just started but this is a lovingly crafted Final Fantasy / RPG Maker pastiche that promises 30 hours of play for a buck. it's fun.

P&D is sooooooo, sooooooo addictive

Nhex, Sunday, 20 October 2013 22:37 (twelve years ago)

but isn't it some candy crush must spend real ca$h to progress bullshit?

Euler, Sunday, 20 October 2013 22:42 (twelve years ago)

nah, it's a lot better IMO; i haven't paid a dime. they're also fairly generous with their IAP currency (Magic Stones), usually running events that give you a free stone everyday - just don't waste them on recharging your energy, only use them for the "rare egg machine" during special events. basically, if you're patient and cleverly manage your time (you get a free energy refill when you hit a new experience level) it's very doable

i went back to play Candy Crush afterwards and it just feels like a dog; marvel PQ is a step over CC but not the fine-tuned machine that P&D is, yet

Nhex, Sunday, 20 October 2013 23:17 (twelve years ago)

why can't i find puzzle & dragons?

obi wankin' obi (Autumn Almanac), Sunday, 20 October 2013 23:29 (twelve years ago)

It's only in the Japanese and US stores.

stet, Monday, 21 October 2013 00:02 (twelve years ago)

obi wankin' obi (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 21 October 2013 00:17 (twelve years ago)

this is why piracy etc etc

obi wankin' obi (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 21 October 2013 00:18 (twelve years ago)

Oh wait, it's just been released in the UK. Magic.

stet, Monday, 21 October 2013 00:23 (twelve years ago)

sigh

obi wankin' obi (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 21 October 2013 00:38 (twelve years ago)

Don't really understand the complaints about Candy Crush. There's absolutely no need to spend anything to get to the last level.

tsrobodo, Monday, 21 October 2013 17:12 (twelve years ago)

six hours into "doom and destiny" i am ready to sing its praises to all of you
this is a full fledged, worthwhile Final Fantasy/Dragon Warrior style RPG with a sophomoric but very serviceable sense of humor (the sleep spell is called "nighty night asshole"), surprising depth, heavy customization, easy to play and control on iphone (also on android) and only a buck. if you have a passing interest in RPGs this is a no-brainer, go get it.

i am 3 hours in, similarly impressed

reckless woo (Z S), Thursday, 24 October 2013 00:41 (twelve years ago)

i'm swayed - might wait for it to hit Steam though. i voted to greenlight it

Mordy , Friday, 25 October 2013 00:59 (twelve years ago)

^^^This. You're doing it wrong if you're spending $$$.

do you like euros? it's a pretty pure euro. very different from catan (for the better) imho. i dig it.

socki (s1ocki), Friday, 25 October 2013 03:30 (twelve years ago)

i do like euros but generally in person more than on iDevice eg ticket to ride, catan, dominion - no experience yet in either medium w/ puerto rico, power grid or carcassone

lol

Nhex, Monday, 28 October 2013 15:33 (twelve years ago)

spaceteam is free and amazing (requires 2-4 players) - i really can't overstate how much fun it is

Mordy , Wednesday, 30 October 2013 04:05 (twelve years ago)

they've made some fast major updates to Marvel Puzzle Quest, it's definitely easier, more grindable, more fun now

Nhex, Friday, 1 November 2013 15:54 (twelve years ago)

yeah that game is really really good, all I've played lately. first f2p game I've been tempted to spend real money on (doubt I'll give in but I can see the appeal)

Euler, Friday, 1 November 2013 20:46 (twelve years ago)

to boost your collection space, right? too many covers!

Mordy , Friday, 1 November 2013 21:11 (twelve years ago)

Spaceteam looks rad.

schwantz, Friday, 1 November 2013 21:21 (twelve years ago)

yes, though I've kept up ok with the money the game gives, have nine spots now and just plow covers into upgrades. but I have to leave one slot open to upgrade. ugh.

also though I have a bunch of characters that I could level way up but I don't have enough of the purple money to level. neeeeeeeed moooooore

Euler, Friday, 1 November 2013 21:22 (twelve years ago)

xp

Euler, Friday, 1 November 2013 21:22 (twelve years ago)

spaceteam is so rad. really. maybe game of the year.

Mordy , Friday, 1 November 2013 21:23 (twelve years ago)

I'm psyched to try it out with my kids tonight. I have a couple of Kindle Fires around (from my old job) and some iPhones. I hope they all work together...

schwantz, Friday, 1 November 2013 21:29 (twelve years ago)

i'm at 16 card slots in MPQ and it's getting REALLY tempting to buy in, but i shall resist. i do wish it were as generous as P&D, but it's getting there with the daily bonus + constant tourneys, analogous to the daily/limited dungeons in P&D

the decision of where to sell your cards is agonizing, not gonna lie

mordy: that game does sound pretty fun but i assume you need to get at least 3 people to play with you?

