The world is actually pretty big!i just bought a year membership; perfectly happy to support this.a little worried cuz it looks like they're gonna reset everything once the beta ends and that makes me not wanna learn new skills?

make your own buns! spice from spice plants and flour from grain.
has anyone figured out the hairball miniaturization thing?
― Mordy, Wednesday, 13 July 2011 15:19 (twelve years ago) link

Where can I buy the knife and board? I am up on top of the mtn which is mining country.
― Euler, Wednesday, 13 July 2011 15:21 (twelve years ago) link
I got the teddy from miniaturization---got the shiny thing off the table.
I'm in - just did the shiny thing quest. Called myself 'Cindy Electronium' as I was thinking about Raymond Scott at the time, though I'm not so keen on that name now.

i'm involved in a new street project at patchi preech, but i'm too lameo to actually contribute anything
― remy bean, Wednesday, 13 July 2011 15:56 (twelve years ago) link
loving the whole skills thing. it reminds me of an old MOO-type game called Avalon where you had to learn all these different skills and they all had different proficiency levels
― Mordy, Wednesday, 13 July 2011 15:59 (twelve years ago) link
i don't know how you guys are completing this miniaturization thing. whenever i go i just walk around and there's nothing to interact with. just a sleeping cat to climb on top of, a shoe, and a table.
― Mordy, Wednesday, 13 July 2011 16:00 (twelve years ago) link
lol nevermind, i just found the hairball underneath the table!
― Mordy, Wednesday, 13 July 2011 16:01 (twelve years ago) link
what skill sets are you guys pursuing? i did the first two learning skills and am working on all the basic cooking stuff (saucery at the moment)

So where are these bureaucratic halls?

I think it was Gregarious Grange in Groddle Meadow. I'm having trouble finding any weedy patches to hoe for my achievement.
― emil.y, Wednesday, 13 July 2011 16:32 (twelve years ago) link
buy a house. they come with weedy patches.
― Mordy, Wednesday, 13 July 2011 16:52 (twelve years ago) link
I'm not sure I can afford that, even if I knew how. I can barely scrape together the cash for a bigger bag.

― sonderangerbot, Wednesday, 13 July 2011 22:02 (twelve years ago) link
get some papers. really, the skills you choose determine what you're doing in the game. each skill creates a new quest to fulfill, and the further down the skillline you get, the more complicated/complex the quests.
on a related note: Mordy's Pot Brownies + Eggs Restaurant will soon be open for business. I'm pretty sure I decided to become a cook entirely because of the name of the giant associated with it.

as you level up your skills, your efficiency collecting levels up as well. i harvest 12 eggs each turn, atm
― remy bean, Thursday, 14 July 2011 02:54 (twelve years ago) link
So can you level every skill or are you at some point "committed" to a given profession a la wow

740 kids
― Nhex, Thursday, 14 July 2011 03:48 (twelve years ago) link
you can level up every skill as far as i know but at some point it becomes impractical, and your time is better spent in the pursuit of one or another, i.e. alchemy or making crudites or tending your wanton flock of porcine wonders, all of whom are named Chad.

So, how much of a timesuck is this? I don't have much free time or (probably) the willpower not to spend time which shouldn't be free on it if I sign up, but it sounds pretty intriguing.

from the FT’s “six businesses finding an upside in the pandemic”Discord is the kind of app that would normally drive teachers crazy. A gaming-focused way to chat using text, voice and video, it already had 300m registered users and tens of millions of daily users before the pandemic hit. Then in March, just as Zoom was taking over the corporate videoconferencing world, Discord found an unlikely new role as a home schooling aid.In France, state-provided online education tools struggled as traffic surged in the early days of the lockdown. Discord was able to handle the influx of users much better, making it a de facto alternative for many teachers.According to App Annie, which tracks app stores, Discord jumped into the top 10 most downloaded iPhone apps in France during March, with similar growth in Spain and Germany.By mid-May, it remains in the top 50 mobile apps overall in the US and several European countries, in many cases ranking above more established rivals such as Skype, Twitch and Google Meet. That is no mean feat for a five-year-old start-up. Like Slack, the business messaging app that began as a side project of a video game called Glitch, Discord’s founders Jason Citron and Stanislav Vishnevskiy started out building a games development studio, Hammer & Chisel, before moving into messaging. The business has raised about $280m in private financing so far and is said to be in talks to raise new funds at a valuation that could exceed $3bn.It is also racing to update its product to capitalise on the new demand beyond its core audience. In March, it increased the number of people who could watch a “Go Live” broadcast from 10 to 50, making it more useful for teachers.
