I've been leery of not using covers for characters I like; I have Thor at 5 green covers and at level cap, but I'd have liked to have yellow at 5 instead. but I got the green drop first. it's changed the way I play a bit but I like that, a serendipitous way to try a different way of bashing Hammer peons

Euler, Wednesday, 11 December 2013 16:39 (twelve years ago)

I'm at 2-4-4 on Wolvie. I don't use the red power much because I'm usually using Thor also with him and Thor's red bash is the sauce, especially buffed

Euler, Wednesday, 11 December 2013 16:41 (twelve years ago)

here's how OP modern Hawkeye is in The Hunt:

I was playing the penultimate Alaska* fight with the lvl 136 Pyro and lvl 97 Daken and got enough red and blue matches to set Hawk's red and blue countdown tiles. While they went off, I used is purple and blue match strength to down the Pyro; the turn after the Pyro went down, both countdowns went off and 1-shotted the rest of the team, including the lvl 97 Daken.

I love this character in this event and I will be very sad when it ends. Also for the love of god someone give me an Invisible Woman card.

* I think it's Alaska? the first Hunt board

SHAUN (DJP), Wednesday, 11 December 2013 16:58 (twelve years ago)

I just got modern Hawkeye and he seems awesome. Plus, I can only hope for Pizza Dog

mh, Wednesday, 11 December 2013 17:20 (twelve years ago)

I keep getting my ass beat hardcore by Daken, every time. Need to figure out what is up with that.

mh, Wednesday, 11 December 2013 17:20 (twelve years ago)

my maxed thor is 3 on red and my classic storm 3 on green. regret both -- the classic storm more.

i'm all about critical tiles in the hunt. match em with purple or blue hawkeye and i can do 2700 damage. a few of those and i can take down an entire team.

lollercoaster of rove (s.clover), Wednesday, 11 December 2013 17:49 (twelve years ago)

this is why I love the crit tile board so much; if you can get a crit off an environmental tile match, you can spam the board with crit tiles and wipe a team out in one turn

SHAUN (DJP), Wednesday, 11 December 2013 17:58 (twelve years ago)

Reached the final reward level of The Hunt (30,000 pts) to get that Iron Man Model 40 Red card.
what am i doing with my life, he says to himself

Nhex, Wednesday, 11 December 2013 23:01 (twelve years ago)

He's winning, obviously.

Matt Groening's Cousin (Leee), Wednesday, 11 December 2013 23:03 (twelve years ago)

feeling a little, dare i say, burnt out on this just now

Strangers look on with a discernible, barely contained ‘wow’. (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 11 December 2013 23:17 (twelve years ago)

it's hard, with all the events, to feel like you're making progress. & getting a bunch of shit draws sags my spirits.

Euler, Wednesday, 11 December 2013 23:37 (twelve years ago)

of course then i played since i posted

Strangers look on with a discernible, barely contained ‘wow’. (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 11 December 2013 23:39 (twelve years ago)

this is probably as close as i'll ever come to playing an mmo

lollercoaster of rove (s.clover), Thursday, 12 December 2013 00:42 (twelve years ago)

Eh actually doing decent in this bad is good thing. Bullseye protect tiles, and my jacked up venom, and rag make it pretty easy so far.

It's like a slap in the face every single time.

Jeff, Thursday, 12 December 2013 21:47 (twelve years ago)

y'all get it now

Nhex, Thursday, 12 December 2013 21:48 (twelve years ago)

also hawkeye/black widow draw again and again

Strangers look on with a discernible, barely contained ‘wow’. (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 12 December 2013 21:56 (twelve years ago)

at least have the decency to give me modern hawkeye, you asshole game
(or pizza dog)

mh, Thursday, 12 December 2013 22:04 (twelve years ago)

We're all in an abusive relationship.

