― i didn't even give much of a fuck that you were mod (forksclovetofu), Thursday, June 27, 2013

well have i got the mother of all pro-tips for you
― Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, June 27, 2013 5:18 PM

btw, this was totally true! i reached a point where playing without a shield was gonna be a nightmare and maybe impossible with the build i made and that's why i ended up quitting. Months later I returned, remembered this note, started playing with a shield and had a MAJOR forehead slapping moment.

PSY talks The Nut Job (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 27 February 2014 20:39 (twelve years ago)

haha.

i can only beat the black knights through parries, which, you know, can take a few tries.

festival culture (Jordan), Thursday, 27 February 2014 21:04 (twelve years ago)

lol, can't imagine trying to play this game through the first time w/out a shield.

circa1916, Thursday, 27 February 2014 21:09 (twelve years ago)

(also, srsly, you gotta retire that Drake Sword now)

circa1916, Thursday, 27 February 2014 21:10 (twelve years ago)

I favour the claymore and so I've tried two-handed but I find it only works in certain circumstances.

Insane Prince of False Binaries (Gukbe), Thursday, 27 February 2014 21:10 (twelve years ago)

people HATE that drake sword

PSY talks The Nut Job (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 27 February 2014 22:36 (twelve years ago)

hollows HATE him

am0n, Thursday, 27 February 2014 22:51 (twelve years ago)

I have a Black Knight Greatsword +4; accidentally used my twinkling titanites on upgrading that instead of the normal BK sword, then thought fuck it, might as well spend an afternoon getting my strength up to 32 so I could pick the cunt up

it carves everything into mush in 2-3 hits tops but the hits are veeeery sloooow

random accies memories (Sgt. Biscuits), Thursday, 27 February 2014 22:53 (twelve years ago)

I was one hit off killing Super Smough with it last night then accidentally drank an Estus flask while he was doing his death buttslam

since then I have been further and further away from being able to beat them as my in game and irl humanity dwindle alarmingly

random accies memories (Sgt. Biscuits), Thursday, 27 February 2014 22:56 (twelve years ago)

The Silver Knight Straight Sword is nearly as powerful but a lot easier to wield.

Kim Wrong-un (Neil S), Friday, 28 February 2014 09:37 (twelve years ago)

balder side sword

am0n, Friday, 28 February 2014 15:48 (twelve years ago)

will second that. love the balder side sword.

circa1916, Friday, 28 February 2014 15:55 (twelve years ago)

i actually like the speed and move set of the regular longsword. i was happy getting +5 lightning on one of them. i did one build with a chaos greataxe. that was really brutal, and so different to play

Roberto Spiralli, Friday, 28 February 2014 16:04 (twelve years ago)

longsword is also good, claymore too. using the latter in demons souls currently, moveset is different but that stagger is still there

am0n, Friday, 28 February 2014 16:13 (twelve years ago)

bed of chaos time. i've been falling into assorted holes.

festival culture (Jordan), Friday, 28 February 2014 17:51 (twelve years ago)

i did it! it's done. final dark souls blog:

-i was all psyched up for pinwheel after finally getting through the catacombs for the first time, and the intimidating cut scene, and then he went down in one hit! i was almost disappointed.

-then nito was the exact opposite - finally made it through the tomb, feeling good, and then i died one second into the fight (before even seeing him) via giant sword coming up from the ground. same thing happened the second time. i read on the wiki that he doesn't like light, and even though i wasn't using the lantern i unequipped it and, just to be safe, the cloranthy ring which kinda glows. probably dumb and unrelated, but the next time he didn't do it and it was an fight easy.

-died many, many times against gwyn until i got comfortable enough to stay close & parry without getting grabbed (nothing else worked for me, target shield helped a lot too).

festival culture (Jordan), Monday, 3 March 2014 16:25 (twelve years ago)

nice, feels good to parry gwyn doesnt it. did you do the artorias dlc?

am0n, Monday, 3 March 2014 17:14 (twelve years ago)

no, i thought about it but didn't end up bothering. if DS2 wasn't coming out in a week i would definitely have done it before beating the game, or would be going for it with a new character (i don't think i'm a new game + type of dude).

festival culture (Jordan), Monday, 3 March 2014 17:23 (twelve years ago)

dude, feeling very behind.

PSY talks The Nut Job (forksclovetofu), Monday, 3 March 2014 18:20 (twelve years ago)

congrats tho

PSY talks The Nut Job (forksclovetofu), Monday, 3 March 2014 18:20 (twelve years ago)

ha, I'd never had one of these drop in any of the 100s of Silver Knights I'd joylessly farmed while stuck in pre-Smough hell last week, then the first one I fought after I read this post dropped one. it's kinda cool how you can press R2 and not have to go make a drink while you're waiting for the attack to come out; I am not a DEXTERITY guy particularly though so I will probably alternate between that and my eight foot long sword

what is an easy way to be able to permanently kill skeletons when I'm first going through the catacombs? Do I want to disenchant my OCCULT CLUB into a DIVINE CLUB?

random accies memories (Sgt. Biscuits), Monday, 3 March 2014 19:06 (twelve years ago)

that will work. if you've got astora's straight sword that'll work too.

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 3 March 2014 19:09 (twelve years ago)

xp yeah easier in the sense of requiring less strength, more dexterity!

Kim Wrong-un (Neil S), Monday, 3 March 2014 19:15 (twelve years ago)

true confession: i have an insane week of work lined up this week, and i finished gwyn before going in this morning so that i wouldn't be thinking about it when staying late.

if he's playing straight through and that's not skipping deaths, he's doing a hell of a lot better than i did
although did he just kill the sun guy?

PSY talks The Nut Job (forksclovetofu), Friday, 7 March 2014 15:42 (twelve years ago)

his playthrough is pretty hilarious. i think he played using keyboard/mouse too yikes

am0n, Saturday, 8 March 2014 00:38 (twelve years ago)

fucking hell, so now i gotta beat the smough guy

PSY talks The Nut Job (forksclovetofu), Saturday, 8 March 2014 07:17 (twelve years ago)

put on curse-resistant gear / crest shield, circle-strafe and chop at tails

am0n, Monday, 10 March 2014 17:40 (twelve years ago)

cool, do you mean for seath or for the caves or for both?

PSY talks The Nut Job (forksclovetofu), Monday, 10 March 2014 22:09 (twelve years ago)

for seath. i just run past everything in the caves after ive gone thru once

am0n, Monday, 10 March 2014 23:05 (twelve years ago)

so that's seath taken out. easy if you have the cursebite ring; thanks for the warning!
catacomb exploration was SO satisfying, pinwheel was a pushover.
promptly fell to my death while starting toward the tomb of the giants.
I am feeling very close and ready.

PSY talks The Nut Job (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 12 March 2014 14:32 (twelve years ago)

I did Nito and Sif last night, both pretty fun fights

Sif selling the leg when he's down to his last sliver of health is some manly emotional tears shit imo

random accies memories (Sgt. Biscuits), Wednesday, 12 March 2014 15:02 (twelve years ago)

i kinda barely noticed; just whalin' on him

PSY talks The Nut Job (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 12 March 2014 19:27 (twelve years ago)

congrats!

forks you're almost there.

festival culture (Jordan), Wednesday, 12 March 2014 20:51 (twelve years ago)

really enjoyed the final gauntlet of casually dispatching black knights so the game can show you how far you've come and then you close out with a battle against a formidable enemy who requires you to use all the skills you've accumulated so far but instead you just repeatedly stab him in the back while he fucks around chasing after solaire
