they are good. note that both are probably better experiences on iPad, unless you have small fingertips
― Nhex, Friday, 7 September 2012 16:34 (thirteen years ago)
people also rep for WELDER, I'm lukewarm.Scrabble is worth the investment, you can play speed games against the computer and it's fun.oh and DEFINITELY try Quarrel; it's great right up to the point where it gets basically impossible on the harder settings.Scribblenauts is, at heart, a word game too.
― This cad needs a cordial introduction to Eugene of Oxbow. (forksclovetofu), Friday, 7 September 2012 16:45 (thirteen years ago)
WELDER was great until they fucked it up by adding stupid new features.
― Jeff, Friday, 7 September 2012 16:53 (thirteen years ago)
skip WELDER, the design around the in-game app purchase stuff is garbage
― Nhex, Friday, 7 September 2012 17:59 (thirteen years ago)
Super Hexagon might be the ultimate bite sized game. It's the new one by Terry Cavanagh, the guy who made VVVVVV. So far my longest game was 15.05 seconds! It just came out this week and is on sale for 99 cents for a couple more days, I think. Recommended if you like super simple, but extremely tough arcade syle gaming with a retro soundtrack. There's a free version you can play online, but it seems much better on iOS.

Improved to 18.02
― JCL, Saturday, 8 September 2012 18:21 (thirteen years ago)
i remember playing the flash version and being reaaaally frustrated, but i could see how it might work better on a phone
― Nhex, Saturday, 8 September 2012 18:53 (thirteen years ago)
It's definitely not a game to play if you have anger issues! I've improved my score to 29.39.
― JCL, Saturday, 8 September 2012 19:23 (thirteen years ago)
Haven't played in awhile. I wish the look and feel wasn't so shitty but I like the core gameplay.

7 Little Words isn't very deep if you don't pay money, but I liked the free part of it:

Another endorsement here for Super Hexagon. I'm up to 55 seconds!

whirly word isn't bad.

43.35 seconds in Super Hexagon (which puts me a smidge ahead of Jeff). But I think it's given me epilepsy.
― JimD, Sunday, 9 September 2012 15:57 (thirteen years ago)
"game over. AGAIN."

58.52, thanks for the inspiration Jim. The game does do a number on my eyes too. I think playing some of the more advanced levels (as you unlock them) helps make the normal game seem a little more manageable.
― JCL, Sunday, 9 September 2012 16:40 (thirteen years ago)
42.43 high score for me so far. addictive.
― Mordy, Sunday, 9 September 2012 19:21 (thirteen years ago)
Snuck above 60s on Hexagon. Around 30s on Hexagoner, 8 on Hexagonest.
And 6s on Hyper Hexagon.

Can you guys recommend a puzzle or rpg affair that's really hard?

yet another game for me to be addicted too. finally unlocked hyper mode for hexagoner (high score of 62.11)
― Mordy, Monday, 10 September 2012 20:56 (thirteen years ago)
Annoying that I can't turn off the music/sfx on hexagon.

wait lol that doesn't work :(
volume at zero does I guess.
if i can't play spotify at the same time, i'm likely not playing your game
― This cad needs a cordial introduction to Eugene of Oxbow. (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 11 September 2012 16:15 (thirteen years ago)
might be worth contacting Cavanagh to ask for a prefpane and to turn on the "prefer outside music" flag; he's just one dude after all
― the physical impossibility of sb in the mind of someone fping (silby), Tuesday, 11 September 2012 16:24 (thirteen years ago)
Yeah, I spotify and play games on my morning commute. No way to turn off the game sounds, so it was just playing with Todd Terje this morning. Not the worst mash up, but nothing I want to revisit.
― Jeff, Tuesday, 11 September 2012 16:25 (thirteen years ago)
Discovered last night that Hexagon is 3.6 times easier on the iPad.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 13:08 (thirteen years ago)
i really love hexagon. for some reason this year i'm all about difficult games.
― Mordy, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 13:39 (thirteen years ago)
ok i started hexagon this morning despite not really liking hard games and it's pretty addictive. mainly because you do gradually get a little better.
― congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 14:18 (thirteen years ago)
whoever it was that mentioned spellsword, thanks, that game is quite fun and i'm getting a lot more hours of entertainment from it than any other free game i've ever played !
― Jibe, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 14:27 (thirteen years ago)
I'd say 90% on my hexagon games end in 18 seconds. I'm really bad when you get the pattern where the thick walls come in and you have to gradually rotate to escape.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 14:43 (thirteen years ago)
Anything beyond 18 seconds is just dumb luck.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 14:44 (thirteen years ago)
i just cracked waking mars, it's pretty interesting so far
― This cad needs a cordial introduction to Eugene of Oxbow. (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 14:45 (thirteen years ago)
I was really liking Waking Mars but it doesn't have much in the way of quest logging, and I made the mistake of putting it down for a few weeks. Came back to it and didn't have a clue what I was meant to be doing (plus I'd forgotten what all the seeds/plants did).
― JimD, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 15:02 (thirteen years ago)
good to know; i'll try to make a go of it in one.
― This cad needs a cordial introduction to Eugene of Oxbow. (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 15:15 (thirteen years ago)
i had the same issue with spider
so I guess Bastion is on the iPad now?
― catbus otm (gbx), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 15:28 (thirteen years ago)
well they cant screen out all the terrible games, its inevitable that a few would find their way in
― O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 16:17 (thirteen years ago)
:o
I heard it was good? I don't keep up with "gaming"
― catbus otm (gbx), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 16:20 (thirteen years ago)
i might be a little of a lone crank on this one, but i dont enjoy it at all. watch a gameplay video and see if you can stand the wise folksy old narrator describes everything you do more than i can, if so you might be fine
― O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 16:30 (thirteen years ago)
Discovered last night that Hexagon is 3.6 times easier on the iPad.― Jeff
― Jeff
It's funny you say that, because on other boards I've been reading the exact opposite. I've been wondering if I was at a disadvantage, since I only have an iPad. The general theory I was reading was that the smaller screen made it easier to take in what was coming at a glance.
― JCL, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 16:32 (thirteen years ago)
I'm with jjjusten on bastion, but admittedly I turned off the demo about 2/3 of the way through so I haven't played much of it. Hated the narrator.

Yaniv has themes now!
Also you can just pick a background image and a card deck image from your photo library.

finally got into 10000000....
tell me... WHERE is the time bar/counter?
― Author ~ Coach ~ Goddess (s1ocki), Thursday, 13 September 2012 12:20 (thirteen years ago)
you can gauge how you're doing with time just by looking at your little running dude. the closer he is to the left of the screen, the closer he is to dying. getting damaged by an enemy knocks him to the left. eating food moves him to the right a little.
― Thanks WEBSITE!! (Z S), Thursday, 13 September 2012 13:38 (thirteen years ago)
Except it's infuriating because if you do too well (or eat too much) it pushes you off the right hand side and wraps you back around to the left, putting you back in danger again.
Really didn't like that game.
― JimD, Thursday, 13 September 2012 13:46 (thirteen years ago)
lost cities is a bit pricy for a simple card game, but lives up to the hype. really addictive, and well executed.
