My high is 990,000, 2627 coins.
― Jeff, Tuesday, 15 November 2011 17:19 (fourteen years ago)
the only prob with temple run is it should show you how much you've run as a running tally. (no pun intended).
also, the fact that there are three score variables (distance, points and coins) seems... inelegant.
― the jazz zinger (s1ocki), Tuesday, 15 November 2011 17:20 (fourteen years ago)
my highest score on Temple Run is like 200k. last week I introduced a couple of buddies at work to it; yesterday one of them announced that they'd had a 660k run and had already unlocked all of the alternate costumes. damn kids and their vidya gaming prowess.

also I went on a bit of a spree last night; quick rundown on what I got:
- King Cashing: unfuckingbelievable. as mentioned above, it's basically Slingo + RPG character development. I can see myself sinking a LOT of time into this one. - Disc Drivin': aka Shuffleboard With Friends. love it to death so far although it's kind of irritating how it takes longer to send your moves than it does to actually make them. - King of Dragon Pass: apparently a combination of choose your own adventure stories and Civilization's political mechanics. I need to dive into this deeper (especially since it cost ten fkn bux COME ON) but what I've played so far is pretty cool. - Poker Pals: refuses to open :( apparently I need to update to iOS 5, but seeing as how I can't function without jailbreaking functionality (primarily SBSettings, BrowserChanger, and BiteSMS) I'll just have to pass for now. - WELDER: haven't really gotten a chance to try this out yet. Bejeweled + Boggle sounds like a pretty deadly combination, though. - Jetpack Joyride: the actual game mechanic of using the jetpack is kind of meh, but I loooooooove the micro-rewards structure (especially the last-chance roulette wheel).

really curious to hear your thoughts on king of dragon pass; I've been very sorely temptedjetpack is great for two minute jags.

like I said I'm still very early on in the experience, but it's VERY text-heavy so far - almost like an interactive storybook w/ tons of affectable outcomes - but despite my unyielding antipathy for game stories it's pretty neat. the diplomacy parts are pretty cool, though - very Civ Lite, and since I've always had a soft spot for Civ's diplomatic stuff it's a big win IMO. of course I really probably need to play through it a couple of times since I would imagine that the big hook is seeing how things play out through multiple gameplay iterations; thankfully I ride the bus in Los Angeles so time is something I'm hardly short on.
sux that there's no iPad version, though. they're supposedly going to release one later this month; I *really* hope that it's a universal upgrade rather than a

Bumpy Road is fun, but I haven't played a single iOS game worth even a buck. I honestly don't know how this is a gaming platform. There are a lot of predatory developers making crap. It's all crap.

A couple of simple, fun games I would highly recommend are Doodle Jump and Tiny Wings - both perfect games. Some others I've enjoyed a lot are Super Stickman Golf, Bit Pilot, FlickKick Football, Minotaur Rescue and Minotron.

(Although I think I played this on DS before, maybe as part of a multi-puzzle game? Can't quite remember. But it was definitely trickier then, I think maybe because it didn't have different lines in different colours).

― Beezow Doo Doo Zopittybop-Bop Bop (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 11 January 2012 05:28 (fourteen years ago)
Beating jetpack joyride means getting all the achievement things and starting again though, right? Not "going more than x metres". I kind of hated it but played it loads anyway, and now I kind of hate temple run but am playing that loads anyway.
Tried I Dig It too, it feels kind of unlosable once you know how it works (and you can work that out pretty much instantly). The first proper story mission dragged out over 3 separate 30 minute play sessions until I just got bored and gave up.

I saw someone on the train playing Grand Theft Auto 3, which astounded me - I had bought it and fired it up, and it's an amazing technical achievement and obviously the original is top 10 of all time so there was a massive Proustian rush and all, but the actual iPhone controls seemed to make it completely unplayable.

― Mordy, Monday, 6 February 2012 22:00 (fourteen years ago)
The usual, more or less – it's the style I prefer – more like Game Dev and Grand Prix Stories than mall/academy. Fairly easy and so many carry-overs, though, that it becomes a walkover at some point, and the matches are unskippable – tedious to sit through one 11-0 victory after another. But I got 2.5 fixated playthroughs out of it, so no complaints.

Really looking forward to getting off work and playing the just released iOS port of Eufloria (iPad only), which is sort of a cross between the ambient gaming of Osmos and the RTS genre:
"Eufloria is a game of space, conquest, and exploration based on themes of plant life and flowers rather than space marines and spaceships."
Graphically, it's stunning:
