butt on face action

TOMBOT, Thursday, 13 November 2008 22:12 (seventeen years ago)

i think i'll finally get this today

man am i gonna have some BELIEFS 2 share w/u guys

ಥ﹏ಥ (cankles), Friday, 14 November 2008 09:38 (seventeen years ago)

i believe the falcons will make the playoffs, so that probably makes _2_

some dudenik (forksclovetofu), Friday, 14 November 2008 19:14 (seventeen years ago)

a coupla points for later elaboration

1. when you try to stack actions in a battle with several opponents (by several I mean >3 ha ha) the turn based nature of the battle system becomes a little bit frustrating. step outside your gambits with two of your characters and CONGRATULATIONS YOU HAVE FOUND THE EASTER EGG WHEREIN FINAL FANTASY DECIDES TO ACT LIKE WINDOWS AND SIT THERE FOR FIVE MINUTES WHILE IT THINKS ABOUT WHAT YOU JUST TOLD IT TO DO. Genuinely the most frustrating moment in a game I've had in a long, long, long fucking time. This is a fucking RPG. It should not present me with lag problems.

2. Do not attempt the pharos subterra just because you can kill pylraster. jesus fucking christ on a god damned popsicle stick those fucking toads and their little magical pony friends wiped me twice before I figured out lv66 just wasn't good enough. what in god's name.

3. The gun is good. I don't know if the penis is evil but the gun is good.

TOMBOT, Sunday, 16 November 2008 06:36 (seventeen years ago)

oh and 4. if you're going to put in some minigames, try to make the interface at least remotely approachable. the fishing and the footrace game in this are about as atrocious as the problem described in 1, above.

TOMBOT, Sunday, 16 November 2008 06:38 (seventeen years ago)

three months pass...

so i, uh, rented this tonight to help put up with my first week of laid off action.

kingfish, Monday, 9 March 2009 08:00 (seventeen years ago)

should help take the edge off.

ILM is a gross place full of coersion and sexual manipulation (forksclovetofu), Monday, 9 March 2009 20:28 (seventeen years ago)

The variety of accents in this game are great, i must say. far better variety than your bog-standard vancouver/l.a.-area sci-fi channel quality.

kingfish, Wednesday, 11 March 2009 02:13 (seventeen years ago)

also but fuck me is there a lot of Star Wars in this game, either directly or thru a co-mingling of sources

kingfish, Wednesday, 11 March 2009 02:20 (seventeen years ago)

Jeez, even the Han Solo character is a bit more of a dandy than one would otherwise hope for

kingfish, Wednesday, 11 March 2009 05:01 (seventeen years ago)

man, there is a FUCKTON of Star Wars in this

kingfish, Friday, 13 March 2009 01:30 (seventeen years ago)

two weeks pass...

Just played the first Dr Cid boss fight, and was struck by how good the fight music was.

Then i remembered that it sounds almost like the battle overture from Wrath of Khan, which was some of the greatest fight music evah.

kingfish, Tuesday, 31 March 2009 01:32 (seventeen years ago)

can't decide to get this for my new playstation 2 or not

pros:
it is cheap
i will enjoy it

cons:
i will spend lots of time on it
i will get angry at myself for enjoying at and spending lots of time on it

thomp, Tuesday, 31 March 2009 16:06 (seventeen years ago)

"new" ps2????? theres better games dude

sadness/crying (Lamp), Tuesday, 31 March 2009 16:17 (seventeen years ago)

altho reading this thread from the top im thinking maybe i never gave it a fair chance i remember thinking it was pointless in the worst way but maybe its worth replaying

sadness/crying (Lamp), Tuesday, 31 March 2009 16:36 (seventeen years ago)

i think shadow of the colossus is the only game that makes me miss my ps2.

meat of beef (Jordan), Tuesday, 31 March 2009 16:39 (seventeen years ago)

well i'm deeply loving persona 4 and want to line up another one of these jrpg nonsense games but can't decide if this is going to be horribly over-generic or not.

i have actually thought about buying ffx and ffx-2 as well but that would totally about scratching an itch i really ought not to bother with as opposed to playing games that are 'fun' or 'interesting' or that i 'enjoy'

thomp, Tuesday, 31 March 2009 17:41 (seventeen years ago)

i really really dug the combat in this game and the way that dungeons sorta "felt." a lot more like an MMO but instead of friends playing, you get peopel you cna program to not suck.

