Ha Jeff, I asked the same question yesterday. Orbital, drop7 and Peggle are all ilx plays apparently. Have just gotten flight control, it is fun too. Too early to say if it is a most excellent game or just one that'll occupy me for more than a week but so far it's looking good.
― Jibe, Wednesday, 6 October 2010 13:32 (fifteen years ago)
I've certainly played other things than drop7 but nothing so addictive...Carcassonne is great, Connext is good, Civ Rev is surprisingly good, Virtual Pool is the best pool game ever, Home Run Battle is good quick fun, Spider - where you play a spider creating webs and eating insects is cool and the Monkey Island games are surprisingly great give the limited screen real estate.I was disappointed by Eliss, got bored of Peggle, found The Settlers lacking compared to the Amiga original and was rather confused by Space Invaders: Infinity Gene.

geoDefense is a fantastic tower defence game, played it 'til my fingers bled.

been playing beaucoup Strategery, first time in my life that Risk-like gameplay has been satisfying (if things go badly it's over fast, you don't have to clean up afterward, classique)

quick scan of my games folders for what I've been playing lately:
Solomon's Keep (basically a twin-stick Diablo)Sword of Fargoal (best roguelike on the platform)Wesnoth (kind of a clunky interface but the game is stupidly deep)Super Quick HookBackbreaker Football9 Innings 2011 (naturally)Word Ace & Blackjack AceScoops (especially since it's free)Pocket Frogs (ditto)PathPix (ever played Pic Pic for the DS? this is Drawing)Textropolis (word search game)Texting of the Bread
also every night before I go to sleep I ask God to let the folks who made the iPhone Carcassonne get the rights to Catan, because the current iOS version sucks the beef dart
― Ride decided to give birth to a giant poop log & disguise it as a CD (jamescobo), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 17:09 (fifteen years ago)
I played the iOS Catan a bunch when it came out & then lost attention, I think b/c the games take too long b/c of dumb interface choices. I don't want "snazzy" graphics effects for this game, I just want to get to my turn as quickly as possible.
gotta pick up Carcassonne soon.
― Euler, Wednesday, 6 October 2010 17:15 (fifteen years ago)
picked up carcassonne, don't get it, too lazy to go through tutorial
― stet, Wednesday, 6 October 2010 17:25 (fifteen years ago)
i tend to play carcassonne on solitaire way more than the actual game - it takes aaaaages though

tried the lite version of solomons keep from jamescobo list up there and really dig it - is it a tolerably long game or am i gonna get bummed out if i buy the full version?
― restorin' my damn eyes (jjjusten), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 18:53 (fifteen years ago)
it's pretty meaty - there's a couple of tiers of New Game+ to go through once you beat it once, and that's where you (apparently) get the super-sick loot. there's also an endless mode sold separately as Solomon's Boneyard if you want more.
― Ride decided to give birth to a giant poop log & disguise it as a CD (jamescobo), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 19:51 (fifteen years ago)
I really only play 9 Innings these days. So addictive.
― Mordy, Wednesday, 6 October 2010 19:55 (fifteen years ago)
I'd like some people to play carcassone against. Apparently it's going to get gamecentre enabled soon, which should help. Actually, do we have a gamecentre username sharing thing going on here yet? I'll start a thread.
― JimD, Thursday, 7 October 2010 10:26 (fifteen years ago)

Oh man soosiz is maybe the best iPod mariolike I've played, and it's free!
― MMLLLARRRFF (jjjusten), Sunday, 10 October 2010 23:06 (fifteen years ago)
slingo is so strange. it's not even fun and barely a game but still very playable.

