OKAY SO
1. Who doesn't have Cogs and wants it? It's fun as hell, one of the best-constructed casual games I've played in a long time. Highly recommended.2. Who could use a 50% off coupon good for one (1) Valve title and somehow doesn't already have one from the winter sale thing? I've got two to give away.

Compete with Steam on a digital games for cheap price level, or are they offering any of what Steam gets you as well (auto-patching, communities, achievements)?
― Andrew Farrell, Sunday, 1 July 2012 09:40 (fourteen years ago)
some are Steam compatibleeg http://www.amazon.com/2K-Games-41045k-Dual-Pack1/dp/B0083W649Ihttp://www.amazon.com/Borderlands-Game-Year-Edition-Download/dp/B004M5HV5G/
― zappi, Sunday, 1 July 2012 09:47 (fourteen years ago)
xp on prices, but like zappi's examples - their own client doesn't do that stuff - amazon now explains what DRM is on a title, even offering different versions, so for a lot of games, you can buy that through Amazon and activate it on Steam
alternatively, you can DRM-free versions, non-Steam. but in many cases this year they've actually gotten the lowest price for games, beating Steam's sale prices, which you then activate on Steam! so you get the best of everything (assuming you want to keep everything on Steam like I do)
― Nhex, Sunday, 1 July 2012 15:49 (fourteen years ago)
ok i hope that was vaguely comprehensible
― Nhex, Sunday, 1 July 2012 15:50 (fourteen years ago)
What is your reason for wanting to keep everything on Steam?
― calstars, Sunday, 1 July 2012 18:01 (fourteen years ago)
because i have bought so many games and bundles from so many different online retailers, it's impossible to keep track of now; on Steam alone my profile lists 235 games. it's not like i'm spending a ton of money on these, but that the market has completely bottomed out on pc game prices since Steam went crazy (which is awesome for consumers)
off the top of my head: gog.com, gamersgate, humblebundle, indieroyale, amazon, Apple App Store, a million other indie bundles like groupees/be mine bundle. let's not get into the ones i've bought directly from the developers sites! trying to remember, store, and backup every game i've bought is an insurmountable task.
not to mention SteamPlay is extremely convenient in giving me both PC and Mac versions wherever/whenever I want for most games I buy now, as I rarely buy PC-only games on Steam anymore.
ironically, though i am pushing for steam here, i'm still super glad that i have the option to do my own backups when they're sold DRM-free. I don't see Steam going down anytime soon, but who knows? Especially with the other retailers I've listed.
witness my backlog of shame:http://lambentstew.com/webblog/miniproject/steamanalysis?steamid=nhex
kinda staggering to realize that i've only played 40% of my library, give or take (it counts DLC entries as a separate game) and that's counting over 1700 hours of playtime!
― Nhex, Sunday, 1 July 2012 19:42 (fourteen years ago)
damn, is recettear that good? i mean i bought it but i uh haven't played it yet
― Authorities don't know who shot the 50 Cent the goose. (forksclovetofu), Sunday, 1 July 2012 20:45 (fourteen years ago)
Recettear is worth playing, yes
― Fiendish Doctor Wu! (kingfish), Sunday, 1 July 2012 21:03 (fourteen years ago)
I dunno about that tool, I mean it's telling me I never played half life 2...
― JimD, Sunday, 1 July 2012 21:44 (fourteen years ago)
nah Recettear in all honesty isn't THAT good, but it really scratched a itch for me at the time. eventually I awoke from my haze, escaping that endless grind...
steam didn't start keeping track of playtime until... 2008-9ish? so that might be why HL2 doesn't show up. also if you're in offline mode, the hours won't track either.
― Nhex, Sunday, 1 July 2012 22:31 (fourteen years ago)
Sure, I just mean that I'm not going to feel too guilty about the fact it says I've never played 73% of the games I own if a bunch of those are false negatives anyway. Course there's still plenty of stuff in there that I DO feel bad about.
