Ha, apartments online are pretty cool. You can watch all the other players on Tv. One guy was getting chased by the cops in freemode. Another guy was in a death match, hiding in an alley.

Weird that people are fixating on that one crate mission thing, when it was over in about three minutes and I would have completely forgot about it if it wasn't for everyone on here banging on about it constantly.

it didn't bother me until my game froze in the middle and i had to restart the entire thing
― Mordy , Friday, 18 October 2013 15:43 (ten years ago) link
it's partly because it amuses me how this billion dollar game with so much time and energy spent on it, probably the pinnacle of videogames making to date, has a mission that's so utterly shit. also it sums up a lot of what's bad about gta5 - sticking tedious shit in for the sake of the bloated 'story', boring, unnecessary, etc.
and like i said above, when it started up i was grinding my teeth appalled at what i was being asked to do, skimmed the instructions, rushed it and ended up spending 20 mins+ redoing it it and by jove with god as my witness that gives me the right to whinge about it on the internet

yeah, getting the google finance api thing to work for something whose prices are completely artificial is some funny shit.
apparently the in-game graphs are totally divorced from displayed price. completely meaningless.
― goole, Friday, 18 October 2013 21:31 (ten years ago) link
the overall crate mission was a quite long and boring possibly deliberately so it's still an amazing game but that mission was definitely principally boring enough that it is natural that some people have remarked on it
like it was quite funny how long and boring it was but it was still long and boring, it was like the middle bit of a stewart lee bit but for videogames
― random accies memories (Sgt. Biscuits), Friday, 18 October 2013 21:39 (ten years ago) link
It wasn't that long!
― pplains, Friday, 18 October 2013 21:47 (ten years ago) link
obviously meant to be some 'atmospheric' busywork while trevor grills that weakling dude about the port. which is only entertaining if that v/o is hilaaarious and it's not really.
it could have been a minigame where you slap that guy around or like shoot valuables in his house to get him to talk about his job. just imagine.
― goole, Friday, 18 October 2013 21:47 (ten years ago) link
many many xposts, but...
Honestly for me the one crate mission thing really is just the exclamation point on the worst movement of the entire game mechanics wise and especially plotwise. Pretty much everything from when Trevor arrives in Los Santos and meets the cousin Floyd until that plotline kinda wraps up is just stupid and shitty. I think this is when I took the biggest break from the game too (there was a solid 1-2 weeks I let the game 'cool off' before picking it up and finishing it). Everything that was wrong with every other GTA game since 3 was on display with any mission involving Floyd. The torture scene and every Floyd mission. Just unempathetic, poorly-planned, poorly-written, poorly-implemented garbage.

i was expecting some violence to break out where i had to mash one of those containers into a bunch of dudes or something, but, nope.
― goole, Friday, 18 October 2013 21:49 (ten years ago) link
To be honest, that's where I'm at right now in the game. Just got done with the docks. Still got that paparazzi guy on Franklin's map. Would just as soon go on a 10-wave hillbilly killin' mission online.
― pplains, Friday, 18 October 2013 21:50 (ten years ago) link
yeah the pap missions are the worst imo... also the minute men ones later in the game
― J0rdan S., Friday, 18 October 2013 21:50 (ten years ago) link
there wasn't even the joke of you getting some inflated union paycheck for 25 mins work, which i was also kind of expecting
xps
yeah the use of trevor's homicidal psychosis for plot purposes is really lazy. but you know, 'satire' right.
― goole, Friday, 18 October 2013 21:52 (ten years ago) link
At least Minutemen and Paparazzi you can do one mission here and there while progressing with the rest of the game. The Floyd section is necessary to continue playing. And it is maybe the utter nadir of Rockstar's work. Worse than Brucie Kibbutz parts of GTA IV.

what about the car-towing ones... is there any reason why i would want to do those

so when you get the army helicopter, you'll know how to do this:

oh god the car towing missions, this game really is jampacked with anti-fun (every time i have to dick around with the phone or go on the internet i die a bit inside). and like will. m so perfectly put, a huge % of the writing is just pissweak unamusing crap. but at the same time i know it's not a 'bad game' as such, they've just gone overboard - around a third of it should be edited out to leave a slick great game.
also worth noting - that incredible feeling of disappointment when you complete some epic mission to the best of your abilities and it flashes up with 'bronze' and a bunch of unticked boxes. superfun!

one of the things i just dont understand is "exiting" a web page and having to go back through a bunch of unloaded pages, why add that extra time waste to an already huge game

here's a question
i feel like i'm fairly into the game—i've been playing basically any quests i can get my hands, bunch of the "good" side stuff but not thaaaat much "random dudes" stuff (cuz it's usually pretty boring). the last thing that happened was trevor kidnapped the guy's wife.
but i've only done ONE heist where i actually had to do the whole "choose who you hire" thing. when i first did that, and it feels like a while back, i got the sense that this was gonna be a big part of this game, but it just hasn't come back up. even the last bunch of heist type missions (submarine etc) haven't invoked that mechanic. was that just a misleading on the designers' behalf or does it really come back in a big way?

― socki (s1ocki), Saturday, 19 October 2013 22:48 (ten years ago) link
There's a good 3 or 4 missions where you have to make those choices iirc
― Third Rate Zoo Keepers With Tenth Rate Minds (Windsor Davies), Saturday, 19 October 2013 23:04 (ten years ago) link
4, I think, yeah. Lots of build-up to them, too-- steal this, collect that. I mean, I get that some people are like "man this crates mission is boring" but I far preferred the variety in scale and intensity of the missions to the $1-$10-$100-$1000-$10000-$100000 style of the previous games.