Cut the Rope really is good.
― JimD, Saturday, 16 October 2010 10:21 (fifteen years ago)
it is OK but seriously, Game Dev Story is the most engrossing iPhone game I've played since 9 Innings. I played it for four and a half hours straight today.
― Ride decided to give birth to a giant poop log & disguise it as a CD (jamescobo), Sunday, 17 October 2010 04:35 (fifteen years ago)
JimD would love to play you in Carcossonne. My id is biznotic. Let me know yours and we will play.
Anyone playing Trainyard?
― brotherlovesdub, Sunday, 17 October 2010 04:42 (fifteen years ago)
gave Game Dev Story a try. ridiculously addictive.
― Mordy, Sunday, 17 October 2010 17:10 (fifteen years ago)
Playing trainyard but it hasn't clicked with me yet. Maybe once I get to the harder levels.
Ridiculously afraid to start game dev story.
― Jeff, Sunday, 17 October 2010 17:50 (fifteen years ago)
We should start a game dev story thread. Probably won't get a lot of time with it today because of football, but I can see it taking over my life.
― Mordy, Sunday, 17 October 2010 17:50 (fifteen years ago)
Is there a reliable emulator program for iphone games yet?
― Brick Frog! (forksclovetofu), Sunday, 17 October 2010 17:51 (fifteen years ago)
so far my company's biggest seller is a historical trivia game for the Game Boy called "Nazi Peeholes"

― peter pears architecture (c sharp major), Sunday, 17 October 2010 18:18 (fifteen years ago)
wow Game Story Dev is soooo addictive. So far my bestseller is a historical RPG for gameboy called "Gulag 2". My biggest bomb was a golf simulation called "Tiger's Sluts".
― sofatruck, Sunday, 17 October 2010 21:39 (fifteen years ago)
the Fun of Game Story Dev is quite high. I think we should work on increasing its Fun even further

Jesus, so addicting!
One question: how in the world do you switch someone's job to hardware engineer (you need at least one to build a console)? I've hired three separate people who have it listed as a skill, but when I use the job change item "hardware engineer" doesn't appear as an option…
― Z S, Monday, 18 October 2010 20:46 (fifteen years ago)
Wait, just food the answer online: you have to level up someone to level 5 in everything - coder, writer, designer, sound eng., director and producer. Nice of them to explain that!
― Z S, Monday, 18 October 2010 20:54 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah. Once you've done level 5 in engineering you can switch them to hacker too. A crew of a few level 5 hackers are just dominant.
― Mordy, Monday, 18 October 2010 21:34 (fifteen years ago)
I can't deal with how awesome this game sounds. But seriously, whoever designed the levels for Peggle Nights should be out of a fucking job.

how that
― george pimpton (s1ocki), Monday, 18 October 2010 21:40 (fifteen years ago)
They are p awful and mostly gimmicky; there are too many blocks and not enough pegs and it seems like most of the time they were just all HEY LET'S MAKE THESE COOL PATTERNS LOOK!!! with little or no regard as to how the level would actually play.

it's like come on devs, you gotta click "save as" every once in a while so you don't lose half your work if something crazy happens, WE'VE BEEN THROUGH THIS BEFORE
How the fuck can I upgrade my data center???
Latest game is a Junior High simulation called, It gets worse.

3 questions for youse guys:
1) I'm looking for something like the HotShots Golf! series and have trialed Let's Golf 2, is this the closest it gets? Seems very easy to master (I double eagled and holed-in-1).
2) I noticed someone big-upping 9 Innings but I trialed that and thought it was not as good as the goofier Baseball Superstars (I like not only arcade mode but player dev mode and manager modes). What am I missing with 9 Innings?
3) Is Katamari worth it?
― i love you but i have chosen snarkness (Steve Shasta), Tuesday, 19 October 2010 03:59 (fifteen years ago)
1. yes
2. the thing about 9 Innings is that it is perfectly designed to be playable at any moment in the day. baseball can be broken down into so many component parts which serve as gameplay milestones ("oh I'll just play one AB/inning/game/season/etc.") + brilliant virtual-d-pad-less portrait mode allowing for one-handed play (perfect for playing while standing on a bus/ducking out for a smoke/"oh man I just drew a platinum Albert Pujols" *frantic masturbation*) + controls streamlined to remove anything which isn't fun to control (fielding) while absolutely nailing everything else to within seven decimal places = a good excuse to play is never hard to find. then you get into building a team and then you get into card collecting and then all of a sudden it's seven AM three days later and you're still playing.
it is seriously my GOTY outright at this point. I must have played at least 20 hours of Baseball Superstars 2010 but 9 Innings is incomprehensibly great once you get into it.
3. no
