there are lots of things happening. i feel like the game is yelling at me. something about the punisher? and then assembling the dark avengers?

Biggest thing holding me back right now is the lack of hero points. There just aren't enough to get all the covers that I need.

adam, just keep playing the early levels until you can beat some more levels, then keep beating those multiple times.

i tank in all lightning rounds now. win one, then play with weak characters and resign right away. can't tell but i think it helps get me weaker opponents in the serious tourneys.

i've never gotten above 200th place in a lightning round - competition's too brutal. any success?

actually, i think the trick is that you play any round - whether you win/lose - with scrub characters, you get matched with other scrub teams and then you can kick their ass when you retaliate. so it's best to start out with your weakest teams and steadily use your stronger ones only if you have to

Grr!! I had time for a handful of games tonight so I tried for some covers and hero points. Guess what i was rewarded with instead.

Otoh, I did stage a 1 vs. 2 bad guy battle in which I came from behind top win with an unleveled Dark Hawk that had no use for AP.

Hmm. I got 2 extra red Wolverine (Astonishing X-Men cards) from the Bad is Good tourney. My Wolvie is currently 5/3/2 (G/R/Y). Seems like the Yellow (Healing Factor) ability is the best one to have, Green is maxed out (Feral Claw). Should I listen to my gut and sell off the two Red cards I have and hope I'll draw three Yellows in the future? Or is just foolishness... is the Red ability worth leveling up to 5?

Personally I like having the red at five, I am hoping to go 5/5/3. I feel that the healing works often enough, and if you're not counting on getting every yellow tile for some other reason, you can just avoid breaking them and heal. The cost/effect of the red attack tho (at stage 5 and level 50, i think it's 12 tiles for 1400 damage, plus any damage you gain from your feral claws on the way) is pretty great.

Typically on the forum tho people say it's best to roll 5/3/5, which I get. TBH I probably went 5 red because I got them first. But I don't feel like I've "ruined" the card by any stretch, the minmaxing on individual skills doesn't seem to make a HUGE difference in most matches. HP and damage are really key aside from a few covers (eg. Storm 1, Storm 2, etc).

I tihnk my wolvie is at 4/5/2 at the moment and I am not terribly disappointed with his lack of healing ability.

You're probably right about the ability balance. Though, I would be REALLY bitter if my maxed out Classic Storm had maxed Yellow (Passive counter) vs. Blue (Stun), especially after the nerf to the counter ability. The Red attack sounds better than I initially thought, though. I have a week to waffle on this decision.

Note on Yellow: My bigs right now are Iron Man Classic 40 and Thor, both which have key Yellow abilities, but Wolvie will make my B or C team anyway.

I've been leery of not using covers for characters I like; I have Thor at 5 green covers and at level cap, but I'd have liked to have yellow at 5 instead. but I got the green drop first. it's changed the way I play a bit but I like that, a serendipitous way to try a different way of bashing Hammer peons

I'm at 2-4-4 on Wolvie. I don't use the red power much because I'm usually using Thor also with him and Thor's red bash is the sauce, especially buffed

here's how OP modern Hawkeye is in The Hunt:

I was playing the penultimate Alaska* fight with the lvl 136 Pyro and lvl 97 Daken and got enough red and blue matches to set Hawk's red and blue countdown tiles. While they went off, I used is purple and blue match strength to down the Pyro; the turn after the Pyro went down, both countdowns went off and 1-shotted the rest of the team, including the lvl 97 Daken.

I love this character in this event and I will be very sad when it ends. Also for the love of god someone give me an Invisible Woman card.

I just got modern Hawkeye and he seems awesome. Plus, I can only hope for Pizza Dog

I keep getting my ass beat hardcore by Daken, every time. Need to figure out what is up with that.

my maxed thor is 3 on red and my classic storm 3 on green. regret both -- the classic storm more.

i'm all about critical tiles in the hunt. match em with purple or blue hawkeye and i can do 2700 damage. a few of those and i can take down an entire team.

this is why I love the crit tile board so much; if you can get a crit off an environmental tile match, you can spam the board with crit tiles and wipe a team out in one turn

Reached the final reward level of The Hunt (30,000 pts) to get that Iron Man Model 40 Red card.

Eh actually doing decent in this bad is good thing. Bullseye protect tiles, and my jacked up venom, and rag make it pretty easy so far.

We're all in an abusive relationship.

Most of this is old news for a lot of you but i actually learned a thing or two:

Environmental Tiles
These are the tiles that aren't a solid color and have some design on them that goes with the background behind the characters.
The number of AP generated by matching them is determined by the highest environmental damage - if your highest character is 4, then a 3 match gives you 12 environmental AP (EP?)
Critical tiles multiply the number of tiles you receive. If your crit is 3x and your environmental number is 4, a 2 tile, 1 crit match would yield (4 + 4) * 3 = 24 environmental AP
They aren't randomly chosen, in a given PvP or PvE event, the same missions or sections of the room always have the same tiles. Standard PvP, the top is the computer room, the left is the forest and the right is the city
The max number of environmental AP you can have is 400

Covers
Covers are needed to raise your character's level
The max covers you can apply to any one color of a character is 5
If a character has 2 color abilities, you can max both of them out - 10 covers or 5/5
If a character has 3 color abilities, you can only apply 13 covers yielding 5/5/3 or 5/4/4 in your chosen combination
Once you find/win a cover you can use HP to increase that color or wait until you find/win more

Matching
Matching 4 or more tiles in a row/column will destroy all of the tiles in that row/column
Matching 5 or more tiles in any shape (T, L, +) will yield a critical tile and give you an extra turn

Should I continue to hammer on one mission in the vain hopes of grilling hero points, or should I move on top new missions?
