GTAIII is 99 cents this weekend.
Also enjoying Puzzlejuice and Radballs, but the aesthetics of the latter are actually more the point than the gameplay
― Spleen of Hearts (kingfish), Saturday, 18 February 2012 17:39 (fourteen years ago)
Chinatown Wars is US$0.99 too
― Wub wub wub wubwubwubwub wub Pzzzzzzz WUBB wubwub (Autumn Almanac), Saturday, 18 February 2012 21:44 (fourteen years ago)
Yaniv feels pretty luck-based, the number of offensive options you have is pretty limited... am I wrong?
― Nhex, Saturday, 18 February 2012 22:38 (fourteen years ago)
It's a card game. Of course it's luck based.
That said, sometimes the best thing you can do is trade small cards for big cards that help you make a straight, and sometimes it's good to spend a joker to help get rid of cards. And also, pay attention to what cards your opponents are drawing.

hate YANIV
10s ALWAYS swapped for J K Q
great thanks YANIV
― slinky connoisseur (cozen), Sunday, 19 February 2012 01:39 (fourteen years ago)
I've figured that with jokers there's really no reason to hang on to them til the end is there? It makes no diff to yr score if you have them or not. Also it took me a game or two to realize that it's v dumb to use jokers to make pairs...
― I have one thing to say: "Roxanne Shanté" (Stevie D(eux)), Sunday, 19 February 2012 02:00 (fourteen years ago)
ya you have to be pretty careful with jokers... better to have one in the hand than to drop it for no reason (and give it to the next guy) just to 'get rid of a card.'
― the jazz zinger (s1ocki), Sunday, 19 February 2012 06:41 (fourteen years ago)
i actually find they're useful to make it seem like you have more in the hand and thus ASSAF fools
Oh man, heavy sales still going on. Might buy FIFA 12, too.
Can anybody suggest a good tycoon/econ sim along the likes of what Kairosoft does? I like building and running this little system of something in a phone. SimCity is too clunky.
― Spleen of Hearts (kingfish), Monday, 20 February 2012 18:45 (fourteen years ago)
i want a new iphone game what should i get
― A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Monday, 20 February 2012 18:51 (fourteen years ago)
xpost
How about Kairosoft's own Oh! Edo Towns or Mega Mall Story?
― polyphonic, Monday, 20 February 2012 18:53 (fourteen years ago)
Have any of y'all played Hero Academy? It's pretty cool.

― A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Monday, 20 February 2012 19:00 (fourteen years ago)
I buy all Kairosoft games the minute I see them on the app store, so I've already beaten those.
― Spleen of Hearts (kingfish), Monday, 20 February 2012 20:01 (fourteen years ago)
chocolate tycoon is supposed to be good but I don't like how it looks.

Any old-school hex-grid, turn-based war games out there? Digging up info on the Avalon Hill Starship Troopers game made me feel nostalgic.
― Stockhausen's Ekranoplan Quartet (Elvis Telecom), Monday, 20 February 2012 22:01 (fourteen years ago)
^seconding this request. A hex game would totally hit the spot
― tmi but (Z S), Monday, 20 February 2012 22:08 (fourteen years ago)
You guys might like Greed Corp. It is hex based but with a twist.
― polyphonic, Monday, 20 February 2012 22:09 (fourteen years ago)
Oh but it might be ipad only, not sure.
― polyphonic, Monday, 20 February 2012 22:11 (fourteen years ago)
I still play Strategery a bunch, a kinda old, very stripped down hexy Risk-ish war game.
― Euler, Monday, 20 February 2012 22:12 (fourteen years ago)
Steam's offering GreedCorp to me on a PC game list.
― Also unknown as Zora (Surfing At Work), Monday, 20 February 2012 22:12 (fourteen years ago)
For me Greed Corp is a little too fancy and maybe too cartoony. But it appears to be a fairly deep and interesting game. I played through the training mode and was like "hmm, cool, back to Skyrim."
― polyphonic, Monday, 20 February 2012 22:16 (fourteen years ago)
Man, I have zero desire for an iPad except to play games on it
― tmi but (Z S), Monday, 20 February 2012 22:18 (fourteen years ago)
Ironically my iPad goes everywhere with me and I can't find a game I'm interested in.

Big Little War Game is pretty simple compared to AH/SPI fare, and has been described as the iOS version of Advance Wars for the Game Boy. I like it, but will reserve my love for a whomever ports the Combat Mission tactical WWII PC games are ported.

― polyphonic, Monday, 20 February 2012 23:21 (fourteen years ago)
how was it as an irl card game anyway?
― the jeremy lin of YANIV (cozen), Monday, 20 February 2012 23:23 (fourteen years ago)
Very very fun. It moves quickly, and unlike rummy there is that moment when you think you won but it turns out you didn't. Getting assaffed is fucking brutal.
― polyphonic, Monday, 20 February 2012 23:25 (fourteen years ago)

this looks promising (it's called Great Little War Game, though, in case someone tries to search for it and can't find it)!
― tmi but (Z S), Tuesday, 21 February 2012 00:28 (fourteen years ago)
i tried it a few months ago and immediately found it disagreeable
― A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Tuesday, 21 February 2012 00:34 (fourteen years ago)