Brilli.am/writes (Will M.), Tuesday, 31 March 2009 19:23 (seventeen years ago)

bro, what?

sadness/crying (Lamp), Tuesday, 31 March 2009 20:44 (seventeen years ago)

I like how the talking cockatrices have really strong cockney accents.

kingfish, Tuesday, 31 March 2009 22:49 (seventeen years ago)

"i think shadow of the colossus is the only game that makes me miss my ps2."

same. one of the best games i've ever played. why isn't there a fucking sequel? /derail

ham hand (circa1916), Wednesday, 1 April 2009 10:10 (seventeen years ago)

80 hours in, jeesus

kingfish, Tuesday, 7 April 2009 09:40 (seventeen years ago)

It's a good time tho' right?

i'm warning you with peace and love but i have too much to do (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 12:00 (seventeen years ago)

Surprisingly, yes. The fact that each character doesn't have the usual jrpg single-weapon-class slot ilwas a great idea. I wish they had a more pcrpg way of tracking all the miniquests you get involved with

kingfish, Wednesday, 8 April 2009 07:28 (seventeen years ago)

I'm wondering if i'm going to be able to stick with this long enough to beat it. I'm at the 'tower on a distant shore' level.

kingfish, Friday, 10 April 2009 07:45 (seventeen years ago)

Just lower your head and finish.

1 week to "Charles Dingus" (forksclovetofu), Friday, 30 March 2012 20:10 (fourteen years ago)

man i still wanna play this

thomp, Friday, 30 March 2012 20:33 (fourteen years ago)

Carl Agatha needs to finish playing this. I enjoy watching her play it, although I think it would drive me crazy to play it.

Jeff, Friday, 30 March 2012 20:43 (fourteen years ago)

10hrs into final fantasy x and can't bring myself to stomach it any longer

never beat ff7, either. 30hrs and got sick of the whole thing. these games are fucking commitments.

kelpolaris, Saturday, 31 March 2012 04:19 (fourteen years ago)

on the commitment titch... i was just thinking today abt how in every one of those kinda games anyone who is ever in your party EVER at the end is ON YOUR TEAM 4 LIFE & how ridiculously COMMITTED all of these people who shouldn't be committed to SAVING THE WORLD are to saving the world -- where are the games where someone joins for a scene or an act or whatever? aside from saga series?

Alderaan Duran (Will M.), Monday, 2 April 2012 04:51 (fourteen years ago)

four years pass...

I've been playing the Zodiac Age edition on Switch and I'm mesmerized. I thought maybe all Final Fantasies after FF7 were complete trash but this one is really fun and engrossing.

trapped out the barndo (crüt), Monday, 12 October 2020 19:33 (five years ago)

9 and 10 are pretty beloved too! this one's more of a cult favorite

ciderpress, Monday, 12 October 2020 20:07 (five years ago)

ff8: card game, good
ff9: kinda regular ass fantasy, good
ff10: blitzball, good
ff10-2: dress sphere, good
ff11: bad mmo
ff12: awesome game
ff13, 13-2, 13-3 (didnt play 13-3): fal'cie, l'cie, bad
ff14: good mmo
ff15: AFI dudes, good

adam, Monday, 12 October 2020 20:14 (five years ago)

i think the few people who made it to 13-3 really liked it but its a character action game?

ciderpress, Monday, 12 October 2020 20:18 (five years ago)

13-3's soundtrack is incredible

I gave up on FFX, I kept getting mad at it for being stupid. I might pick it back up once I'm done with XII and VII (which I played before but never finished).

trapped out the barndo (crüt), Tuesday, 13 October 2020 03:33 (five years ago)

I might revisit 9 too but I dunno if the Switch version is any good?

trapped out the barndo (crüt), Tuesday, 13 October 2020 03:34 (five years ago)

which was the one that was more or less on rails? I really hated that one, bailed within a few hours

it bangs for thee (Simon H.), Tuesday, 13 October 2020 03:44 (five years ago)

13?

ciderpress, Tuesday, 13 October 2020 03:54 (five years ago)

10 seemed very railroaded to me but maybe i didn't get far enough into it

trapped out the barndo (crüt), Tuesday, 13 October 2020 04:37 (five years ago)

a lot of them are railroaded for the first half until you get the airship or w/e

ciderpress, Tuesday, 13 October 2020 12:40 (five years ago)

first half linear, second half open world / revisiting earlier areas with new purpose is a pretty standard rpg structure
