i actually like the speed and move set of the regular longsword. i was happy getting +5 lightning on one of them. i did one build with a chaos greataxe. that was really brutal, and so different to play

longsword is also good, claymore too. using the latter in demons souls currently, moveset is different but that stagger is still there

i did it! it's done. final dark souls blog:

-i was all psyched up for pinwheel after finally getting through the catacombs for the first time, and the intimidating cut scene, and then he went down in one hit! i was almost disappointed.

-then nito was the exact opposite - finally made it through the tomb, feeling good, and then i died one second into the fight (before even seeing him) via giant sword coming up from the ground. same thing happened the second time. i read on the wiki that he doesn't like light, and even though i wasn't using the lantern i unequipped it and, just to be safe, the cloranthy ring which kinda glows. probably dumb and unrelated, but the next time he didn't do it and it was an fight easy.

-died many, many times against gwyn until i got comfortable enough to stay close & parry without getting grabbed (nothing else worked for me, target shield helped a lot too).

nice, feels good to parry gwyn doesnt it. did you do the artorias dlc?

no, i thought about it but didn't end up bothering. if DS2 wasn't coming out in a week i would definitely have done it before beating the game, or would be going for it with a new character (i don't think i'm a new game + type of dude).

ha, I'd never had one of these drop in any of the 100s of Silver Knights I'd joylessly farmed while stuck in pre-Smough hell last week, then the first one I fought after I read this post dropped one. it's kinda cool how you can press R2 and not have to go make a drink while you're waiting for the attack to come out; I am not a DEXTERITY guy particularly though so I will probably alternate between that and my eight foot long sword

what is an easy way to be able to permanently kill skeletons when I'm first going through the catacombs? Do I want to disenchant my OCCULT CLUB into a DIVINE CLUB?

that will work. if you've got astora's straight sword that'll work too.

xp yeah easier in the sense of requiring less strength, more dexterity!

really enjoyed the final gauntlet of casually dispatching black knights so the game can show you how far you've come and then you close out with a battle against a formidable enemy who requires you to use all the skills you've accumulated so far but instead you just repeatedly stab him in the back while he fucks around chasing after solaire

Attention 360 owners who haven't played this yet: Dark Souls will be free on Games with Gold for the first two weeks in June.

so i've been going back to DS1 with a ninja + pyro character, just started the DLC portion. it's way easier in some ways ('cause i'm mad experienced now) and harder in others (i'm not as good at using a dex character with light armor and lower damage per hit).

also i fucked up the whole pyromancy thing. first, by killing the egg guy because i accidentally answered his question incorrectly and he wouldn't let me by. then later laurentius split town to go find quelaana, but she's not showing up for me because i never fully upgraded my pyromancy flame! so no vendors, no way to upgrade or buy more spells.

oh interesting, i'll have to go back and check periodically. currently at level 55, post-ornstein & smough. i think she appeared in my original game when i wasn't a pyromancer at all, come to think of it.

felt pretty good about beating Artorias the other day. the dlc seems like it'll keep me occupied for quite some time.

manus is driving me crazy. i can get him to under half health, but need to learn the tells for his different magic attacks.
