nice video. Just kind of proves that cars can't break in two. I have a feeling anything you put in the tunnel will just get pushed out the other end.

i cant go online (might do if it/when it goes cheap for ps3) but could you feasibly arrange a gang of mates to go round fetching cars and sticking them in the opening for the tunnel? completely fill it with cars and remote bombs and then stand back and wait. i'd love to see that. see how much it takes to derail that damn train - should hopefully be a knock-on effect and all subsequent trains will be blitzed too

thinking too much about this

NI, Monday, 7 October 2013 20:58 (twelve years ago)

Isn't GTA Online free?

pplains, Monday, 7 October 2013 21:25 (twelve years ago)

Definitely getting what you pay for lately.

pplains, Monday, 7 October 2013 21:26 (twelve years ago)

It's a free add-on to a game you paid $60 bucks for, so it's not free-free.

I haven't played the story mode since online launched.

polyphonic, Monday, 7 October 2013 21:35 (twelve years ago)

I've been online exactly once. I think my ranking is 4. Thanks Obama Rockstar cloud servers.

pplains, Monday, 7 October 2013 21:40 (twelve years ago)

Day 1 was the only day I've had any issues

polyphonic, Monday, 7 October 2013 21:57 (twelve years ago)

NI, there is the option of cheat spawning in vehicles

prop forward turned celebrity chef (Ste), Tuesday, 8 October 2013 00:05 (twelve years ago)

ste, what's that? you mean you can stand in a tunnel and make a hundred cars pile up? i'd do this myself in story mode but i know some pro gta5 guy can make a much better video (the one linked above with the guy driving over mountains lobbing bombs at helicopters was superb, much better than a 'video of a guy playing a game' has any right to be)

(i can't play this on my xbox because my xbox is, uh, not able to go online so im gona hang on for like 18 months til its cheap 2nd hand for ps3 and play it online on that)

but yeah, more videos of mad shit please!

NI, Tuesday, 8 October 2013 00:48 (twelve years ago)

flight school :(

specifically the land on a moving vehicle thing. i need to do that really?

socki (s1ocki), Tuesday, 8 October 2013 04:28 (twelve years ago)

i played this for hours today and all i did was moving shipping crates around with a truck and go to dumb flight school

honestly so much of this game seems to be make-work to draw out the playing time. i find it grim

socki (s1ocki), Tuesday, 8 October 2013 04:28 (twelve years ago)

the crates/flight school period is the last uneventful but before the game gets really good imo

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 8 October 2013 05:07 (twelve years ago)

but then again i thought flight school was kind of a blast

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 8 October 2013 05:07 (twelve years ago)

uneventful bit*

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 8 October 2013 05:07 (twelve years ago)

skydiving on the truck wasn't as hard as landing on the highway bridge. that's one of those i hit silver on the first try and then couldn't even complete again.

goole, Tuesday, 8 October 2013 12:52 (twelve years ago)

I barrelled through the story without getting sidetracked and I regret not letting the world ~unfold~. I own some nice cars and I drive them around. Any recommended side-missions? Right now I'm Trevor chasing down celebrities for knick-knacks and taking poor souls up north if you know what I mean

you and me against the board (flamboyant goon tie included), Tuesday, 8 October 2013 13:48 (twelve years ago)

Recommend doing the drug drop stuff at Trevs airfield.

keep doing the 'taking poor souls' stuff

do all the random encounters, there's some really interesting ones amongst the mundane 'bring back a stolen vehicle' ones.

have you browsed the epsilon web site yet? As Michael if you go onto their site it starts some missions.

The hunting was more interesting that I expected, well it was at least better than the Cletus initiation.

buy the property, they will give you missions. Yeah mostly samey delivery stuff but if you just like being kept busy

goole, yeah that landing on a bridge was brutal for me too. I just kept repeating it (which felt like forever) until I lucked out with a gold.
Still haven't returned to retry those chopper time races though, eurgh.

prop forward turned celebrity chef (Ste), Tuesday, 8 October 2013 14:02 (twelve years ago)

and those parachute jumps are pretty good, but landing is a fucking nightmare for me.

prop forward turned celebrity chef (Ste), Tuesday, 8 October 2013 14:05 (twelve years ago)

flying is impossible out of first-person view

goole, Tuesday, 8 October 2013 14:05 (twelve years ago)

And I purchased the hangar and now it lets me into the airport without cops all over my ass. Which is cool and one thing I hated about IV.

