They come across as dicks in the pitch video. And the items in the pitch are backwards - does anyone care about the advertising on their website? It isn't the intrusive screen filling pop-up blare-y video kind. As I understand it, the real core of this idea is that if they get enough money, they'll be able to turn down corporate commissions and have more time to make additional comics for their website. It's an experiment really. And they're probably the only webcomic that could do this without a lot of risk - if they don't get the funding they'll carry on as before, if they get funded for a first year but not a second, they'll go back to the model they use now.

Me too.

All of the Penny Arcade "joke" gifts are seriously unfunny. It's just like "AHAHAHAHA HE'LL CHASE A DUCK! A DUCK! MY WHAT AN ABSURD NOTION". And I'm having to give them the benefit of the doubt that the "we'll follow you on twitter for a year for $500" is also a joke, because if not... Jesus, man.
― emil.y, Wednesday, 11 July 2012 13:40 (thirteen years ago)
The joke gifts are a reference to this comic.http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2011/5/23/Not that that makes them any less unfunny. This article explains things a bit better: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/comic-riffs/post/penny-arcade-kickstarter-creators-aim-for-an-ad-free-site--and-dont-sweat-the-backlash-updated/2012/07/10/gJQA0nS4bW_blog.html

i backed the OUYA as well. cool idea.

I hate Penny Arcade but if nerds want to throw their money away to help make a website they enjoy less visually cluttered, it's fine by me.
― polyphonic, Wednesday, 11 July 2012 17:01 (thirteen years ago)
jesus christ almost three million in two days huh?yeah, i'll buy one too. I think OUYA needs its own thread

The only kickstarter that should happen is Ron Gilbert making his version of Monkey Island 3.

Though we cannot honor game pre-orders or mail out T-shirts without taking money in, we do want each of the 800+ of you willing to back our game to be able to have some ownership in it....Pledge Level 1 - $10 – Though we cannot honor a pre-order, we would like to thank you all by letting you suggest a “Tip From Uncle Sensei” for our loading screen. Pledge Level 2 - $25 – Because we are letting people who pledged $10 submit a Tip, we are going to let anyone who pledged $25 or more suggest up to 3 “Tips From Uncle Sensei”.

it looks like they're 150k away from mac version. also, i'm so burnt on out developers promising mac support and then not following through. i guess that if they promise it on kickstarter they won't be able to put it off indefinitely... have any of these kickstarter games actually been made yet?
― Mordy, Monday, 17 September 2012 14:20 (thirteen years ago)
whatevs. i pledged
― Mordy, Monday, 17 September 2012 14:25 (thirteen years ago)
Faster Than Light was a Kickstarter project, I think. Thing about Mac support is, if they promise it at the beginning it's a lot more likely, since they can build for cross-platform from the start (as opposed to taking a year to port the engine/assets over or whatever) so I'm more optimistic in these cases. (That said, COME ON, TORCHLIGHT II, GAWD, you shoulda known better)
Amazing that Cheetahman II went over the goal, though
― Nhex, Monday, 17 September 2012 14:31 (thirteen years ago)
