haven't reached the gutter yet but i guess that is the new world 5/blighttown huh? brilliant

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 17 March 2014 21:11 (twelve years ago)

is that what's down the well? don't tell me.

So many weapons, hard decisions. I'm pushing STR but so many of the big fuck off swords I want to use scale hard with DEX as much or more. I might go Great Club. Good move set and A STR scaling off the bat.

circa1916, Tuesday, 18 March 2014 02:47 (twelve years ago)

ha i'm having same problem. i wanna use the drangleic claymore but i don't have the dex. i did two-hand the great club against an invader to great effect, even though i lost it pancaked him flat on the ground

ok google open brazzers (am0n), Tuesday, 18 March 2014 05:52 (twelve years ago)

finally defeated that stupid horse (solo) after countless tries. i ended up getting very good at rolling under the spikes instead of standing in the alcoves, and on my successful run i didn't even take any damage, lol. turns out doing so wasn't worth much besides the sense of accomplishment.

now i'm venturing into Harvest Valley, so desolate. i feel like my path choices at this point are poison vs poison.

festival culture (Jordan), Tuesday, 18 March 2014 15:36 (twelve years ago)

i dunno, that blood guy had some great dialogue

ok google open brazzers (am0n), Tuesday, 18 March 2014 16:58 (twelve years ago)

ha. i admit i killed him and took his hood because i'm not really trying to invade anyone.

festival culture (Jordan), Tuesday, 18 March 2014 17:02 (twelve years ago)

oh btw, apparently killing the boss at the same time it kills you doesn't count for anything in this game.

festival culture (Jordan), Tuesday, 18 March 2014 17:26 (twelve years ago)

Just beat Mytha the Baneful Queen after a frustratingly poison-soaked couple of hours trying. Now I'm amusing myself joining co-op games and watching players who haven't yet realised the One Weird Tip to dealing with her poison wade into swift and inevitable deaths.

(FUCK A POISON btw)

bizarro gazzara, Tuesday, 18 March 2014 20:48 (twelve years ago)

Yeah, putting your summon sign down in front of that boss seems like it would be an exercise in frustration.

circa1916, Tuesday, 18 March 2014 20:56 (twelve years ago)

I'm still at Forest of the Giants, looks like I need to put in some more hours!

bizarro gazzara, Tuesday, 18 March 2014 23:28 (twelve years ago)

wow that guy's a dick

Angkor Waht (Neil S), Wednesday, 19 March 2014 09:24 (twelve years ago)

Smelter Demon was giving me hell last night. First time I’ve had to redo a boss often enough to stop enemies from respawning. Apparently there's a shield out there that makes this a lot easier, might have to track it down.

Got to experience The Gutter and (lol) Black Gulch last night. Good to see From keeping everyone’s favorite Valley of Defilment/Blighttown template alive. I honestly didn’t mind The Gutter too much. It was the first time I extensively used the torch and it’s kind of a fun mechanic IMO. Black Gulch is a straight up middle finger though. I guess it’s more of a quick obstacle course you need to sprint through before the fog door, but God help anyone trying to FIGHT through that.

circa1916, Wednesday, 19 March 2014 13:00 (twelve years ago)

I only managed to beat the Smelter Demon with support from co-op helpers. Wasn't thrilled to see the Pursuer pop back up after the Smelter Demon was vanquished :(

bizarro gazzara, Wednesday, 19 March 2014 15:08 (twelve years ago)

Also, I met a guy called stiffmeister666 last night. Not quite pizzalawyer420 but it still made me laugh.

bizarro gazzara, Wednesday, 19 March 2014 15:12 (twelve years ago)

invaders are always like 'DatD1ckwraith' or something (real example)

festival culture (Jordan), Wednesday, 19 March 2014 15:14 (twelve years ago)

I went human three times for Smelter, but the summoned help was mostly useless. :/

So how about that giant, non-aggressive insect in The Gutter. Nobody seems to know its purpose.

circa1916, Thursday, 20 March 2014 12:14 (twelve years ago)

isn't one of the starting items a weird egg/larva type thing? Maybe you can offer that up...

