wow the reviews seem really split between great and awful

hardcore oatmeal (Jordan), Wednesday, 27 July 2011 15:47 (fourteen years ago)

for what? From Dust?

Mordy, Wednesday, 27 July 2011 16:02 (fourteen years ago)

yup. but they all mention the same things, so maybe it's just a matter of how annoyed you get by bad a.i.

hardcore oatmeal (Jordan), Wednesday, 27 July 2011 16:04 (fourteen years ago)

when i'm killing them, not so annoyed. when they're killing my party members, very annoyed.

Mordy, Wednesday, 27 July 2011 17:12 (fourteen years ago)

Catherine demo was pretty weird.

It's like Indigo Prophecy meets Q*Bert?

polyphonic, Sunday, 31 July 2011 02:08 (fourteen years ago)

well put!

generous doler out of lollies (forksclovetofu), Sunday, 31 July 2011 15:34 (fourteen years ago)

i agree except i enjoy qbert

I dream of vodka sandwich (jjjusten), Sunday, 31 July 2011 22:02 (fourteen years ago)

man, i gotta play that demo

Nhex, Sunday, 31 July 2011 22:08 (fourteen years ago)

tried from dust again last night, it just feels buggy as hell. i finally got a little dude to touch the totem and walk back before the tsunami hit, but right before he got to the village he started walking across the ocean (!), stranded himself on a little island, and then wanted my help to get back. :/

hardcore oatmeal (Jordan), Thursday, 4 August 2011 17:52 (fourteen years ago)

it looks a little like black and white 2011?

I'm a nerd and nerdy things happened (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 4 August 2011 18:31 (fourteen years ago)

remember the game populous? is it like that?

goole, Thursday, 4 August 2011 18:39 (fourteen years ago)

I played through the From Dust demo. Didn't encounter any major issues but didn't like it enough to buy the game. Maybe when it's cheaper.

Basically you move dirt around to divert water sources and create land bridges, to help your little crew of tribespeople move from one totem to another. It seems a little lacking in depth. Also I think I'd rather just play Lemmings.

polyphonic, Thursday, 4 August 2011 18:40 (fourteen years ago)

yup, this recent lemmings clone was way more enjoyable than from dust: http://armorgames.com/play/11652/dibbles-for-the-greater-good

Oh hey, it's this thread. I'm Doc_Roswell or docroswell or maybe I should log in to see what my gamertag actually is (though my son uses the xbox more than I do, but that may change with the release of SPACE MARINE.)

Matt M., Friday, 5 August 2011 00:07 (fourteen years ago)

Doc Roswell minus the underscore thingy. I used to play too much ROCK BAND. Currently downloading KILL TEAM because I'm an oldschool 40K geek.

Exciting new Kinect game:

sweet

Nhex, Monday, 15 August 2011 01:39 (fourteen years ago)

the rental tour van had a 360 in it so on the first day of tour I stopped in a gamestop and grabbed a couple used games & then was in the van every day for a couple of weeks & then after tour I was unceremoniously returned to the house with two games & no console to play them on, and that is how I came to be the owner of a new 360 last week

I'm kinda long in the tooth and don't play online yet - I have to confess that multi-player gaming has almost never been my thing. I know that's a big part of the appeal for a lot of xbox users but I basically just wanted to be able to play the new games that lol Wii doesn't get i.e. almost all the good games

pathos of the unwarranted encore (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Tuesday, 16 August 2011 17:10 (fourteen years ago)

you sound like a noob tbf. couldn't keep up with my leet stratz old man

in all seriousness tho, xbox live is a revelation. /the/ killer app of this generation for my money. don't know if you're maybe a bit too late to ~get into it~ at this point tho

definitely recommend trying it out if you can bag a free month's trial or w/e

do I hear 51, 51, 51... I'll give you 51, 51, 51 (cozen), Tuesday, 16 August 2011 17:15 (fourteen years ago)

I probably will at some point but idk, playing games is like an occasional thing for me - like I get really into a couple of games over a period of some months & then I'm doing other stuff for months at a time. I'm totally sure it's way fun but I am probably a little late for it, yeah

pathos of the unwarranted encore (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Tuesday, 16 August 2011 17:26 (fourteen years ago)

xbox live is a revelation.

I guess this makes sense if you like multiplayer, but for me xbox live is this weird extra expense that I get very little value from.

polyphonic, Tuesday, 16 August 2011 17:28 (fourteen years ago)

ditto. there was a minute when i was playing left 4 dead with friends online (lol single life), but since then i haven't used live at all. netflix is the only reason i'm paying for it, more or less.

hardcore oatmeal (Jordan), Tuesday, 16 August 2011 17:39 (fourteen years ago)

xbox live is like 99% streaming netflix and demos/downloadables to me, but this is changing now that the multiplayer coop of portal 2 sits angrily unplayed in its case.

