I've never had an email during this whole saga. I'm wondering if I opted out of their marketing crap a long time ago and whether doing so also cut me out of important emails like YOUR CREDIT CARD HAS BEEN HACKED

the only way i managed to get access to the Welcome Back games was by going to Account Info in the XBMC, then like "Service Detail" or something and choosing "Sony Promos"

I chose inFamous as my first free game and wowee, maybe I need to buy more games like this. I thought I had spent two hours playing last night and it ended up being closer to 4ish.
― mh, Wednesday, 15 June 2011 20:39 (fifteen years ago)
it's a really fun game. I tried Prototype after I beat inFamous, hoping for a similar experience, but it got old fast. I do recommend Just Cause 2 if you haven't played it, though. it's a little bloated (I never did get around to beating it) but it is pretty damn fun once you get the hang of your abilities.
― rockapads, Wednesday, 15 June 2011 22:14 (fifteen years ago)
I looooooooved Prototype and was bored by Infamous but that seems to be a challopy opinion I guess.
― polyphonic, Wednesday, 15 June 2011 22:14 (fifteen years ago)
it's not challopy; i don't know that there is a consensus or anything. inFamous was simpler, less open world than Prototype, and much less complicated.
for some reason I took a break from Prototype about halfway through the game, and when tried to come back to it a few weeks later I couldn't remember how to do anything. There was no way I was gonna start the game over again, but the enemies were way too hard for me to do anything. If they do a sequel and the reviews say the graphics are better and the controls/abilities have been streamlined, I'll buy it for sure.
― rockapads, Wednesday, 15 June 2011 22:38 (fifteen years ago)
I just found the gameplay completely exhilarating. I will grant that the story and gameworld are boring as hell.
― polyphonic, Wednesday, 15 June 2011 22:51 (fifteen years ago)
is Dead Nation any good? I have the choice between that and Super Stardust as my second free game.
― peter in montreal, Thursday, 16 June 2011 13:19 (fifteen years ago)
Dunno, but Super Stardust is pretty fun.
― polyphonic, Thursday, 16 June 2011 16:31 (fifteen years ago)

No but http://code.google.com/p/ps3mediaserver/
― JimD, Sunday, 19 June 2011 22:42 (fifteen years ago)
ok i will try it ... actually i have it installed in ubuntu already, didn't work so well when i tried it before but that was when i was still using my crappy wifi signal, have switched to powerline now. (curiously though that means my xbox can no longer see my pc at all.)
― i love the smell of facepalm in the morning (ledge), Sunday, 19 June 2011 22:48 (fifteen years ago)
no joy, but the only film it's affected so far is step brothers so hey. ps3 media server a bit weird with subtitles though.
― ledge, Thursday, 23 June 2011 16:53 (fifteen years ago)
Does PS3 Media Server share video to the 360?
― Nhex, Thursday, 23 June 2011 19:40 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah, shares to pretty much anything, you just sometimes need to tweak it's cfg files (eg I made one to get it to transcode and stream everything to the dlna streamer built into my tv, but it took half a hour of fiddling).
― JimD, Thursday, 23 June 2011 19:49 (fifteen years ago)
will try, cool
― Nhex, Thursday, 23 June 2011 19:50 (fifteen years ago)
Oops -- I didn't actually download the first free game in the Welcome Back package, and now I can't access it to select and download the game! >=(
― Matt Groening's Cousin (Leee), Monday, 27 June 2011 04:07 (fifteen years ago)
I had the same problem; the solution is here (I haven't tested it yet)
Q: I no longer have the option to choose my free Welcome Back games. What can I do? A: If you navigate away from the Welcome Back section of the store without choosing your free games or exit the store completely you may need to follow the below in order to choose and download your free games. On your PlayStation 3 or PlayStation Portable navigate to the PlayStation Network icon on the XMBLog into your PlayStation Network account and choose Account Management > Transaction Management > Services ListChoose “PlayStation Network Promotions” from the list of services displayedSelect either “PS3 Free Games” or “PSP Free Games” and then choose “Select Content”You will be taken to the store to choose your remaining free games.

