do you get to keep them if you're no longer a PS+ member?

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 6 June 2012 02:25 (fourteen years ago)

no.

the acquisition and practice of music is unfavourable to the health of (abanana), Wednesday, 6 June 2012 02:53 (fourteen years ago)

well never mind then.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 6 June 2012 02:54 (fourteen years ago)

that's insane. kind of a nutty lineup. I don't have hard drive space for that!

jump them into a gang - into the absurd (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 6 June 2012 03:57 (fourteen years ago)

i've stayed away from Plus cos the whole "don't get to keep the games" thing, but looking at it as a rental service this new addition makes it seem kinda interesting? all depends on what games they have, but according to their blog games are going to be rotated every couple of months and their will be 45 of them in the first year. hmmmm.

zappi, Wednesday, 6 June 2012 11:21 (fourteen years ago)

i never return to games after a year of purchase anyway? 75 bucks for an array of games to try yearly is good math. Again though: the hard drive issue is serious! And I have a 120 gig model. Is it easy to set up a terabyte drive via usb to help with space on this? The download install time on those games has gotta be like a day apiece.

“Argh!” I cry. But I really don’t care. (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 6 June 2012 13:46 (fourteen years ago)

supposedly once you download something you can play it as long as you have a subscription, and if you are running out of space you can delete them & redownload at a later date? slowly warming to this idea tbh. glad i don't have a bandwidth cap tho, can see that being a huge problem for people.

zappi, Wednesday, 6 June 2012 14:16 (fourteen years ago)

That's true.

Just Cause 2 took me all night to download and install. 15 GB!

the acquisition and practice of music is unfavourable to the health of (abanana), Wednesday, 6 June 2012 16:42 (fourteen years ago)

so apparently you can't use an external to store games but it's pretty easy to put a 500 gig/1 tb drive directly onto the ps3? If that's so, this is amazingly good news and i don't mind paying for netflix instant gaming style

“Argh!” I cry. But I really don’t care. (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 6 June 2012 19:31 (fourteen years ago)

good thing ps+ instadownloads/installs this stuff if you set it to.
this could be kinda game changing. Could shut down used game stores in the long run.

thomp, Wednesday, 6 June 2012 20:08 (fourteen years ago)

Can you migrate a smaller HD out if you want to swap to a bigger one? I'm having serious storage issues here & i wanna download all these grate games.

fuck u ps3 for putting Just Cause 2 on sale a week before it went free so I would pay for it for no reason

antexit, Thursday, 7 June 2012 19:52 (fourteen years ago)

I think you can back up the data to something external, swap a new one in, and then restore?

mh, Thursday, 7 June 2012 19:54 (fourteen years ago)

hi! hello! what is the general opinion here on YAKUZA 4? (or 3?)

kelpolaris, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 04:31 (fourteen years ago)

I LOVE them. I haven't completed Yakuza 4 yet though. They're really fun - the plots are ridiculous by not terrible, and the writing contains actual jokes that are funny. The combat is decent. There isn't too much pointless wandering around (the random battles get a bit annoying). BUY THESE GAMES, THEY ARE BRILLIANT.

Anyone looking at Skullgirls?

Victory Chainsaw! (DJP), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 17:24 (fourteen years ago)

Its tournament presence died. I hear there's a patch coming that will change a lot -- easier timing, shorter combos.

Anyone getting Dyad?

polyphonic, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 18:56 (thirteen years ago)

dyad kinda isn't that good. the controls just aren't there. the game penalizes mistakes heavily so feeling like the controls screwed me rather than my own ineptitude is frustrating.

this is after two weeks of spelunky obsession--and that game a) is hard as fuck b) controls perfectly so c) fuckups always feel like one's own fuckups

Nhex, Wednesday, 8 August 2012 16:41 (thirteen years ago)

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 9 August 2012 20:34 (thirteen years ago)

the ps3 browser is such a joke... have you tried to use youtube on it?

Author ~ Coach ~ Goddess (s1ocki), Thursday, 9 August 2012 20:38 (thirteen years ago)

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 9 August 2012 20:40 (thirteen years ago)

it actually works pretty well! i use it for live al-jazeera

i suppose i could blame the bbc for using a version of flash incompatible with older browsers but..... really sony, just update your fucking flash in one of your endless series of system updates

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 9 August 2012 20:46 (thirteen years ago)

The Playstation 3 is MISTAH KURTZ HE DEAD

Froze on startup screen. Restarted, it loaded the xmb literally ten times slower than usual, then refused to play a film. Went to safe mode and tried to restore file system but it froze. Restarted normal mode and it offered to rebuild file system, got to 100% and then froze on restart. Tried again, same again.

kmfdotm (ledge), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 20:05 (thirteen years ago)

oof that's awful

Lil Swayne of Pie (DJP), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 20:06 (thirteen years ago)

Still got the last best hope of full system restore, bye bye Wipeout data (but no more than that).

kmfdotm (ledge), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 20:09 (thirteen years ago)

Ooh it's coming back to life!

kmfdotm (ledge), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 20:13 (thirteen years ago)

Ooh the file system is still corrupted!

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 20:56 (thirteen years ago)

Its ok I did a full restore and it works! And the film that didn't play still doesn't! But other ones do!

kmfdotm (ledge), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 21:00 (thirteen years ago)

My PS3 made some worrying noises when I tried to eject a DVD (wasn't sure if there was anything in it). After a sweaty few minutes of power off/power on/try ejecting, it finally spat out a DVD. It then played another DVD fine (Princess Mononoke, since you ask), so I celebrated by buying 3D Dot Game Heroes, which I've been meaning to pick up since, well, whenever it came out. I'm sure I'll get bored of it a few hours in, but I love the idea.

CraigG, Thursday, 16 August 2012 11:31 (thirteen years ago)

omg Tokyo Jungle is getting a western release in September. GOTY here, folks!