Nhex, Saturday, 2 November 2013 05:57 (twelve years ago)

2-4 players; it was plenty fun with just. 3.

Mordy , Saturday, 2 November 2013 12:47 (twelve years ago)

tourneys in mpq are key: pretty doable to feed on smaller players and get some nice goodies. got a level 16 Doctor Doom yesterday! sold my level 17 classic Hawkeye to fit him, but Hawkeye kinda sucks. Iron Man on the other hand...

Wolverine is so far disappointingly lame. but I've gotten no upgrades for him yet. game just keeps throwing Hawkeye & Storm covers at me, and neither is great; well, maybe the *other* Storm is great, but the one I leveled up to 6 is pretty lame and I'm probably gonna sell her.

Euler, Saturday, 2 November 2013 12:53 (twelve years ago)

classic storm is good bc of elemental barrier

Mordy , Saturday, 2 November 2013 13:09 (twelve years ago)

i kept common hawkeye and storm because their skills are really useful - it's too bad they'll always stay weak damage wise, but fully lvled up they'll be good third-slotters

Nhex, Saturday, 2 November 2013 16:07 (twelve years ago)

and yeah, i love elemental barrier on Portacio Storm

Nhex, Saturday, 2 November 2013 16:07 (twelve years ago)

i wish i wasn't playing this enough that i was into this discussion but i have put in HOURS on this fuckin thing
i wam waking up matching 4 block lines. Fuck you puzzlequest and your goddamn pusherman skills

there's no camera to capture that yelping moment! (forksclovetofu), Saturday, 2 November 2013 17:02 (twelve years ago)

lol

Nhex, Saturday, 2 November 2013 17:04 (twelve years ago)

half woken brain saying "i'll get up as soon as i can match five blue gems" and i can't even realize I AM NOT PLAYING

there's no camera to capture that yelping moment! (forksclovetofu), Saturday, 2 November 2013 17:26 (twelve years ago)

I've had that feeling with various games before, it's disturbing

i too went to college (silby), Sunday, 3 November 2013 18:13 (twelve years ago)

i had forgotten just how addictive the puzzlequest dynamic is... giving the constant sugar-drip of character building and the lolnerd Marvel Universe connections, this is genuinely dangerous stuff. I've taken to playing "until I kill all the characters" and that's taking about two and a half hours a go now

there's no camera to capture that yelping moment! (forksclovetofu), Sunday, 3 November 2013 19:10 (twelve years ago)

Anyone else get sucked into Strata?

Elvis Telecom, Wednesday, 6 November 2013 07:41 (twelve years ago)

oh man a well leveled thor is fearsome in mavel pq.

lollercoaster of rove (s.clover), Tuesday, 12 November 2013 19:59 (twelve years ago)

especially with the tourney boost

Nhex, Tuesday, 12 November 2013 20:32 (twelve years ago)

my Thor is p decent but other players in the tourney have like level 46 Thors and it's not pretty

by contrast I did pretty well in the Iron Man tourney, well enough to get a model 40...which is great except I think upgrades and thus levels are gonna be rare. right now I have terrific regular Iron Man & Wolvie, great Juggernaut and Thor, decent Black Widow...and then a bunch of 3 & 2 star "uncommon" & "rare" cards that don't pop enough to get levels. should kept all those Storms I got originally, didn't realize that was gonna be the only way to get a high level character (sold them to make space for e.g. level 15 Doctor Doom, the Hood, Magneto)

Euler, Tuesday, 12 November 2013 20:36 (twelve years ago)

basically i fret over which is the uncommon (2*) cards I wanna drop. the rare 3* characters are awesome but will i ever boost to be really usable? i don't know. at least the 2* cards will appear regularly enough, but every time I get a duplicate card that I threw out a while back I cringe.

Modern Wolverine (2*) isn't that good, for example, but you can get a ton of those cards through the single player missions, so I guess I'm hanging onto him. X Force Wolverine (3*) is awesome, but I don't know if I'll ever get another, like you say

Those Level 15 guys (3*) are pretty good in one-offs but my buffed up Lv. 18 common Venom is far more useful in general

Nhex, Tuesday, 12 November 2013 20:43 (twelve years ago)

both Storms totally worth keeping btw. if you're talking about the common Modern Storm it'll pop up a million times over

Nhex, Tuesday, 12 November 2013 20:44 (twelve years ago)

I got sucked into Real Racing 3. Anyone else feeling it? The AC Cobra has been such a $/gold pit for me... And now today they put it on sale for 50% off. Ugh!

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Tuesday, 12 November 2013 20:46 (twelve years ago)

the regular 2 star Wolvie is great, though; have him at level 30, heals like 70 a turn. can get taken out by a series of huge hits (fuck Juggernaut forever unless he's on my side) but o/w he's serious business
