half of the girls I know (and some gay dudes) keep telling me that this game is destroying their relationships.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 20:57 (nineteen years ago)

my friend that's playing it has basically split up with his gf over wow.

penny arcade: how do the writers/artists find the time to be that unfunny?

Persecuted Decals (ex machina), Thursday, 22 June 2006 20:59 (nineteen years ago)

Haha, I actually thought that one was quite good. But then, I've never played WoW.

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Thursday, 22 June 2006 21:50 (nineteen years ago)

it's just like a torrent system, i thought.

jeffrey (johnson), Thursday, 22 June 2006 23:12 (nineteen years ago)

You're missing jon's point, which is that Penny Arcade has been proven by science to be unfunny. To jon.

four weeks pass...
How do I shot update? Come on lads, what's happening? Who's winning if such a thing is possible in WoW?!

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Friday, 21 July 2006 09:08 (nineteen years ago)

hahahaha

Currently my warrior is lvl 60 and languishing from neglect because I'm not really digging the endgame content/time commitment. My priest is 46 and my hunter is 29 and both are a buttload more fun to play.

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Friday, 21 July 2006 13:28 (nineteen years ago)

I am totally sure what endgame content means but YaY! You've been not putting the time in? For shame. Is it possible to get pix of these characters?

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Friday, 21 July 2006 13:36 (nineteen years ago)

i am bored with my level 60 hunter, 40 men raids where i feel like i am making no impact at all and last for four or five hours aren't my idea of fun so i started working on a huge stable of alts. i'm really enjoying shamans and druids, seem to play really differently from the other classes. The Gates of Ahn'Qiraj opened yesterday on my server. Lag ensued. Also 100 foot tall egyptian god type things. fun.

Dxy (Danny), Sunday, 23 July 2006 23:18 (nineteen years ago)

100 foot tall egyptian god type things sounds like the greatest things ever! How do you find time for all the alts (alternative characters yes?)? Do you get email updates?

I also wondered: can your character die or does it just level down? Can your character be attacked if your offline or do you just disappear?

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Monday, 24 July 2006 10:02 (nineteen years ago)

You disappear if you're offline. Also you die all the time but you can resurrect with minimal penalties (ie, your gear gets beat up and you have to pay to get it repaired).

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Monday, 24 July 2006 12:57 (nineteen years ago)

Ah right, so can you log out but still have your character travel to a point or do you have to be online for them to move from a to b. IF so, no wonder people lose so much time.

Are workshops hard to find? Would there be a risk that when you're killed your attacker can grab your gear?

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 09:22 (nineteen years ago)

You can't travel while you're logged off. Logging off effectively removes you completely from the world and you come back in the spot where you last were.

People can't loot your gear when you get killed like they could in other online games.

If by "workshops" you mean "someone to fix your gear", it's usually pretty easy; any NPC selling armor or weapons can also fix your gear, plus if you take the engineering profession you can eventually make a repair robot that can fix your gear for you.

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 10:28 (nineteen years ago)

Your ghost will appear next to a Spirit Guide in the nearest town when you die - you have a choice of going to find your body (with the penalties involved) or being resurrected there and then, which means your armor takes another battering (though there's usually someone around to fix it) and you feel ill for ~10 minutes.

Also the penalties only apply to death by monsters/the environment. If you're killed by other players, your armor is fine (though if it happens too often, there's a delay in resurrection). This is due to the dedicated PvP areas being a bit of a killathon, as you'd imagine.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 11:24 (nineteen years ago)

The rez penalty gets applied regardless of who killed you, though.

Should we go into classes/professions or just link wowwiki?

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 12:50 (nineteen years ago)

God no! Thanks for all the answers. I was only curious about travel and what happened when you died. Now all I want are images of things in the game that allow me to imagine this all! GIS be damned, it can't beat people who play the game trying to convince me how great it is/was!

100 foot tall egyptian things a must :) but I'll GIS those for now.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 13:25 (nineteen years ago)

The rez penalty gets applied regardless of who killed you, though.

It's been a while, but I thought you didn't get rez sickness in Battlegrounds, which is what I meant to say.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 14:51 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, battlegrounds are different, yes; as far as world PvP is concerned, you still get TEH SICKIES.

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 16:57 (nineteen years ago)

Needle back in vein now - my old Horde guild managed (by dint of not splitting up) to become the biggest on the server in the year that I've been gone. They're having a recruitment drive "We're looking for 1 hunter and 2 warlocks, must be lvl 60, equipment up to Blackwing Lair spec", so it should be amusing to get in as a lvl 6 druid.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 28 July 2006 14:13 (nineteen years ago)

anyone on malfurion by any chance?

Jessie the Monster (scarymonsterrr), Friday, 28 July 2006 23:31 (nineteen years ago)

I'm on Blackwing (Alliance), Suramar (Alliance), Elune (Alliance & Horde) and Dunemaul (Horde).

roffle

Since I last posted, one of our managers and the director of my group have started playing on my main server (which is DEATHwing, not BLACKwing, I don't know what I was thinking upthread).

I don't play WoW, but my dad does, and this is his tale of discovering an 11 year old player in the midst of his guild:

'There had been this one guy everybody thought might have been a younger guy, and in the middle of this raid that was going all kinds of wrong, all these guys were posting "SHIT" and "DAMNIT", except this one kid, who basically outed himself as an 11 yr old the moment he yelled "FISH PASTE".'

(I imagine that will be a lot less funny to those of you who have never watched Spongebob. Whatever.)

You swine! Andrew: Get on to the WoW authorities and have Darramouss removed.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Thursday, 14 September 2006 10:12 (nineteen years ago)

Also that Nickalicious story I found rather sweet.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Thursday, 14 September 2006 10:13 (nineteen years ago)

Haha me and WoW are one the outs again. My guild did have another Irishman, off of whom I learnt "I wouldn't get up on you to get over a wall", so it wasn't time entirely wasted.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 14 September 2006 11:21 (nineteen years ago)

I am totally giong to start shouting "FISH PASTE" as my curse of choice.

Young Fresh Danny D (Dan Perry), Thursday, 14 September 2006 14:36 (nineteen years ago)

It does sound filthy somehow...

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Thursday, 14 September 2006 14:48 (nineteen years ago)

Not that that would explain why you like it or anything... Um...

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Thursday, 14 September 2006 14:48 (nineteen years ago)

I think that would explain PRECISELY why I like it!

Young Fresh Danny D (Dan Perry), Thursday, 14 September 2006 15:03 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, that makes sense: Where the Fishpaste at?!!!