I dream of vodka sandwich (jjjusten), Tuesday, 16 August 2011 17:40 (fourteen years ago)

I do netflix and demos on my PS3 now, for free.

polyphonic, Tuesday, 16 August 2011 21:09 (fourteen years ago)

ya but PS3... has no games

do I hear 51, 51, 51... I'll give you 51, 51, 51 (cozen), Tuesday, 16 August 2011 21:57 (fourteen years ago)

Yes it does!

polyphonic, Tuesday, 16 August 2011 22:00 (fourteen years ago)

three weeks pass...

The combat in El Shaddai is definitely on the shallow side, but man is this game cool and weird. The sidescrolling parts are gorgeous.

polyphonic, Monday, 12 September 2011 19:22 (fourteen years ago)

ok i want to buy some games for the weekend since the gf is out of town, and gamespot is doing buy 2 get third free so here are my options so far:

dead rising 2
dead space 2
fable III
metro 2033
shadows of the damned
other stuff i am forgetting

pretty much needs to be in the $30 and under category (shadows of the damned is $35 which is hurting its chances tbh). any thoughts peeps who have played these?

Scream, Fistula, Scream! (jjjusten), Thursday, 15 September 2011 18:41 (fourteen years ago)

dead rising 2 is great. i haven't played metro 2033 but i really want to -- post apocalyptic russian game w/ ammo bartering sounds very cool. fable 3 i didn't play but i got off the fable train with number 2 they're all so samey and kinda boring. dead space 2 i watched my friend play and it looks scarier and better designed than number 1 which was really good and which i greatly enjoyed playing.

Mordy, Thursday, 15 September 2011 18:45 (fourteen years ago)

if it were me i'd buy dead rising 2, metro 2033 and get dead space 2 free

Mordy, Thursday, 15 September 2011 18:45 (fourteen years ago)

Dead Space 2 is pretty much what you'd expect if you've played Dead Space. It's good but doesn't seem as engaging or atmospheric as the first one did. Worth having though.

Metro 2033 is super-atmospheric but i haven't got far with it yet. It's very tough and the weapons seem really underpowered but it's definitely something i'm going to go back to.

A little bit like Peter Crouch but with more mobility (ShariVari), Thursday, 15 September 2011 18:46 (fourteen years ago)

only one i've played is dead space 2, which accomplishes exactly what you think it will, but metro 2033 and shadows of the damned seem more like jjj games.

xp ha

hardcore oatmeal (Jordan), Thursday, 15 September 2011 18:50 (fourteen years ago)

Definitely not Fable 3.

Fallout 3, Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age Origins, Resident Evil 5, Just Cause 2, and Left 4 Dead 2 are all under $30 if you happened to miss those before.

polyphonic, Thursday, 15 September 2011 18:51 (fourteen years ago)

as a dude who spends way too much money on games, i have all of those

lol at me

Scream, Fistula, Scream! (jjjusten), Thursday, 15 September 2011 18:53 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i kinda disliked fable 2 and figured that 3 would be more of the same, but some dumb part of me keeps trying to recapture that first time fable magic

Scream, Fistula, Scream! (jjjusten), Thursday, 15 September 2011 18:54 (fourteen years ago)

3 is much worse than 2.

polyphonic, Thursday, 15 September 2011 18:56 (fourteen years ago)

ah crap i also dont have need for speed: hot pursuit or mass effect 2

hmmmm

Scream, Fistula, Scream! (jjjusten), Thursday, 15 September 2011 18:56 (fourteen years ago)

ME2!!! Get that.

Mordy, Thursday, 15 September 2011 18:57 (fourteen years ago)

Mass Effect 2 is superb.

A little bit like Peter Crouch but with more mobility (ShariVari), Thursday, 15 September 2011 18:58 (fourteen years ago)

i have also considered the idea that from everything i read i could probably burn through shadows of the damned in a weekend and then go and swap it out for something else on the list

xpost is it a bad sign if i got really bored with mass effect 1 and quit somewhere around the cantina shootout thing

Scream, Fistula, Scream! (jjjusten), Thursday, 15 September 2011 18:59 (fourteen years ago)

yeah, i'd say if you didn't finish me1 don't bother with me2 since at least 90% of its punch is from situating the world within the context of the actions you took personally in the first game

Mordy, Thursday, 15 September 2011 19:05 (fourteen years ago)

ME2 is definitely better than ME1 though, especially if you don't care that they simplified the RPG elements.
