cannot stand tower defense type games

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Friday, 26 August 2011 12:32 (fourteen years ago)

it's like yeah i know i'm wasting time playing games on my phone, but tower defense games really foreground the "busy-work" aspect of it

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Friday, 26 August 2011 12:33 (fourteen years ago)

My problem is I like to play tiny wings with spotify playing in the background, but it is damn near impossible.

Jeff, Friday, 26 August 2011 12:41 (fourteen years ago)

bejeweled 2 + swarm is free right now

polyphonic, Friday, 26 August 2011 18:56 (fourteen years ago)

You say that like it's a good thing.

Cass McCars (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 26 August 2011 19:26 (fourteen years ago)

Let's Golf 3 is pretty addictive but warning it is freemium so ymmv.

nb: I think my taste in games is pretty far removed from all y'all's

Puff Daddy, whoever the fuck you are. I am dissapoint. (Steve Shasta), Friday, 26 August 2011 19:51 (fourteen years ago)

Just downloaded some new games for the weekend:

Sprinkle (water physics puzzler)
Radballs (matching game with Totally '80s theme)
Spy Mouse (99c, iPhone non-universal, from the guys who made Flight Control)
Enviro-Bear 2000 (updated for iPad)
Edge EX (never played the original; iPad update)
Aralon HD (marked down to 99c)

polyphonic, Friday, 26 August 2011 20:01 (fourteen years ago)

Aralon was too buggy to play when I tried it originally, let us know if it's fixed and I might reinstall it.

JimD, Friday, 26 August 2011 21:19 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah I don't know about Aralon. It's sort of sad.

Radballs is very cool. It's like Bejeweled + Lumines + DJ Hero + a dog wearing sunglasses / riding a skateboard.

polyphonic, Saturday, 27 August 2011 00:49 (fourteen years ago)

had a good time playing Alchemy with my cousins the other day. done alone it might seem tedious (combining different elements to make ~300 new ones) but with five of us playing on our respective phones/pads/toouches and shouting out different combos, it was great.

FLIP FLOPPING HILL BILLY! (reddening), Saturday, 27 August 2011 08:24 (fourteen years ago)

All Big Fish games US$1. These games are the most awesome time-wasters and always beautifully rendered.

Autumn Almanac, Saturday, 3 September 2011 00:06 (fourteen years ago)

(mainly hidden object point & click)

Autumn Almanac, Saturday, 3 September 2011 00:07 (fourteen years ago)

I like those games, but I realized after buying like 15 of them that they release these all the damn time and if I didn't quit, I would give them all my money, bit by bit.

Jeff, Saturday, 3 September 2011 00:18 (fourteen years ago)

But if you're going to get just one, Drawn: The Painted Tower is still my favorite.

Jeff, Saturday, 3 September 2011 00:23 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah that one's great. Also I see what you mean about feeding them money like it's a god damned drip, I just impulse-bought 12 of them. For a buck I don't care, they're always worth it.

Autumn Almanac, Saturday, 3 September 2011 00:26 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, I'll probably get a dozen or so...

Jeff, Saturday, 3 September 2011 00:30 (fourteen years ago)

Clockwork Tower is another good one, nicely designed and reasonably long. I don't remember any being as artistically impressive as Drawn though.

Autumn Almanac, Saturday, 3 September 2011 00:32 (fourteen years ago)

Hmm, can't seem to find that one.

Jeff, Saturday, 3 September 2011 00:40 (fourteen years ago)

Lost in Time: The Clockwork Tower

Autumn Almanac, Saturday, 3 September 2011 00:50 (fourteen years ago)

Wait, they've changed it to free download with full game unlock and it's not discounted, bollocks.

Autumn Almanac, Saturday, 3 September 2011 00:51 (fourteen years ago)

Wait why can't I find either of those

The-Dreams That Money Can Buy (Stevie D(eux)), Saturday, 3 September 2011 01:58 (fourteen years ago)

Oh bcz they're IPAD

The-Dreams That Money Can Buy (Stevie D(eux)), Saturday, 3 September 2011 02:00 (fourteen years ago)

Sorry. There are some iphone-only and universal Big Fish games too though.

Autumn Almanac, Saturday, 3 September 2011 02:05 (fourteen years ago)

Oh bcz they're IPAD

yeah I just had the same frustrating realization

remembrance of schwings past (gbx), Saturday, 3 September 2011 02:19 (fourteen years ago)

Getting a surprising amount of pleasure out of Settlers on iPhone.

Also unknown as Zora (Surfing At Work), Wednesday, 19 October 2011 20:42 (fourteen years ago)

Downside of Scribblenauts is that it is very short.

google sluething so hard right now (forksclovetofu), Friday, 4 November 2011 14:26 (fourteen years ago)

what +what!

Mordy, Friday, 4 November 2011 14:27 (fourteen years ago)

Both from Touch Arcade:

"Simply put, Wizardry is just a hardcore game. Check it out on iOS, and you will find it is almost exactly like the PS3 version, with two small differences -- it's Game Center enabled, and the lovely detail of the art is more or less lost on the iPhone's tiny screen. I think the game would be much more enjoyable on the iPad if you chose to get it for a portable device, but if you had access to all options, PS3 would be the way to go. It's clear lots of attention and effort was put into the art, and it's a shame to see it all tiny and squished up on a little screen."

"Greed Corp is a turn-based strategy game that encourages players to engage in something one step shy of mutually assured destruction. You destroy the lands you harvest, and firing on your enemies crumbles away the ground beneath them. You win as long as you have at least a single unit on a single hex and your enemies don't. This brutally aggressive game first made its debut on Xbox Live Arcade and the Playstation Network in the early months of 2010, but it's hardly aged in the time it's taken to arrive on iPad. It's also extremely well done for the most part, offering a natural touch interface and both single and multiplayer content."
