I was wondering the same thing! I even cagily copped a 150 on purpose after seeing a comp opponent get -50 from that and was hella confused when my gambit didn't work

Ok so I read the rules and it's 100 and 200 in single player and 50/100 online. No idea why I thought 150 would work

o i suppose you could pick one up from the pile if the right one's there. still have to get lucky tho.
the discard pile that is
eg player to my right had one card left, swapped it for the discard pile so I knew what it was, and that it was low enough to win. I had intentionally played my hand to try and get 150 why becuase proof of concepts. and lo he had dropped a card that I could use to get the hand I wanted (16 in this case). picked it up, third dude played, and then the other guy yaniv'd as I had anticipated. I reached 150 but obv no bonus because duh I got the rules wrong

it's not something to depend upon, but sometimes you can nudge it towards working (esp if you're shooting for it, you can do a little math to see what cards you can swap from your hand to make the right value)
