― Mordy, Thursday, 5 March 2009 03:37 (seventeen years ago)
so kind of feel like this is impossible, but the demo for wheelman seems like the game will be really good?
― ITS BEEN SIX MONTHS. TIME FOR YOUR CHECKUP. (jjjusten), Saturday, 7 March 2009 02:27 (seventeen years ago)
between this and riddick demo it is like VIN DIESEL OVERLOAD week on XBL
the hilariously shoddy and awful half-rate faux fight club dialog in the wanted demos tutorial mode is well worth the time it takes to download it. some absolutely priceless own your life videogamer fatty self-aware pomo nudge nudge fantasy stuff. (note: i am certain that the game is crap, and i was kind of drunk when i was playing it so it might not be quite as hysterically awful sober, but what the hell, its free.)
made saints rows self-indulgent scripted violence (which i played afterward) seem erudite and witty in comparison

If you guys like Contra or other side-scrollers, I suggest you download the trial of Weapon of Choice from the Community Games section. Very enjoyable and cool.

Weapon of Choice sounds great! I'll download the demo today. Do you know if it has co-op over Xbox Live?
― Euler, Sunday, 8 March 2009 14:35 (seventeen years ago)
Not sure if it's 2p.
― Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Sunday, 8 March 2009 23:14 (seventeen years ago)
Added the new "freind" tags in this thread today. Mine is jefflev13 if you're wondering where that request came from. It's a bummer you can't send a text message along with the request, or can you?
― Jeff LeVine, Sunday, 8 March 2009 23:21 (seventeen years ago)
I tried the Weapon of Choice demo, not 2p sadly, but it was really fun. The dynamic of getting close to getting killed and having a grim reaper start to glow on the screen, changing the visuals and the music to reflect how immanent your doom is, is clever and neat. I haven't bought it yet, but for 400 pts I very well might (need to try the demo a few more times).
― Euler, Monday, 9 March 2009 13:58 (seventeen years ago)
That new Squaresoft game comes out this week on Arcade. Does anyone know anything about it?
― Mordy, Monday, 9 March 2009 14:00 (seventeen years ago)
i added you earlier Jeff, but your high scores on Geometry Wars kind of made me regret it...
― sonderangerbot, Monday, 9 March 2009 22:44 (seventeen years ago)
so the xbox gold deal of the week pulls me in with braid for cheap, follows it up with ninja gaiden II expansion i dont care about, and now all they're willing to give me is some PGR4 map pack? eat shit THROW ME SOME MORE STANDALONES YOU DICKS.
― oscarbate (jjjusten), Monday, 9 March 2009 22:49 (seventeen years ago)
yeah that's some bullshit. I'm happy about Braid, I wasn't going to buy it at $15 but I did it at $10.
― Euler, Tuesday, 10 March 2009 01:33 (seventeen years ago)
that PGR4 map-pack, half of that stuff was on the free upgrade from a while back anyway wasn't it? (ie flux, tourist option etc)
Played weapons of fate demo last night...may have to play again, atmospheric but I'm not so sure about the gameplay, especially the curved bullet thing.
― problem chimp (Porkpie), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 07:42 (seventeen years ago)

― ledge, Tuesday, 10 March 2009 16:07 (seventeen years ago)
Have you played it?
― Mordy, Tuesday, 10 March 2009 17:22 (seventeen years ago)
yeh had a few goes, thought it was an ok little game, no desire to play it again, no idea why everyone is losing their nuts over it.
― ledge, Tuesday, 10 March 2009 18:53 (seventeen years ago)
it ate a few days of my life.
― ILM is a gross place full of coersion and sexual manipulation (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 18:57 (seventeen years ago)

― Greg Tamacki or Greg Tang (jeff), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 21:43 (seventeen years ago)

― bnw, Tuesday, 10 March 2009 21:46 (seventeen years ago)
nevermind, i can google. peggle is out tomorrow. nice. wish it were out today.
― filipino wilson (jeff), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 22:27 (seventeen years ago)
braid is super impressive, and super hard. some of the puzzles makes me wonder if there's something wrong with it.
― sonderangerbot, Tuesday, 10 March 2009 23:46 (seventeen years ago)
There's nothing wrong with it.
― Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Wednesday, 11 March 2009 00:23 (seventeen years ago)

We can multi-peggle, yeah? If so, I'm sold.
― JimD, Wednesday, 11 March 2009 22:49 (seventeen years ago)
Got the demo, still don't get it. But if there's multiplayer fun might pony up anyway.
― ledge, Wednesday, 11 March 2009 22:55 (seventeen years ago)
It just seems pretty random to me, where is the skill?
― ledge, Wednesday, 11 March 2009 22:56 (seventeen years ago)
we can multi-peggle, yeah
I have it, so hit me up :D
― cozwn, Wednesday, 11 March 2009 22:59 (seventeen years ago)
Well, it is pretty random. But it's not completely random, you can get better with practice. And it's not really clear where your skill stops and the randomness starts - you can be pretty good and still have it go painfully wrong (or be pretty bad and have it go amazingly right), and for some reason that makes it stupidly addictive. I think this is a very specific category of games, there's one on the iphone too called sneezies, where you're basically setting up initial conditions and hoping for a good outcome from a semi-chaotic system. I think a lot of solitaire card games are like this too, except then it's the initial conditions which are randomly fixed, and the game lies in trying to engineer a good outcome. In all of them, the challenge comes from the urge to figure out how much of the result was due to the random aspect and how much was due to your input (so that you can then refine that input). And I think the addictiveness lies in the fact that actually, it's impossible to completely work out where the dividing line is, but you CAN feel like you're getting closer and closer to it. So you carry on wanting one more go.
Anyway, I'm working until 1am tonight, so I won't be on. But I'll give it a go tomorrow night.
― JimD, Wednesday, 11 March 2009 23:10 (seventeen years ago)
What is multi-peggle??
― Mordy, Wednesday, 11 March 2009 23:10 (seventeen years ago)
I just meant online multiplayer peggle. Don't know how it works, yet.
― JimD, Wednesday, 11 March 2009 23:12 (seventeen years ago)
waaaaaaaaaaaaaait, online peggle? DLing now.
― WOOKIE JOHNSON (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 12 March 2009 01:04 (seventeen years ago)
yes I am very interested in this, d/ling demo now
― Euler, Thursday, 12 March 2009 01:22 (seventeen years ago)
it reminds me of the best pinball games, where you can have little skill but still see a lot of flashing lights and sounds and points piling up so you feel like a bad-ass.
tried geometry wars for the first time tonight and was much more O_O over that.
― bnw, Thursday, 12 March 2009 04:12 (seventeen years ago)
i am not RRODing, but i seem to be getting stuck at the signing in screen with the pulsing green circle. worrisome.