Angkor Waht (Neil S), Thursday, 20 March 2014 12:23 (twelve years ago)

i ran around the shaded ruins for awhile before it sunk in that i had no business being there yet, and i'm curious about the silent/sleeping man with the body of a giant scorpion...

festival culture (Jordan), Thursday, 20 March 2014 13:19 (twelve years ago)

i think there's a ring that allows you to talk to that guy.

circa1916, Thursday, 20 March 2014 13:56 (twelve years ago)

I haven't had any time to play this since knocking out 3 bosses over the weekend. i'm waaaay back in...wherever you are when you've defeated the two heide tower bosses and the wharf boss.

Karl Malone, Thursday, 20 March 2014 13:59 (twelve years ago)

i'm still just exploring the forest of giants... need a day or two to devote.

We hugged with no names exchanged (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 20 March 2014 15:26 (twelve years ago)

i spent less time on skeleton lords and chariot combined than i did getting the lockstone that you have to jump to. the real truth about this series of games is they are at their most sadistic when they make you do anything that approximates platforming.

Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 20 March 2014 15:39 (twelve years ago)

oh yeah i died a bunch of times trying to do that, then gave up.

festival culture (Jordan), Thursday, 20 March 2014 15:41 (twelve years ago)

Think I'm pretty close to finishing, just going round trying to find anything I missed now. Have had a lot less trouble than I did with first but guessing the final boss will be a real pain.

devvvine, Thursday, 20 March 2014 16:06 (twelve years ago)

DS and DS2 do secrets better than any game I've ever played. It's so satisfying to discover a hidden area, and they're always so well integrated.

Dan I., Thursday, 20 March 2014 17:30 (twelve years ago)

i'm sure i'm missing lots of explodable walls.

festival culture (Jordan), Thursday, 20 March 2014 17:37 (twelve years ago)

Yeah turned out I missed a load of hidden bonfires near boss fights. Black Gulch is worth exploring a bit more.

devvvine, Thursday, 20 March 2014 17:41 (twelve years ago)

yeah. this one makes it even trickier by having some of the secrets accessible by a button press instead of a weapon smack.

circa1916, Thursday, 20 March 2014 17:44 (twelve years ago)

i've been missing a lot of obvious stuff 'cause i'll see a path on some initial exploration and think 'hmm, that looks like it goes on awhile, i'll come back later' then totally forgetting about it. i'm into it though, it's nice to be able to come back to an area and have things left to discover, without worrying about making it to the boss.

Dan I., Thursday, 20 March 2014 22:19 (twelve years ago)

lol i got eaten (and spat out) by the Covetous Demon. it was worth it.

earthen peak is pretty fun.

festival culture (Jordan), Friday, 21 March 2014 15:46 (twelve years ago)

just started playing this, they certainly didn't dumb it down lol. framerate is pretty crappy so far, not Blighttown bad but not great either. got a good laugh from reading the inscription on the monument by the sea.

( X '____' )/ (zappi), Friday, 21 March 2014 16:44 (twelve years ago)

I beat the last boss earlier today... and I've only collected three of the four old souls. Hmm.

bizarro gazzara, Friday, 21 March 2014 21:14 (twelve years ago)

The story-ending boss, I mean - the one in Drangleic Castle.

bizarro gazzara, Friday, 21 March 2014 21:16 (twelve years ago)

Brightstone Cove is such a shit level. Anti-fun.

circa1916, Sunday, 23 March 2014 00:58 (twelve years ago)

oh god just got lost down a Dark Souls k-hole

( X '____' )/ (zappi), Sunday, 23 March 2014 01:15 (twelve years ago)

Lol @ the second half of the Iron Keep. Banner day for torturous levels.

circa1916, Sunday, 23 March 2014 02:17 (twelve years ago)

I think I'm done for the evening.

circa1916, Sunday, 23 March 2014 02:18 (twelve years ago)

cruising along now...2nd half of iron keep was a breeze thanks to a helpful phantom (the only time i've summoned someone outside of a boss fight, just on a whim), and the gutter/grave/gulch was surprisingly not that bad. i didn't light anything in the gutter (do you just have to use flame butterflies?) and somehow made it to the bonfire near the end...that was the most careful i've been the entire game, but the enemies aren't that bad, as long as you watch out for the drops and poison statues.

black gulch is crazy but thankfully short, managed to do the Rotten solo on the 2nd try. now i guess it's time to do the Shaded Ruins for real? i think that's the only open path i haven't gone through.