Thanks badg, I'll try that when I get a chance!

IS THAT SO WRONG

Wait, there's a.... is this a download? Why did I just get to work if there is such a thing?
― mh, Thursday, 7 July 2011 13:42 (fourteen years ago)
Oh, there isn't, it's just a wish. Yes, please make that title.

I had the same elation/deflation spike
― DJP, Thursday, 7 July 2011 14:34 (fourteen years ago)
seriously though, this should already be a thing
― brooklyn's complicated relationship with bacon (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 7 July 2011 14:56 (fourteen years ago)
It corresponds with the deflation/elation spike you got the first time you played Bushido Blade.
"This game looks really simple, I'm going to... what the hell, that guy stabbed me and it's over already? Is this a joke?"
Cut to ten minutes later when you've decided it's the greatest game ever
― mh, Thursday, 7 July 2011 15:04 (fourteen years ago)
i used to love playing ten minute cat and mouse games with my roommates
― brooklyn's complicated relationship with bacon (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 7 July 2011 15:41 (fourteen years ago)
that is still the greatest fighting game ever created
― DJP, Thursday, 7 July 2011 15:42 (fourteen years ago)
fwiw, the PS3 can still play PS1 games! They were dicks and cut most of the ability to play PS2 games on the newer console models, but people forget that PS1 games are still a-ok
― mh, Thursday, 7 July 2011 15:43 (fourteen years ago)
speaking as someone currently playing through FFVII again, I kind of don't want to play a non-HD Bushido Blade
also, FFVII is a very entertaining story but a TERRIBLE game
― DJP, Thursday, 7 July 2011 15:45 (fourteen years ago)
i have bushido blade as a PS1 disc and it is great. but it's uh... a bit long in the tooth
never got into BB2 for some reason, maybe i should try it again
― 40% chill and 100% negative (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 7 July 2011 15:48 (fourteen years ago)
BB2 at first seems like a let-down because they switched up the control scheme entirely
but then you get used to it and it's pretty damn good
― mh, Thursday, 7 July 2011 15:54 (fourteen years ago)
^^^ otm
― DJP, Thursday, 7 July 2011 15:55 (fourteen years ago)
i need to get it, then, is what i'm thinking

"We are always evaluating new programs for our online offering, and starting with Resistance 3 this September, we will be instituting a network pass program for PS3 games with online capabilities," the spokesperson said. "This program will be game-specific. Games that are a part of this program will include a single-use registration code that grants the account holder redeeming the code full online access for that title."
If you don't have a code to input, say if you purchase the game used, you'll have to buy one through the Store. It's unclear how much one of these PSN Pass codes will cost, however.
good job Sony, that will kill the resale/trade-in values huh
― zappi, Sunday, 10 July 2011 19:59 (fourteen years ago)
Seems like a lot of games are doing this now - Mortal Kombat has it, EA was doing similar stuff for the Mass Effect games. Pretty crappy, and I think they usually price it at $10 specifically to combat the difference from a $5 used Gamestop copy.
― Nhex, Monday, 11 July 2011 01:28 (fourteen years ago)
i wish they'd just be fucking honest about it and be like "yeah we don't want you buying the game used cheaper the day after it releases so we've concocted a half assed scheme to screw this other business, that's what the world is like"instead we get "evaluating new programs for our online offerings" and IDENTITY THEFT
― brooklyn's complicated relationship with bacon (forksclovetofu), Monday, 11 July 2011 02:44 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah it's kind of asinine because games, if they planned on selling 3 million copies, the online support should reflect that, because where a sale is used or new it's the same copy going online. They're just "missing out" on the second/third/fourth/ etc. sale of the same copy
Their bitterness about "losing sales" and equivocating Gamestop sales with piracy is pretty hard to sympathize with. They always hate resale value anyway, I think the only reasonable solution is lower prices enough where you don't care about resale but will still buy new (ala Steam).
― Nhex, Monday, 11 July 2011 02:59 (fourteen years ago)
