fwiw, some buddies of mine were talking about doing this very thing---we're all gonna be gnomes

BIG MUFFIN (gbx), Thursday, 18 November 2010 19:16 (fifteen years ago)

i actually started mine already :-/

BIG MUFFIN (gbx), Thursday, 18 November 2010 19:17 (fifteen years ago)

Heard a little about that, but can't remember any details, just forum QQ - "Blizz won't make good new content for WoW b/c the dece designers will be on the new game."

I will take my rouge to 85, p slowly, then maybe get my durid up.

portrait of velleity (woof), Thursday, 18 November 2010 19:19 (fifteen years ago)

still feel shame every time i boot this thing up

Not every time any more. Only when I imagine myself trying to explain it to others. Or when it makes me late for something (press lunch with gf at v nice restaurant two days ago. I mean yes, whoops, but those rifts in Thunder Bluff needed closing).

wld be into an ilxor casual guild, but the great atlantic divide would scupper me - I'm on the eu servers.

portrait of velleity (woof), Thursday, 18 November 2010 19:36 (fifteen years ago)

well, I've been in raiding guilds with ppl in Australia so I don't know if that's an actual barrier

ali-baba-boob-job-bomb.jpg (DJP), Thursday, 18 November 2010 19:43 (fifteen years ago)

I think maybe I'd need a US account (and hence fresh US copies of the games to associate with it) to play on the US servers. I went through a bit of this with an American friend a couple of years ago, but I'm not 100% I'm remembering correctly.

portrait of velleity (woof), Thursday, 18 November 2010 19:53 (fifteen years ago)

ah

well that sucks ;_;

ali-baba-boob-job-bomb.jpg (DJP), Thursday, 18 November 2010 19:54 (fifteen years ago)

i may give in when cata comes out and restart. feel like it'd be going back to heroin after kicking it for a year plus.

I would play my presit for sure. pewpew.

reckon you should stfu (bnw), Friday, 19 November 2010 00:33 (fifteen years ago)

oh dude, not to lure you in or anything but shadow DPS is pretty great right now

(granted this is from the perspective of someone who's mainly a healer with scrubby DPS alts who had enough currency to totally gear out his main's offspec, so maybe in conjunction with other DPS it isn't that great, but it's sort of amazing to kill non-elite 80 mobs in 1.5 seconds)

ali-baba-boob-job-bomb.jpg (DJP), Friday, 19 November 2010 13:18 (fifteen years ago)

two weeks pass...

been nice knowing you guys

maybe I'll see you all in March

BO (DJP), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 14:44 (fifteen years ago)

btw I think the idea of an ILX goblin guild is kind of hilarious, y/n?

BO (DJP), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 14:48 (fifteen years ago)

good luck. thought about taking the plunge back into WoW again myself but it's a scary place to live when you're eating/breathing/drinking WoW 24/7.

Mordy, Wednesday, 8 December 2010 14:48 (fifteen years ago)

well let me say this:

at level 80, you get a seahorse mount for underwater travel

BO (DJP), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 14:51 (fifteen years ago)

sort of unhappy about having to go underwater in the first place. Like no matter how many breathing and movement buffs and mounts you give me, I still think 'god underwater level whenwillitend whenwillitend'.

So yeah, I've headed for Hyjal instead - between that and rolling a Worgen there go my winter evenings.

portrait of velleity (woof), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 15:38 (fifteen years ago)

There is an entire quest line that is a parody of Jaws, though, down to the quest names; it's kind of great.

I got my priest to 82 and a worgen druid up to 13 yesterday; one of my friends described the goblin starting zone as "I didn't know if I was playing WoW or GTA" but I don't know how hyperbolic that statement was.

BO (DJP), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 15:45 (fifteen years ago)

Spent a couple of hours getting my main Rogue started on the trip to 85, & getting a new Worgen Rogue up and running. Cockney fishwife Worgen voices are a1, posh Worgen ok too; wolf form looks good, but not sure about the human models, fiddled with them for a while, kept ending up with variations on an Oliver Reed.

portrait of velleity (woof), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 16:00 (fifteen years ago)

I intentionally didn't try to make my worgen's human form look like me (for a change!) and ended up with a pretty bad-ass wolfman form, so I'm pleased about that. Their whole story line was a lot of fun to play (lol at Grandma Wahl, one of the best NPCs to pop up in a while) and yes, the Cockney fishwives are A+.

BO (DJP), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 16:07 (fifteen years ago)

holy shit guys i still dont have the patience to get a character past, say, level 20something

how much am i missing out on

kanellos (gbx), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 16:51 (fifteen years ago)

game doesn't start until 85

Mordy, Wednesday, 8 December 2010 16:54 (fifteen years ago)

for real?

i've kinda heard that suggested (it's "endgame" right?), but never really bought it

kanellos (gbx), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 16:55 (fifteen years ago)

^^^ I never believed this until I started actually seriously doing endgame dungeons

Even now, it's less "game doesn't start" and more "game becomes subtly different"

BO (DJP), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 16:55 (fifteen years ago)

Well, idk about 85 since I haven't played Cataclysm, but it was certainly true for me for levels 70 (Kara was really a game unto itself) and 80 (heroic dungeons and Naxx)

Mordy, Wednesday, 8 December 2010 16:57 (fifteen years ago)

huh. well then.

kanellos (gbx), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 16:58 (fifteen years ago)

