well they cant screen out all the terrible games, its inevitable that a few would find their way in

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 16:17 (thirteen years ago)

:o

I heard it was good? I don't keep up with "gaming"

catbus otm (gbx), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 16:20 (thirteen years ago)

i might be a little of a lone crank on this one, but i dont enjoy it at all. watch a gameplay video and see if you can stand the wise folksy old narrator describes everything you do more than i can, if so you might be fine

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 16:30 (thirteen years ago)

Discovered last night that Hexagon is 3.6 times easier on the iPad.

― Jeff

It's funny you say that, because on other boards I've been reading the exact opposite. I've been wondering if I was at a disadvantage, since I only have an iPad. The general theory I was reading was that the smaller screen made it easier to take in what was coming at a glance.

JCL, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 16:32 (thirteen years ago)

I'm with jjjusten on bastion, but admittedly I turned off the demo about 2/3 of the way through so I haven't played much of it. Hated the narrator.

Yaniv has themes now!

Also you can just pick a background image and a card deck image from your photo library.

finally got into 10000000....

tell me... WHERE is the time bar/counter?

Author ~ Coach ~ Goddess (s1ocki), Thursday, 13 September 2012 12:20 (thirteen years ago)

you can gauge how you're doing with time just by looking at your little running dude. the closer he is to the left of the screen, the closer he is to dying. getting damaged by an enemy knocks him to the left. eating food moves him to the right a little.

Thanks WEBSITE!! (Z S), Thursday, 13 September 2012 13:38 (thirteen years ago)

Except it's infuriating because if you do too well (or eat too much) it pushes you off the right hand side and wraps you back around to the left, putting you back in danger again.

Really didn't like that game.

JimD, Thursday, 13 September 2012 13:46 (thirteen years ago)

lost cities is a bit pricy for a simple card game, but lives up to the hype. really addictive, and well executed.

s.clover, Friday, 14 September 2012 23:59 (thirteen years ago)

Spider consumes me to this day, but Waking Mars didn't grip me at all. I dunno, maybe it gets better or replay value is high or something.

i got lost cities recently. It's good but I'd rather play carcassonne or ticket to ride.

pun lovin criminal (polyphonic), Saturday, 15 September 2012 00:35 (thirteen years ago)

guys bastion is really good

catbus otm (gbx), Saturday, 15 September 2012 01:30 (thirteen years ago)

oh yeah, loved bastion. but i played on a desktop, not an i-device. the narrator gets much more sparse in later sections, while the action is happening. but he does give long story exposition too. i liked the story, loved the music and the sense of place, so it all clicked. but if you aren't grabbed in by the time you get a bit through the second level, i don't know if you will be :-(

s.clover, Saturday, 15 September 2012 02:23 (thirteen years ago)

the control on the iPad is tremendous imo (I have it set on classic)

catbus otm (gbx), Saturday, 15 September 2012 02:26 (thirteen years ago)

I loved the narration.

Jeff, Saturday, 15 September 2012 02:28 (thirteen years ago)

There are a number of funny gags in the narration that help steer you back on track when you get caught in some of the stranger situations the game sets up.

s.clover, Saturday, 15 September 2012 02:49 (thirteen years ago)

STRANGER you say

Nhex, Saturday, 15 September 2012 03:07 (thirteen years ago)

i went for fieldrunners 2 HD as i am an old school nerd for tower defense... holy shit this thing takes FOREVER to load. i would recommend waiting till they patch.

Bastion I liked just for the art design and vibe

Also, when the hell is Star Command coming out?

Fiendish Doctor Wu (kingfish), Saturday, 15 September 2012 17:03 (thirteen years ago)

you know i want to hate on the design and vibe of bastion, as it references ALL of the twee-est "geek culture" touchstones (wild west + the future + magic + white hair + everyone's small + the name of the fucking game is ALMOST "Sebastien" ffs), but....i like those things ;_;

plus, the playability is ace: the dungeons are basically on rails (this is OK in a game like this, i don't wanna go exploring), the controls are v intuitive, you can customize to style without worrying about finding the "best" load-out, it is all top-shelf.

catbus otm (gbx), Saturday, 15 September 2012 17:16 (thirteen years ago)

the repetitive action becomes a bit of a drag - i imagine many people like me played it for the first hour or so then dropped it - though i'm glad i came back later to finish it. it's nice that every level adds a new weapon, and the Dream grinds are nice little side stories.

definitely otm about being able to customize and not worrying about optimization, it gives the game a bit less RPG fever, but in its place you feel like you can really mess around with whatever weapons you want to your own enjoymment.

but no doubt 90% of the game's charm is the style and presentation

Nhex, Saturday, 15 September 2012 19:01 (thirteen years ago)

also, white hair is a geek culture thing? i was into that way before everybody else guys

Nhex, Saturday, 15 September 2012 19:02 (thirteen years ago)

72.06 in Super Hexagon! It's weird how much easier the game has become. I'm playing it less, but usually going 40-60 seconds, and where I used to feel rushed, it has become much more relaxed. I still freak out whenever I get past 60 though and the screen turns blue.

JCL, Thursday, 20 September 2012 01:11 (thirteen years ago)

once you've unlocked the hyper level you should move onto the next one

Mordy, Thursday, 20 September 2012 01:35 (thirteen years ago)

lol i'm still @ under ten seconds

catbus otm (gbx), Thursday, 20 September 2012 03:10 (thirteen years ago)

catbus otm (gbx), Thursday, 20 September 2012 03:11 (thirteen years ago)

― Mordy

Oh yeah, I've been playing some of the harder difficulties too. On Super Hexagoner I'm up to 44.33, but I do prefer the easier difficulty and still want to pop out a much better score on there.

JCL, Thursday, 20 September 2012 03:21 (thirteen years ago)

Mordy, Sunday, 23 September 2012 02:46 (thirteen years ago)

New star soccer is amazing, meant to post about it here ages ago. Thankfully I'm past the "this is ruining my life" level of addiction.