Matt Groening's Cousin (Leee), Thursday, 12 December 2013 22:19 (twelve years ago)

Most of this is old news for a lot of you but i actually learned a thing or two:

Environmental Tiles
These are the tiles that aren't a solid color and have some design on them that goes with the background behind the characters.
The number of AP generated by matching them is determined by the highest environmental damage - if your highest character is 4, then a 3 match gives you 12 environmental AP (EP?)
Critical tiles multiply the number of tiles you receive. If your crit is 3x and your environmental number is 4, a 2 tile, 1 crit match would yield (4 + 4) * 3 = 24 environmental AP
They aren't randomly chosen, in a given PvP or PvE event, the same missions or sections of the room always have the same tiles. Standard PvP, the top is the computer room, the left is the forest and the right is the city
The max number of environmental AP you can have is 400

Covers
Covers are needed to raise your character's level
The max covers you can apply to any one color of a character is 5
If a character has 2 color abilities, you can max both of them out - 10 covers or 5/5
If a character has 3 color abilities, you can only apply 13 covers yielding 5/5/3 or 5/4/4 in your chosen combination
Once you find/win a cover you can use HP to increase that color or wait until you find/win more

Matching
Matching 4 or more tiles in a row/column will destroy all of the tiles in that row/column
Matching 5 or more tiles in any shape (T, L, +) will yield a critical tile and give you an extra turn

Strangers look on with a discernible, barely contained ‘wow’. (forksclovetofu), Friday, 13 December 2013 02:18 (twelve years ago)

Didn't realize about the different shapes with 5 matches!

Should I continue to hammer on one mission in the vain hopes of grilling hero points, or should I move on top new missions?

Matt Groening's Cousin (Leee), Friday, 13 December 2013 06:10 (twelve years ago)

if it's still unchecked in your rewards list for that mission, keep grinding. besides you have another 36 hrs~ to do the other set

Nhex, Friday, 13 December 2013 07:14 (twelve years ago)

Meant prologue missions, not featured missions. :-/

Matt Groening's Cousin (Leee), Friday, 13 December 2013 07:21 (twelve years ago)

btw that crit multiplier is really why modern Hawkeye rules so hard, get a 4 or 5 tile environmental crit in the lab and it's game over

SHAUN (DJP), Friday, 13 December 2013 07:22 (twelve years ago)

this is such a depressing thing to do and i am actively embarrassed doing it but the only way i feel i am continuing to make progress in this godforsaken treadmill of pointless timewasting is to chronicle my SHOOPERHEWO ROSTER in excruciating detail. it is a coping mechanism.

Strangers look on with a discernible, barely contained ‘wow’. (forksclovetofu), Friday, 13 December 2013 07:23 (twelve years ago)

sitting on a red astonishing wolvie cover cuz i dunno if i wanna go 5/4/5 or 5/5/3 instead of 4/5/4

Strangers look on with a discernible, barely contained ‘wow’. (forksclovetofu), Friday, 13 December 2013 07:26 (twelve years ago)

Ha w should the cap'n be used? Just doest seem to work in most combos I've tried.

Jeff, Friday, 13 December 2013 13:03 (twelve years ago)

Cap works best as a support character doing chip damage and pumping tiles back into other characters IMO; like, you use him to do bits of dmg and hopefully set up a cycle where his he keeps returning piles of red and blue to you so that you can fire off your big dmg characters like Thor. Also his protect ability can be a lifesaver and he has enough HP to be an emergency tank if your big guy goes down

you could probably make yourself close to invulnerable using a levelled Cap and Bullseye together

SHAUN (DJP), Friday, 13 December 2013 14:25 (twelve years ago)

his protect ability is useful for forcing critical 5-gem combos (see also Magneto Marvel Now's blue power and Black Widow Grey Suit's green power)

cap's blue ability is great just because you can loop stuns by getting one blue match in-between activations, they'll get off one attack from that character every three turns. it's a great shutdown tool

Nhex, Friday, 13 December 2013 15:01 (twelve years ago)

yes, that's how I use cap: pump stuns & red blasts for little cost. and his yellow protect gets so strong that regular attacks won't beat you down (those protect tiles don't help much though when a buffed Thor brings the hammer down)

Euler, Friday, 13 December 2013 15:15 (twelve years ago)

I think maybe I've gone off the deep end; I started a spreadsheet to get a statistical sample of drop rates from Standard tokens. Please tell me somebody's already done this on the internet so I can stop myself.

