made by a bunch of eccentric fans!
