Finally got hexagon on the 2nd stage, can barely get to triangle on the 3rd.

The moment around 12 seconds of the 3rd stage when the spinning board suddenly spins even faster for half a second and then jerks to a near stop is such a beautiful fuck you.

I've been playing this. Pretty good! Nintendo-style side-scrolling brawler with good play action and a surprisingly good sense of humor. Changes enough to keep it interesting (the boards/levels are never exactly the same twice)although as I've gotten further along the "quests" have taken me longer to achieve, especially the ones where you have to do x y's in a single game. I've been trying to knock down 15 torches in a game for days, best I've done is 11.

15 torches was a tough one. I'm stuck getting a 100 hit combo and 200 kills in one game.

anyone here play the board game PUERTO RICO? (mordy, i feel like you might?)

got the official ipad version, which is pretty faithful, but it's hard to find other players. anyone up for it?

don't forget you can bypass the quests for 1000PP if you want to, i think i did that for the 200-hit combo one
for the torch one, i recommend Power Slam, you can uppercut/slam (2 hits) torches with the right spacing

you don't even need the power-up, but it gives a wider AOE

what's the deal with the hats? are they really just for show?

yup.

you buy them so that if the person next to you on the bus happens to be familiar with the game, he'll see your hat and think "wow, that guy got a new hat". other than that, totally pointless.

Bypassing quests isn't my style.

i haven't played it, but i remember being interested when it was mentioned on the board games thread but those euro board games are expensive!

I bought the board game, popped out all 7,000 pieces and lost the will to play. It looked too convoluted.

Oh hey I figured out a trick for punch quest -- apparently difficulty increases with your score (within a single game, I mean). So to complete the torch quest, I just did my best to avoid enemies and focus on torches -- I jumped over as many as possible, tried not to get combos, etc. That made it much easier to hit the torches.

you know what, the game isn't too fiddly, it takes like five minutes to set up and then you're off! i prefer it IRL because you don't have to wait for people to make their moves, plus playing with friends is fun.

it's a great game. a really... "pure" game, if that makes any sense. there's not that much randomness. and the basic game mechanic is quite innovative and neat.

and i bought my copy for $30!

anyway, i recommend both the board game and the ipad version. though i worry that if you haven't played the board game, the ipad version might be hard to approach.

are we allowed to talk about other board games here or should i take it to the other thread?

I bought Puerto Rico on the ipad a long time ago but still haven't played; gonna give it a try!

Not just me then. Good work molyneux! There were interviews a few weeks ago where he's was saying "imagine a billion people all playing the same game at once" at the same time he was saying "actually if 500,000 people sign up on day one we're screwed". So here we are on day one and it goes "hey, you the 34,531st player.....connection error".

ugh now I have the punch quest "101% punch accuracy" quest. I've gotten 100%, how does one get 101%?

certain skills allow you to hit more than one monster with one punch

though i'm not sure you need to use them, i think with some timing you can hit two zombies at once

so yeah, punch quest -- still pretty awesome but I'm starting to feel like I've exhausted it -- have all the special moves, all the power skills, all the upgrades, got an "ultra hat" (which doesn't actually do anything, although I guess there are hats that give you an extra power skill), and the quests are repeating themselves. Kind of which there was a little more to this.

nah, it's just like Jetpack Joyride or any number of endless runners, just more charming and with tighter controls. but that is far from damning praise IMO

also kind of hit a wall with skill level - can't really get much beyond level 15 and I THINK I've seen all the enemies (blue bats, the purple cowskull-headed thingies that shoot electricity balls, the flaming skeletons, etc.)

I've been playing DragonIsland, which is sort of like...well, there's no getting around it, I'm basically playing budget Pokemon