Nhex, Friday, 13 December 2013 15:55 (twelve years ago)

Does the hunt Florida keep resetting for anyone else? Not that I'm complaining, I just bang through the trivial/easy missions again for more crystal.

bless you forks

Nhex, Friday, 13 December 2013 16:06 (twelve years ago)

The numbers are actually a little better than my gut estimates. 2* drops at 14%, 3* drops at 3%. I would've guessed worse, but after all those Modern Black Widows and Classic Hawkeyes that's all I can remember.

Amazed that nobody in that sample group got a 4* Wolverine - that was actually one of my earliest drops, though of course I never got another. Invisible Woman hasn't been out for that long.

Nhex, Friday, 13 December 2013 16:13 (twelve years ago)

i've gotten a pair of NOW magnetos recently and that was kinda awesome

Strangers look on with a discernible, barely contained ‘wow’. (forksclovetofu), Friday, 13 December 2013 16:14 (twelve years ago)

Btw, it's easy for them to add player motivation by just making more super hard PVP events and adding characters...

Puzzle & Dragons has this formula on lockdown, they can just copy them exactly for success. P&D even does cross-IP events every so often just to add more monsters (i.e. they just did a Batman: Arkham Origins event with Joker, Batman, Catwoman and Robin pets). They have probably about 1,000 monsters now - don't see Marvel having a problem coming up with an infinite slate of characters and events just on their own. But the bread and butter is the events that happen every single day, multiple intersecting tournaments lasting hours, days, or weeks, some for specific hours of the day, it's pretty nuts.

They haven't released sales numbers but it's hard for me to imagine this game hasn't lured a ton of whales already/isn't super profitable

Marvel NOW Magneto pretty underrated, I think - rarely see him in teams but his abilities are pretty nice

Nhex, Friday, 13 December 2013 16:19 (twelve years ago)

what would Pizza Dog's abilities be, beyond being adorable

SHAUN (DJP), Friday, 13 December 2013 16:19 (twelve years ago)

NOW Magneto looks a monster levelled up; as soon as i finish daken, that's where I'm going

Strangers look on with a discernible, barely contained ‘wow’. (forksclovetofu), Friday, 13 December 2013 16:20 (twelve years ago)

you guys REALLY want me to read Hawkeye don't ya. well... ok fine i'll pick up this volume 1 from the corner of my room and finally read it

Nhex, Friday, 13 December 2013 16:22 (twelve years ago)

omg dude, no lie Hawkeye is HANDS DOWN the best Marvel book right now

It's basically everything I didn't realize I wanted in a mainstream superhero comic book

SHAUN (DJP), Friday, 13 December 2013 16:26 (twelve years ago)

obviously he swipes the red/yellow tiles off the board as he steals the pizza
xp

mh, Friday, 13 December 2013 16:28 (twelve years ago)

it would be funny if they put in an animation when his HP hits zero where, instead of greying out like the other characters, he runs off with Kate Hawkeye

SHAUN (DJP), Friday, 13 December 2013 16:29 (twelve years ago)

Pizza Dog turns all red and yellow tiles on the board into pizza, eating them and regaining 29 health per tile. He eats the tiles so completely that they do not generate AP.

I've Seen rRootage (Will M.), Friday, 13 December 2013 16:33 (twelve years ago)

Looking at that workbook again, just noticed they had extra sheets for the other types of tokens, nice. Sad LOL at Hunt Heroic tokens with Thor 44.5% drop rate.

Nhex, Friday, 13 December 2013 16:46 (twelve years ago)

my hunt heroic drops have all been hawkeye & thor, ugh

Euler, Friday, 13 December 2013 17:07 (twelve years ago)

Gods I woke up 2 hours early today because I was thinking about this game.

Matt Groening's Cousin (Leee), Friday, 13 December 2013 17:44 (twelve years ago)

Misc
- Fixed another occurrence of Events appearing greyed out when they should be active
- Ability UI sounds when full are now 100% less ear shattering