I re-activated last night after not having played for a fairly long time. I have no idea how to play this anymore, which I am pretty excited about.

get off my lawn (rockapads), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 17:06 (fifteen years ago)

Things def change at max level. I enjoy levelling more than endgame tbh; I usually turn to the large scale PVP (Wintergrasp, AV), since I don't like hanging out in dungeons with random ppl (I'm unguilded; the one time I was in a guild, that's when the habit got really bad - scheduling my life so I could be in on a Friday to run instances, rather than just playing a bit when I happened to be in).

portrait of velleity (woof), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 17:12 (fifteen years ago)

(it's like the crack-habit-management gets a lot harder when you're letting down other people by not smoking all the crack you said you would)

portrait of velleity (woof), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 17:14 (fifteen years ago)

woof otm

Mordy, Wednesday, 8 December 2010 17:29 (fifteen years ago)

and that's why i can't play WoW anymore

Mordy, Wednesday, 8 December 2010 17:29 (fifteen years ago)

is it even possible to solo up to the endgame?

kanellos (gbx), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 17:32 (fifteen years ago)

(i know there's hella resources out there for WoW, i'm trying to avoid them, i don't want to turn into....well, you guys ;)

kanellos (gbx), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 17:33 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, unless you have friends to level up with you (and who promise only to play at the exact times that you're playing) you're going to pretty much be solo leveling up to the endgame

Mordy, Wednesday, 8 December 2010 17:33 (fifteen years ago)

so this is crack

kanellos (gbx), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 19:49 (fifteen years ago)

and apparently if i want access to all the stuff that cataclysm offers i have to buy all the prior expansions (which is nearly $100!). that seems....unlikely.

kanellos (gbx), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 19:50 (fifteen years ago)

Did they stop the big sale? As of two weeks ago, the original game + both xpacs was $50.

Indolence Mission (DJP), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 19:57 (fifteen years ago)

and yes, it is crack

Indolence Mission (DJP), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 19:58 (fifteen years ago)

oh god, i want the crack. plz tell me Cataclysm is awful.

Mordy, Tuesday, 21 December 2010 20:11 (fifteen years ago)

let me answer that with this:

Indolence Mission (DJP), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 20:12 (fifteen years ago)

I reactivated and decided to play with my enh shaman. Been having fun so far, though I don't really care for the storyline of this x-pac.

get off my lawn (rockapads), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 21:19 (fifteen years ago)

this actually reminds me, I keep meaning to go back through the Horde side of this at some point

from what I can tell, you guys got dicked over majorly (death of Caine, Garrosh's ascendancy, Sylvanis becoming more overtly evil)

Indolence Mission (DJP), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 22:26 (fifteen years ago)

oh god, i want the crack. plz tell me Cataclysm is awful.

It's not awful but I'm finding it annoying. Like they've taken stuff that was fun in small doses in Wrath and pushed it way too far - linear questing, 'epic' plot lines w/ cinematics, tons of phasing. They did narrative well in Wrath; I think the praise led them astray.

Also, a bit too much vehicle stuff. The novelty wore off in Wrath. Don't want to be a Naga with 4 abilities.

Also swimming.

It'll prob be a lot better once I've levelled.

from what I can tell, you guys got dicked over majorly (death of Caine, Garrosh's ascendancy, Sylvanis becoming more overtly evil)

I'm ok in principle with Blizz shaking up the comfy cosy honourable Horde, but yeah, it's sort of sad. Era of inclusive & managerial New Horde soft politics shifting into an aggressive, divisive & militarised government. I blame the Goblin financiers.

(New Orgrimmar great though, prob our biggest gain)

portrait of velleity (woof), Wednesday, 22 December 2010 14:43 (fifteen years ago)

The new instances are bad-ass, although I do swear that if I have to go through Halls of Origination one more time...

Also if you are playing a caster class and are not a healer, STOP ROLLING ON SPIRIT GEAR. IT NO LONGER GIVES YOU EXTRA BONUSES AND I ACTUALLY NEED IT TO REPLACE QUEST GREENS. GOD.

Indolence Mission (DJP), Wednesday, 22 December 2010 14:52 (fifteen years ago)

so basically as a hunter (lol) i shouldn't roll on anything that isn't agility/stamina, right? focus doesn't get recharged by any attributes as far as i can tell

kanellos (gbx), Wednesday, 22 December 2010 16:34 (fifteen years ago)

Haste makes you regen focus faster but I don't know that stacking it while levelling will work very well; you have to give up too much of the other stats to make it worthwhile.

Generally speaking, agility with hit/haste/crit is what you're looking for.

Indolence Mission (DJP), Wednesday, 22 December 2010 16:43 (fifteen years ago)

every time i think i'm wasting my life i always tell myself "well at least you're not playing wow" and i feel a little better
pouring out a lil likker for you guyz

forksclovetofu, Wednesday, 22 December 2010 17:01 (fifteen years ago)

cosign ^ but every time i think "well at least you're not playing wow" i also think "man, i kinda wish i was playing wow"

Mordy, Wednesday, 22 December 2010 17:24 (fifteen years ago)

two weeks pass...

y'all

a dude in my guild has suckered me into being on his arena team

argh, I'm doomed

Indolence Mission (DJP), Friday, 11 February 2011 14:33 (fifteen years ago)

also how come I didn't extol the virtues of Uldum

Uldum is bad-ass; I am still hoping they make the Katamari nod into a daily quest. (ditto the Joust nod in Hyjal)
