Spider is the best iPhone game ever imo.
Final Fantasy just dropped to five bucks. Considering it.

I don't have any hardware to run it though.

Ditto that.
I'm playing Osmos at the moment, which is dreamy and... difficult.

I feel like I am missing something key about Spider because I find it really boring.
Final Fantasy/FFII are worth $5.

yeah spider is duuullllll.
*still* playing trainyard, 2 bonus levels to go, the penultimate one is killing me. been stuck on it for over two weeks.

Oh, oh oh oh. Oh. Spider is *not* dull. Spider is an afternoon spent in an abandoned house, poking through the things the owners left behind, trying to work out what happened to them. The bug-catching is a v. original mechanic for delivering the narrative, and getting really good at it is pretty satisfying, imo, but Spider is really all about the secrets, the puzzles, the story.

WINtA is free, and is by Masaya Matsuura. Haven't tried it yet, got to be worth a go though.

Wow, winta load times are a total joke. Plus it only comes w 1 song and each addtl is 99c

I lost all my trainyard progress when my phone was stolen, and I can't bear to go through it all again...
― schwantz, Tuesday, 21 December 2010 17:01 (fifteen years ago)
I got stuck on two Trainyard puzzles a long time ago and gave up, but it was fun while it lasted.

Dudes on the train to the airport and the flight here were playing Angry Birds. I'm still suck on the Christmas levels.

Much like how people wondered why Wii users were blowing $200 bucks on a console to play old games on it, we have yet another jrpg tidbit:

Game Dev Story is on sale!! But... I have so many games to finish before I even think about starting another one... should I/shouldn't I?

You should
― Mordy, Wednesday, 22 December 2010 22:43 (fifteen years ago)
Okay now at the last two levels of Trainyard (Cooksville Creek and Machine Gun) and like omg jeez WTF. I can't wrap my brain aroub all of these switches I'm going to have to make. Idk why I can't just have leftover trains runnin around if all te stations have been filled :/
― cowboy bibimbap (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 23 December 2010 05:28 (fifteen years ago)
Like ive got most of Cooksville down but the fact that I'm going to have to have the final two trains merge and go into the last station is just like GGAAHHH
― cowboy bibimbap (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 23 December 2010 05:30 (fifteen years ago)
I can't do A Barrel Roll or Clown Car either.
This game was great for the spell between too easy and too difficult, but that didn't last all that long.
― if, Thursday, 23 December 2010 08:14 (fifteen years ago)
barrel roll was a struggle, i remember. clown car is a thing of beauty when it works tho.
― e.g. delete via naivete (ledge), Thursday, 23 December 2010 09:30 (fifteen years ago)
... i didn't have the update with cooksville creek, just got it and all the bonus levels have disappeared wtf? will they come back when i get 100% again? will i still have my solutions? i do all that again ;_;
― e.g. delete via naivete (ledge), Thursday, 23 December 2010 09:33 (fifteen years ago)
my update says "You won't see the bonus puzzles until you solve Cooksville Creek in Niagara Falls, and then you'll get the bonus puzzles back"
― dayo, Thursday, 23 December 2010 10:12 (fifteen years ago)
i do all that again ;_;
missing a "can't".
we will see. cooksville might take a while.

Trainyard was on sale for $.99 last night & I finally picked it up---had enjoyed the demo for a while.
― Euler, Thursday, 23 December 2010 12:46 (fifteen years ago)
you could be barking up the wrong tree. i've got two spots to fill and two trains left over, no merging - i just can't send them in the right direction.
― e.g. delete via naivete (ledge), Thursday, 23 December 2010 14:03 (fifteen years ago)
Oh yeah I scrapped the whole thing and then figured it out. I was initially sending the train straight to the splitter at the bottom and then sending the left train to the left solitudes and right train to the right. But no more!
― cowboy bibimbap (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 23 December 2010 16:08 (fifteen years ago)
o no that's what i'm doing!
― e.g. delete via naivete (ledge), Thursday, 23 December 2010 16:12 (fifteen years ago)
start over #3
Uh I meant splitters not solitudes. Do you want a vague hint?
― cowboy bibimbap (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 23 December 2010 16:45 (fifteen years ago)
I'm still stuck on the second to last section. Nice to see that everyone else is past that. :(
In other news I am really enjoying Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit for the iPad.
― I Am Kurious Assange (polyphonic), Thursday, 23 December 2010 17:31 (fifteen years ago)
is cooksville a bonus puzzle area?
― kanellos (gbx), Thursday, 23 December 2010 18:36 (fifteen years ago)
Angry Birds update with 15 'frontier' levels. Sounds like an American western theme. I doubt they fixed the performance problems that make the game unplayable.
― The breads are OK but the the crumpet freaks me out (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 23 December 2010 20:04 (fifteen years ago)
Nah, normal levels, was included in a recent update. Just solved it, and got my bonus levels back, except the one I was stuck on (indusblue iirc) has vanished.

I have SimCity Deluxe and for some reason I cannot lay out powerlines. It lets me set down a powerplant but the button for lines remains greyed out. WHICH MEANS I CANT START A CITY. Is there a fucking bug in the thing?
― Strange Crüt (Trayce), Wednesday, 29 December 2010 01:18 (fifteen years ago)
I tried playing that SimCity a bit and was like ugh, I need a mouse.

I am deep into Puzzle Quest 2. It's great on the iPad and decent enough on the iPhone.

Apple are doing the "12 days of christmas" daily freebie thing again this year (at least in the UK), so far it's been rubbish but today's is Fishing Kings which is maybe fun if you like fishing games.
― JimD, Wednesday, 29 December 2010 16:49 (fifteen years ago)
We probably need another thread for this, but how much gametime or content does a game have to rate you feeling satisfied that your money's well-spent? Most of these titles have a runtime of a few hours, is that worth your shillings?
I say this because there are, as mentioned upthread, plenty of titles that are only a buck or a pound yet still feel like wasteful shovelware.
My thoughts: Angry Birds(last for DAYS, more content continuously) = hell yeahGameDev Story(very definite plateau, crack for hours) = hell yeah, cost only a pint of beer
Does it fall into different categories like if its a ninety-nine center or not?
What about when you start hitting the iphone-equivalent of a AAA title that runs more? Carcasonne/GTA:Liberty City Stories is ten bucks, Aralon with God knows how much content and giving you an Oblivian-like experience on a smartphone for God's sake for seven bucks, all the Square-Enix games, etc.
― Crazed Mister Handy (kingfish), Wednesday, 29 December 2010 17:21 (fifteen years ago)
For me, considering the limitations of the media (the small screen, the never really perfect control mechanics) I'm not willing to pay $10 for a game, even if it otherwise has the same amount of content as a 360 game that I'd spend much more for.
― Mordy, Wednesday, 29 December 2010 17:33 (fifteen years ago)
I was willing to pay 10$ for Carcassonne and Scrabble because I knew that I would play them basically for the rest of my life, considering I already play the board games. It was like buying knives for the kitchen or something. I know I'm never going to get sick of them and they both play very well on the iPad.
I paid 10$ for World of Goo because I have been wanting to play that game forever and the iPad seemed like a good way to play it. But for the most part I am not willing to shell out more than a buck or two for casual games, and usually am more than happy to just dick around with the lite version for free.
