you don't need pro to play online

lol, stupid me. basically i didn't have any "play online" thing so i thought i had to have pro. whereas it turns out i can nvr play online cos i don't have game center compatibility. anyone know if there's a legit reason why game center isn't available on iphone 3g or is it just one thing to make me feel like i shd upgrade?

but it's hard to figure out what i'm doing wrong when i trade a card worth 10 in 4x and keep getting other 10 value cards back

also i was down to the last two with a lot of ground to catch up, got four yanivs in a row which never happens, then on the fifth which would've got me the crown, the bastard assafed me and won instead.

i bought the full version of yaniv and ticket to ride. I'm josephcotten on gamecenter.

I love ticket to ride but it really doesn't suit asynch multiplayer. Getting most fun from single player against the cpu really.

ticket to ride looks great but the screen seems soooo small for a game like that. want ipad version.

is it even available for iphone? i thought it was ipad only.

yeah, jim otm - asynch just slows it right down. the fun of ttr is that it's fairly fast-paced, even with 4 or 5

works fine on the small screen once you get used to it; better on ipad of course.

Yaniv feels pretty luck-based, the number of offensive options you have is pretty limited... am I wrong?

It's a card game. Of course it's luck based.

That said, sometimes the best thing you can do is trade small cards for big cards that help you make a straight, and sometimes it's good to spend a joker to help get rid of cards. And also, pay attention to what cards your opponents are drawing.

I've figured that with jokers there's really no reason to hang on to them til the end is there? It makes no diff to yr score if you have them or not. Also it took me a game or two to realize that it's v dumb to use jokers to make pairs...

ya you have to be pretty careful with jokers... better to have one in the hand than to drop it for no reason (and give it to the next guy) just to 'get rid of a card.'

i actually find they're useful to make it seem like you have more in the hand and thus ASSAF fools

Can anybody suggest a good tycoon/econ sim along the likes of what Kairosoft does? I like building and running this little system of something in a phone. SimCity is too clunky.

I played yaniv with a real life deck of cards this weekend.

Any old-school hex-grid, turn-based war games out there? Digging up info on the Avalon Hill Starship Troopers game made me feel nostalgic.

You guys might like Greed Corp. It is hex based but with a twist.

Oh but it might be ipad only, not sure.

I still play Strategery a bunch, a kinda old, very stripped down hexy Risk-ish war game.

Steam's offering GreedCorp to me on a PC game list.

For me Greed Corp is a little too fancy and maybe too cartoony. But it appears to be a fairly deep and interesting game. I played through the training mode and was like "hmm, cool, back to Skyrim."

Big Little War Game is pretty simple compared to AH/SPI fare, and has been described as the iOS version of Advance Wars for the Game Boy. I like it, but will reserve my love for a whomever ports the Combat Mission tactical WWII PC games are ported.
