They really did do a good job. Especially the bit later on about Saul being the hero of the New York Team in Little League Baseball (itself a relatively obscure reference). Saul was always my second favorite (slugger Ward was my guy) but in retrospect he really was the best overall player on the team, since iirc he was also the star pitcher in addition to being a great hitter.
Anyway, prettu sure that it's really the author whose memories are predominantly Nintendo related
