This looks like it's going to suck, but still.

man i love usagi but i don't need him in a hack n slash game
at least the art is reasonably true to sakai

Even by Zales standards, that's sad. (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 20 February 2013 21:55 (thirteen years ago)

The art made me watch the trailer twice. Gameplay looks asstastic.

Spooky 2D/3D adventure game Year Walk, based on Swedish folklore, came out this week. I'm liking the Contre Jour aesthetics.

Oops. Wrong trailer. Not many games come out with a free companion app.

Just got satirical games industry commentary/non-game Little Inferno just because I loved World of Goo so much.

Why is this Simpsons thing so compelling? Also I'm envious of all you town planners. Interestingly enough I suspect you could ditch roads and save a bit of money. An experiment for the next few days.

hyggeligt, Tuesday, 26 February 2013 23:05 (thirteen years ago)

I am kinda bored of it to be honest. Pixel People on the other hand has taken over my life.

Fucking New Star Soccer is going to cause me either to: get fired, get dumped, or both.

Pro tip on Simpsons roads - they work great to tunnel all your wandering peeps to an easy touch screen point, other than that they're useless.

Hi s1ocks!

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Wednesday, 27 February 2013 05:08 (thirteen years ago)

I download the Simpsons one, and I'm still playing it, but in kind of a desultory fashion. It's just not that interesting. Pixel People is great, though.

Quick review: Infinity Blade is juddering a lot but alright for quick games. Dodge is frustrating.

hyggeligt, Wednesday, 27 February 2013 18:59 (thirteen years ago)

IMO the time investment in the Simpsons game is low enough that you should totally play at least through level 11-12 so you can watch Mr Burns walk his dogs

Hi s1ocks!

Good tip and put into practice. How did you get all those fancy buildings? Did you spend real $$$?

hyggeligt, Wednesday, 27 February 2013 21:47 (thirteen years ago)

no, they become accessible over time - i havent done any of the premium shit, but i keep an eye on stuff that unlocks but isnt quest related and grab it when im sitting on a large enough pile of cash. pro tip - the news building is a cash/xp farm, so remember to click it and start broadcasts for $$$

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Wednesday, 27 February 2013 23:03 (thirteen years ago)

oh yeah also, unless you spend many of your waking hours checking on the thing, look for buildings that accrue larger cash/xp over a longer period of time, stuff that refreshes $3 every 5 minutes is pretty much useless once you get further in.

2.004 billions in supermamc, rank 12017, 5m58seconds

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 28 February 2013 22:25 (thirteen years ago)

do you dudes ever do the orient express? seems kinda useless to me

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 28 February 2013 22:26 (thirteen years ago)

only for the event - the cost seems way too high for the gamble benefit

(not posting my score until i've bought all the hats)

Nhex, Thursday, 28 February 2013 22:30 (thirteen years ago)

What do the hats do?

My high is like 2.1 billion. It's weird I'll play a game and think I'm doing good and only end up scoring like 200 million. Then out of no where I'll hit a billion even though I think I'm not playing particularly well.

Jeff, Thursday, 28 February 2013 22:44 (thirteen years ago)

year walk is indeed amazing

Tioc Norris (LocalGarda), Thursday, 28 February 2013 22:47 (thirteen years ago)

Passed 6bn just now and not even sure how it happened, I was absent mindedly flicking around while thinking about something else entirely then hey presto.

JimD, Thursday, 28 February 2013 23:47 (thirteen years ago)

ok i think this is starting to click - 2.456 billion, rank 10029

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Friday, 1 March 2013 01:05 (thirteen years ago)

This would be much more enjoyable and less stressful on an iPad I imagine

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Friday, 1 March 2013 01:45 (thirteen years ago)

Puzzle Craft got updated recently, they added new buildings and such. I forgot how much of a battery drain that game was...

Nhex, Friday, 1 March 2013 02:10 (thirteen years ago)

The hats boost your starting multiplier, I suggest grabbing them.

I only ever do the Orient Express if I've stockpiled gold (20K+) and I feel like concentrating on an extended game; I then do peace + slow chain + double boost and pump upgraded condos into blue at the beginning as quickly as possible, hoping to get my multiplier over 200 right away. After that, it's just a balancing act of activating blue to extend time and boost multipliers, switching to green to get to megazone faster and trying to activate yellow before actually entering megazone (with a good multiplier, say 300+, you can get 3 billion points right there). Orient Express is a good way to game for a high score with this strategy because the multipliers increase faster.

my super interesting Kant story (DJP), Friday, 1 March 2013 04:17 (thirteen years ago)

I suck at extending time with blue. It never seems to amount to anything.

Jeff, Friday, 1 March 2013 04:42 (thirteen years ago)

The thing that seems to do nothing for me is the match time extension boost, but iirc it is a key aspect of djp strategy and he has like 1000 billion more points than me so I am obv doing it wrong.

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Friday, 1 March 2013 05:08 (thirteen years ago)

I'm worried I'm burning out on this game, because up until now my scores have been improving as my understanding improves, and that's fun and interesting. But now I feel like my understanding is maxed out and it's just my clumsy fat fucking fingers that are limiting my scoring.

JimD, Friday, 1 March 2013 12:10 (thirteen years ago)

(although I'm still not entirely clear on how I activate a power for megazone, whenever I get in there it seems like everything pauses for a second or two, during which I can't feed anything to anyone, and by the time that's passed the monsters have vanished).

JimD, Friday, 1 March 2013 12:27 (thirteen years ago)

Right, having the yellow bro out there and the timing of feeding him a condo before mega is tricky.

Jeff, Friday, 1 March 2013 12:34 (thirteen years ago)

Do other powers work during megazone though, or just yellow? Because I'm SURE I've gone in with green active without it having any effect...

JimD, Friday, 1 March 2013 12:38 (thirteen years ago)

just yellow AFAICT, although you might be able to have your first match with blue count as well (but it wouldn't matter unless you have clocks/pigs/multipliers in your match)

btw my go-to boosts are peace, slow chain and double pink; I only used match extension early on

the easy grindy way to stockpile money is to just play a bunch of games using peace only

my super interesting Kant story (DJP), Friday, 1 March 2013 14:46 (thirteen years ago)

polymer is free right now. i've been meaning to get it. only a few games in its nice feeling how i was totally helpless the first few and am gradually developing the ability to actually plan ahead and execute strategies, etc.

s.clover, Saturday, 2 March 2013 00:22 (thirteen years ago)

want to stress again how much fun i'm having with sword and poker. It's a match 3 game with a twist: instead of jewels it's cards and you're matching for pairs, three of a kind, flush, straights, full house, etc. add a persistent RPG dungeoncrawl shell with level up weapon, health, shield and magic and this shit is golden. highly recommended; I need to get the sequel.

Also just picked up "heavy mach: defense" which looks interesting

forks is lucky he didn't get stabbed over a marilyn monroe cd (forksclovetofu), Saturday, 2 March 2013 04:03 (thirteen years ago)

Year walk is frustrating. Memorising sequences and revisiting old areas of the map to see if anything's changed are the dudliest of dud game mechanics.