prop forward turned celebrity chef (Ste), Tuesday, 8 October 2013 14:06 (twelve years ago)

I like the nice touch that you can still see the other characters wandering about the game.

prop forward turned celebrity chef (Ste), Tuesday, 8 October 2013 14:12 (twelve years ago)

flying is impossible out of first-person view

I'm not too bad in third person, but with some of the combat jets and choppers they have a decent HUD.

one trevor mission had me flying out over the sea at night in the rain. Just could not see the horizon or how far the sea was, unless lightening flashed. Very cool.

prop forward turned celebrity chef (Ste), Tuesday, 8 October 2013 14:15 (twelve years ago)

I did a couple Epsilon missions but the "bring us these cars!" mission is not my idea of fun. Will definitely do flight school and parachuting missions tho

you and me against the board (flamboyant goon tie included), Tuesday, 8 October 2013 14:45 (twelve years ago)

I spent two hours online last night, working to get my ranking up from 5 to 7.

There's such a different vibe to it. I got spawned outside of the laboratories northeast of town in the desert. As I was running up the road looking for a car, I could hear the gamers on their head sets and thought, I could be shot by a sniper at any moment!

pplains, Tuesday, 8 October 2013 14:49 (twelve years ago)

how does it compare to

adam, Tuesday, 8 October 2013 14:50 (twelve years ago)

the thing about the parachute mission is that you can barely see the target on account of the big ol parachute

socki (s1ocki), Tuesday, 8 October 2013 15:12 (twelve years ago)

On level 15 of online I finally unlocked Survival modes, which are basically horde modes (my favorite kind of multiplayer mode). One thing that's interesting about the online is that so much of it stuff is initially hidden from you until you unlock it. Also I like that you can bookmark particular levels/missions that you like and make playlists of them.

Last night I found myself in a group with some dudes who had maybe hacked the game or something... we kept doing this easy mission over and over again and it was worth 9k each time. But then some guy started observing us and suddenly we couldn't restart it anymore. Bummer. But I made a lot of quick cash!

polyphonic, Tuesday, 8 October 2013 17:48 (twelve years ago)

lmao adam

not sure if this is an obvious #protip, but doing the stunt jumps with Franklin's special skill makes a huge difference.

BRAINSTORM:

can you double up your insider trading take on the assassination missions? ie you ride the competitor stock up to its scripted amount of +50% THEN buy up the damaged stock at its scripted bottom and wait for it to come back to average (does this even happen?)

how do ppl play this game?

i mean, do you concentrate on story missions? go looking for side quests? or just run around acting crazy?

i never really feel the urge to dive into the like, game's internet

socki (s1ocki), Wednesday, 16 October 2013 16:43 (twelve years ago)

i follow the story and do some of the more ridiculous side things when they pop up

i also spend a lot of time stealing planes and shooting people with a sniper rifle

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 16 October 2013 16:45 (twelve years ago)

Almost like life, missions are like chores I gotta do to earn money when I'd rather be just driving around town. "I guess I'll go over and see what this is all about."

Like I said above, I've been online mostly lately. You have to earn money through missions and races just to get things like ammunition or even a place to park your car. And right now, I'm driving something that looks like an orange Dodge Neon with no garage. The initiative to win missions and make rank is much more prevalent.

And just having other players involved makes it more interesting. The other night, I was landing the chopper, robbing the convenience store, taking the chopper out over the water to escape the cops, etc. repeat. There were a dozen or so other guys chattering and shooting each other across town, but I was ignoring them, working solo.

So I'm robbing this store clerk, right? Got the shotgun aimed right at him and he's emptying the register. I hear one of the other players say, hold up, there's a helicopter here. I think someone's in there. Dude comes in with his little cowboy hat on and stands right in front of the counter. I don't have a mic, so I can't ask him what he's up to. So I just assume the worst, that he's going to steal my money and helicopter. With that, I turn the shotgun and blow him back out the door. Everyone chattering goes nuts. I JUST GOT SHOT! WHO WAS THAT?

Anyway. Outside of my family and co-workers, that's how I've been interacting in real time with the rest of the world lately.

pplains, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 16:56 (twelve years ago)

i generally do all the side shit and exploration i can until i run out of stuff, then push the story forward. but that's generally how i play all sandbox games.

the story missions in this are really good tho (generally)

some of this game is a little boring but i've found switching characters alleviates that a lot.
