My purchases so far have been extremely modest...
1. TerrariaI've been wanting to play it / buy it at other sales, but just got to it now. Art is totally charming. $2.50
2. Fallout 3 & DLCI'd played a little an 360, but never got too into it. Have been wanting to try again (I'd traded in my 360 copy). Everything for $5 was a great deal.
3. Fallout: New VegasDidn't buy the DLC, but the core game for $5 is a crazy enough bargain. I'm thinking of starting this before going back to Fallout 3 - yes/no?
4. Cave Story+$2.50 flash deal bargain off my list.

I've heard great things about the Old World Blues expansion for F:NV, if you like 50s sci-fi schtick.
― Andrew Farrell, Monday, 16 July 2012 16:17 (thirteen years ago)
haven't played Terraria but that's a solid list at ridiculous priceshave only bought Ys Origin, Witcher & Pixeljunk Eden so far, hoping for some 75%+ action for Fortune Summoners, Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet & Rayman Origins
― zappi, Monday, 16 July 2012 16:33 (thirteen years ago)
also waiting on Fortune Summoners/ITSP, but i have a feeling those might just have to wait until the winter
― Nhex, Monday, 16 July 2012 16:38 (thirteen years ago)
JCL - Fallout 3, especially with the DLC, is just HUGE, might as well go with that first; also, from what I understand there are various gameplay improvements in New Vegas, so you might want to save that until later, depending on your philosophy
Rayman went to $14.99 a few days ago - probably still too much for that game honestly, as charming as it is
― Nhex, Monday, 16 July 2012 16:39 (thirteen years ago)
Ah, I only just spotted that F:NV is written by Chris "Planescape: Torment" Avellone
― Andrew Farrell, Monday, 16 July 2012 16:42 (thirteen years ago)
"a valley without wind" looks kind of cool, anyone know anything else about indie bundle 4? i have (and didn't really care for) superbrothers.
― adam, Monday, 16 July 2012 17:34 (thirteen years ago)
Aha, Dear Esther down to £3.49.
Ha, those fuckers just switched it from a -50% to a -75%! I've been had.
― JimD, Monday, 16 July 2012 17:42 (thirteen years ago)
I can always recommend Audiosurf - don't know about the othersThinking about picking up that Y's game by itself - thoughts?
― Nhex, Monday, 16 July 2012 17:58 (thirteen years ago)
anyone know anything else about indie bundle 4
A while ago I played a tiny bit (15 minutes?) of Blocks the Matter. I bought it mainly because I liked the art style. Turned out it was more of a puzzle game than a platformer (I thought it was more of a platformer with puzzle elements). It seemed okay (nice art and atmosphere) and I've meant to go back to it...
― JCL, Monday, 16 July 2012 18:01 (thirteen years ago)
oh whoops - IV - yeah, Sanctum is a pretty decent co-op tower defense thing if you're not already sick of those, it's all in first person. cool concept
atom zombie smasher kinda sucks, at least from the 15 minutes I played of it for last winter's sale
― Nhex, Monday, 16 July 2012 18:04 (thirteen years ago)
payday looks sick
I'd be all over that if it were on 360
― am0n, the road to nowhere (cozen), Monday, 16 July 2012 18:10 (thirteen years ago)
out of curiosity - you guys who bought Dear Esther played the original? because while it was interesting i don't really see the pull of playing another version
― Nhex, Monday, 16 July 2012 22:04 (thirteen years ago)
No, just this one.
If people like having the living shit scared out of them*, Amnesia is on special now.
KOTOR is stupid cheap, but I have no idea who wouldn't have played it yet.
* I understand it's basically a game-length version of the Cradle level from Thief, but I never played that because I don't like having the living shit scared out of me.
― Andrew Farrell, Monday, 16 July 2012 22:11 (thirteen years ago)
how do I shot gaming PC
most cost effective way to put it together myself from individual components?
― am0n, the road to nowhere (cozen), Monday, 16 July 2012 22:23 (thirteen years ago)
So help me I just bought Amnesia. Open question whether I will regret the purchase because I never get round to playing it, or because I get the living shit scared out of me.
― ledge, Monday, 16 July 2012 22:27 (thirteen years ago)
cozen yes its cheaper to put it together yrself but if yr not confident then places do it for you for not that much of a mark upeg. http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/desktop-pcs/intel-gaming-computers/and even if you don't use them sites like the above are useful, cos you can go through the steps of putting an order together, picking the parts you want & it checks if they are all compatible

