Haha I felt like I was going to be castigated as a slacker when playing co-op because I tend to pick up everything that drops ever (while moldering piles of laundry haunt my floor), and then nip back to sell / disenchant it all.

As long as you're the nice dude who offers things you don't need that seem semi-useful to others, that's cool.
― mh, Monday, 23 April 2012 15:48 (fourteen years ago)
Glad to report that the voice acting is still hilariously awful
― Nhex, Monday, 23 April 2012 15:56 (fourteen years ago)
co-op is set so that everyone gets unique loot; no stealing from your pals
― boy, was that Dan Fielding hungry for some cake! (forksclovetofu), Monday, 23 April 2012 16:06 (fourteen years ago)
I am sure that people will find some hilarious thing to be lame about, otherwise it wouldn't be Diablo
― mh, Monday, 23 April 2012 16:14 (fourteen years ago)
really like the unique loot thing, btw - it's kind of a pain in the ass even if you're playing with friends, since everyone has to stop and divide up the loot, in pretty much every game of this type (be it Titan Quest or Borderlands). the way it is now, you only see loot you can pick up. I believe Torchlight 2 will have the same thing

so is there anything more to this game other than just killing stuff? looks pretty boring to me.
― PSOD (Ste), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 00:33 (fourteen years ago)
nope, that's the formula!
― Nhex, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 00:53 (fourteen years ago)
oh COME ON ste; you never played the original?
― boy, was that Dan Fielding hungry for some cake! (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 02:41 (fourteen years ago)
there's more than just killing stuff.... there's also collecting stuff !
― Jibe, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 10:01 (fourteen years ago)
forsk, i actually have it but never played it. (i got it with warcraft and starcraft in a package some years ago)
― PSOD (Ste), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 13:40 (fourteen years ago)
FORKS!
― PSOD (Ste), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 13:41 (fourteen years ago)
I think they're going to probably have the long-term game better planned out this time. afaik Diablo 2 is still playable, and they kept adding more shit you could do in multiplayer. Like if you kill Super Uber Hell Nightmare Diablo and his brothers they each drop a unique amulet and if you and your friends each throw those out in the town square in a new game then Super Duper Uber Diablo with flames shooting out his ass shows up and you can kill him or something.
― mh, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 15:01 (fourteen years ago)
Ste, it's as addictive and perfect as any game I've ever played. I failed at least one college class specifically because of diablo
― boy, was that Dan Fielding hungry for some cake! (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 15:19 (fourteen years ago)
it seems to me that Blizzard is responsible for a lot of college students' poor GPAs

― Nhex, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 15:40 (fourteen years ago)
now i just want to play warcraft 2
― PSOD (Ste), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 15:58 (fourteen years ago)
man I lost so much of my life to Dune II, I have no idea if I would have graduated had Warcraft 2 been released when I was in college
― I need new, hip khakis (DJP), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 16:07 (fourteen years ago)
anyone diving in? I keep hemming and hawing about it. I don't know whether I want to go for this or Torchlight II; I can't imagine myself playing two click to kills.
― EZ Snappin, Monday, 14 May 2012 16:11 (fourteen years ago)
is this out yet? haven't heard from some of my buddies in a few days - pretty much preparing to be without friends for a year or two b/c of this
― frogbs, Monday, 14 May 2012 16:14 (fourteen years ago)
midnight tonight.
― EZ Snappin, Monday, 14 May 2012 16:14 (fourteen years ago)
I'm in your position, Snap, don't know if I really want to throw down on this. But for Torchlight II I'll wait until the Mac port comes out, at least.
― Nhex, Monday, 14 May 2012 16:19 (fourteen years ago)
i think i'm in but i'm gonna have to put some real serious boundaries on it or else i'm going to lose a job
― (Name Withheld to Avoid Hassle) (forksclovetofu), Monday, 14 May 2012 16:20 (fourteen years ago)
I thought they were trying for a same date release for the Mac version. If not, that makes the choice much, much easier.
― EZ Snappin, Monday, 14 May 2012 16:22 (fourteen years ago)
talking Torchlight II, obv. Diablo III is both systems as far as I know.
We can check for you on this thread every few days if you want, forks?
― Andrew Farrell, Monday, 14 May 2012 16:25 (fourteen years ago)
please do. i have a date tonight that a BIG part of me wants to cancel in favor of going home to bed and waking up at 1am to play for a few hours before work.

storywise? nah, you already know the plot
― (Name Withheld to Avoid Hassle) (forksclovetofu), Monday, 14 May 2012 21:10 (fourteen years ago)
yeah, the plot/characters are the dumbest thing by far. it's kind of charming how they didn't try to make the voice acting any better
― Nhex, Monday, 14 May 2012 22:07 (fourteen years ago)
dammit dammit dammit, i'm trying to resist getting this but it's hard.

battlenet and blizzard.com slightly sluggish to react, but I can click around in there and still get some action.
I'm going to wait on this one til the patches start coming.
When's the next SC2 coming, anyway? Next summer?

We’ll be back soon!
The Blizzard family of websites is temporarily unavailable. Thank you for your patience!
― (Name Withheld to Avoid Hassle) (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 07:24 (fourteen years ago)
ha, blizzard feared their servers would go down with the rush of people trying to get in. they were supposed to have a 45 second waiting time or smth like that to lighten the load on servers, but i guess that wasn't enough.

hah I actually thought the voice acting in D2 was pretty good, the voice acting in the D3 commercials/trailers was pretty cringe inducing tho

I agreed with a lot of this - IMO it's the same issue playing difficult NES and SNES games on an emulator, where you know you can just create a ton of save states and 'cheat' the game, which in turn makes the whole idea of playing it a lot less fun - you don't really feel like you 'beat' anything.
― frogbs, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 13:48 (fourteen years ago)
that article was a rollercoaster ride of TRUTH BOMB / WTF? for me. it did make me want to play his new game when it comes out tho.
― Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 14:05 (fourteen years ago)
it made me wanna play diablo3 AND his game. The suggestion that a "number accumulator" isn't a game is ridiculous; I will buy D3 as farmville for hacknslash nerds though and own that. I love that he put up a number accumulator and his readers promptly played it to killscreen
