I showed a friend this yesterday and we proceeded to play through uninterrupted for about 5 1/2 hours straight, beating the game once and getting about 1/4 way through finding all the secret ties. It is amazing and you will constantly be laughing at the ridiculous situations the octopus gets in. You play as an octopus who somehow has a human family, and the controls are QWOP-style awkwardness that is really difficult to get the hang of at first, but once you do it is really amazing what you can do as an octopus. Probably the most surreal and absurd game I've ever played!

The writing in it is wonderful too. It has a nice amount of heart and (very light) cynicism, plenty of humor, and a great story arc.

The reviews have been sort of mild, cos it does have a steep learning curve wrt controls. But most of the fun is watching this octopus in a tuxedo utterly destroying human environments while people around you just stop and stare and try and figure out what the hell is going on.

Ha, that does look really charming, especially as Octodad reminds me of Prof. Zoidberg. Love the idea of just crashing around into stuff, flailing tentacles all over the place.

It's mad he's getting so mad. He's playing a dance game with his fingers! He gets a 500+ move combo before the first rage attack. Love the resigned tone in his voice at the end like "look at all these holes in my house... I should maybe not play this..."

He should monetise that video and he might make enough to replace the monitor and buy some wall filler...

Haha, yeah, this has been doing my head in. Truly a work of art.

They just had a plebiscite (apparently now a rolling permanent plebiscite?) on 'anarchy' (what we've been watching) vs 'democracy' (new system). Democracy won, so this may get a lot more boring, except for the possibility of watching frustrated competent voters up against nefarious saboteur spammers.

How far did they get in the game befor the plebiscite

The winning move would have been to keep it running and wait to see if enough attention died off so that a core group of devotees could control the game enough to advance

No clue, I've never played Pokemon so I can't tell! I expect that once they get past something particularly damning like this maze, the popular will to maintain "democracy" will collapse and anarchy will reign once more.

It is genius. So now as well as people typing 'left', 'right', etc., people are spamming 'democracy' and 'anarchy' to make the slider move. Meanwhile, the player character is taking ten minutes to cross a room.

Now we're stuck in a corner, and people are spamming 'left', which means we're stuck facing a wall.

they added multiple input commands to the democracy mode too, like left2down2

That one way maze was painful to watch. Now all they have to do is walk left across a room towards a (I think) gym leader.