~buys second xbox instead~
― am0n, the road to nowhere (cozen), Monday, 16 July 2012 22:45 (thirteen years ago)
I didn't know there was an original Dear Esther. I actually know almost nothing about it, I think I read the first couple of paragraphs of an article about it, and then stopped because I'd already decided I wanted to play it, and didn't want to run into any spoilers, and I've been meaning to pick it up since then.
― JimD, Monday, 16 July 2012 22:52 (thirteen years ago)
fair enough - i can understand wanting to try it out if you didn't play the original, but i'm really surprised that the commercial remake even happened
― Nhex, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 00:25 (thirteen years ago)
btw you guys have until about 4 more hours to get Saints Row 3 for $12.50
― Nhex, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 00:51 (thirteen years ago)
Building a PC is not difficult if you are handy in the slightest and have a basic understanding of the parts.
Search out the Falcon guide: http://i1002.photobucket.com/albums/af150/The_FalconO6/CurrentLogicalPCBuyingGuide/Guide.png
― calstars, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 01:24 (thirteen years ago)
it's not difficult, just really time consuming. it only takes an hour to build the thing, maybe, but the time you'll spend researching the parts... i think paying an extra $100 or so for some guy to do all the shopping and putting it together is fair. plus, let's be honest - once you're in that deep you're not gonna be saving a lot of money anymore since you'll actually start caring about what parts are in there
― Nhex, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 01:37 (thirteen years ago)
i love picking pc parts and putting it all together. however this path leads directly to, like, buying a trackIR.
― adam, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 02:21 (thirteen years ago)
wait, why the heck is that guide in a giant .png?
btw search the guides on Anandtech and Ars Technica if you want more guidance, they do roundups every couple of months or so to reflect recent pricing on parts
― Nhex, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 02:29 (thirteen years ago)
it only takes an hour to build the thing, maybe
If you do it right, sure, but if you do it like me it takes a whole week!
― JCL, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 03:02 (thirteen years ago)
hey, no judgment here, i got out the game completely after about 10 years or so, crashed so hard i went Mac
― Nhex, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 03:06 (thirteen years ago)
it's would take me about a week of reading just to decipher your average spec sheet
what gfx card, what processor, how much ram... ~buys third xbox~
― am0n, the road to nowhere (cozen), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 06:55 (thirteen years ago)
Eurogamer specced a complete and perfectly respectable ~£300 PC a couple of weeks ago, you could just copy this:

me too!
binary domain is one of the flash deals right now, $13.59, well worth it at that price.
― adam, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 19:26 (thirteen years ago)
awesome, thanks jim - I'll look into that
just want to play dayz tbrr
― skrill xx (cozen), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 22:01 (thirteen years ago)
I just finished Dear Esther and I can't imagine playing it again either but it was pretty incredible I think.
― JimD, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 22:48 (thirteen years ago)
Is Binary Domain good? I got it as part of the Sega bundle but don't know anything about it.

― skrill xx (cozen)
just a quick heads up, because that £300 PC probably isn't good enough to run ARMA II / dayz - it doesn't seem to meet the minumum specs. ARMA II is actaully one of the most demanding games (from what I understand - never played it myself)...
― JCL, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 23:40 (thirteen years ago)
binary domain is a gears of war clone by the team that made all the yakuza games (except the zombie one). it's a straight up 3rd person cover based shooter, buttons laid out just like gears. EXCEPT and this is important the story is "good" (in a japanese way) and the characters are really fun. there's a lot of interaction between squad members and they respond to the player's choices (both dialogue and in-gameplay) somewhat convincingly.
mostly, it has two of my favorite characters in recent games--big bo, who at first seems like another racist japanese attempt at portraying an african-american man but somehow transcends all that and is just a total bro; and cain, a french robot with a french accent (?) and a neckerchief (??). both of these guys are on some hk-47 level shit.
― adam, Wednesday, 18 July 2012 00:32 (thirteen years ago)
the actual robot-shooting gameplay is kind of whatever, not gears-level polish but better than most i guess.
― adam, Wednesday, 18 July 2012 00:33 (thirteen years ago)
i'm kinda trogging my way through the original Gears right now - the story indeed does suck

what would I have to add to the eurogamer PC to run dayz?
― skrill xx (cozen), Wednesday, 18 July 2012 10:14 (thirteen years ago)
cozen u should also check refurbished PCs. you can pick up some real bargains if you're not bothered abt the system & components being brand-new ( do your research of course!)
