I thought I figured out the perfect strategy for drop7 and the first time I tried it I got like a 330,000 and I was like "yes!" but subsequent tries have ended in dismal failure so maybe I got lucky

getting a chain x16 was probably the most exhilarating moment of my life
― Dad Can Dance (LOLK), Monday, 9 August 2010 17:25 (fifteen years ago)
also these days i feel like i'm just trying to get rid of 6s and 1s
6's are so easy! my foolproof strategy was just to drop every token into columns less than the number but it doesn't work when you're 6 high and you're getting 2's and 1's all the time
― dyao, Monday, 9 August 2010 17:27 (fifteen years ago)
i'll have to give 'strategy' a try. i've just been relying on intuition/randomness at this point
dont you just hate it when youve somehow gotten some blanks sectioned off by 1s and you realize that there's nothing you can do to get rid of em?
| 1 1 1| x x 1| x x 1
― Dad Can Dance (LOLK), Monday, 9 August 2010 17:33 (fifteen years ago)
yeah that is pretty much impossible to get through and it happens all the time and it's the reason why I think the game is FLAWED and have devoted all my time to playing 9 innings 2011 (I will hunt you down and eat your children for recommending it, jamescobo)
― dyao, Monday, 9 August 2010 17:37 (fifteen years ago)
btw jamescobo how do you work this card collecting system out, like I've won several cards of players from other teams am I just supposed to stick them in my lineup without regard for the rules of how major league baseball actually works?
― dyao, Monday, 9 August 2010 18:00 (fifteen years ago)
Carcassonne's internet match thing is so cool.

hah I too have picked up the drop 7/9 innings addiction. I accidentally bought the first 9 innings game at first.. what a turd. =\

got a shitload of stuff lately:
- Babo Crash HD went free over the weekend so I said fuq it and grabbed it. if you can get past the branding, it's a pretty good ultra-casual match-3 clone; they included a shitton of powerups so that massive screen-clearing explosions happen all the time. also just think of all the "HOW IS BABBO FORMED" jokes you'll be able to make to yourself!
- TouchArcade flipped out over Fastar and it was only a buck so I gave it a shot. it's boring as hell.
- Pinball HD: a compilation of The Deep and those other 2 pinball games by the same developer w/ retina support & landscape mode. owns so far.
- Osu! - free Ouendan clone w/ a regularly-updated database of user-created tracks accessible from the app. I haven't gotten too into it yet since the lion's share of the songs available are shitty k-pop songs w/ tapping tracks for ultra-super-uber-mega pros, but to reiterate, FREE OUENDAN CLONE W/ A REGULARLY UPDATED DATABASE OF USER-CREATED TRACKS. for jailbreakers only, though.
- Osmos: fun but so very very overrated due to the slightness of the game. if you were one of those people who busted a massive nut over the Bit Generations games then you'll probably love this.
- TunesAttack: this was free and they've apparently already submitted an update to Apple to let them use the songs on your phone's hard drive so I'm waiting until all that happens to get into it. nothing special so far though.

there is a very real chance that this game will finish in my top 3 for the year. I play it SO FUCKING MUCH.
basically yeah; I guess if you want to be a stickler you could just keep leveling up your original cards, but my Tampa Bay team has zero of their original starting players/2 or 3 original pitchers at this point and I am LOVING LIFE (especially since I somehow managed to draw Ryan Howard and Steven Strasburg). I would have preferred a trading mechanic but oh well, the game's close enough to crack as it is.
also make sure you get the newest update; not only is there a massive make-good effort if you lost your first team in the 1.0.1 update, but it adds LANDSCAPE MODE (!!!)
― the Xbox 360 controller, which looks like a catamaran (jamescobo), Monday, 9 August 2010 23:15 (fifteen years ago)
hardcore drop7 is fun.. also helps hone skillz for normal
funny my top score name is 'ass' because I am mature

wow 9 innings is a lot of fun.
― Mordy, Tuesday, 10 August 2010 05:35 (fifteen years ago)
always play hardcore drop7, there is no other wayroot out 1s, never let un-blown-ups get above 4, cuz they could be 4s
damn slocki

4 ares really the most deadly
4s are, that is
So re 9 innings, the card situation is really confusing. Are you able to put your cards on your team? How? Or only certain ones? What good are they if you can't put them on your roster?
― Mordy, Tuesday, 10 August 2010 15:46 (fifteen years ago)
you go to the 'my cardbox', go to your team, select a card the hit 'change'
― dyao, Tuesday, 10 August 2010 17:24 (fifteen years ago)
I still dunno what all the percentage points do, or what they affect, or why my baseball team has cheerleaders
I thought it was really cute in the tutorial when they selected the teams for an exhibition game and the lady say "we will select the New York A and have them face Philadelphia just like in the 2009 finals"
Whew. Finally figured it out. It was driving me crazy. (Didn't realize you could flick up to see more players.)
― Mordy, Tuesday, 10 August 2010 17:32 (fifteen years ago)
wow the 2011 version looks incredible.. it's not available in the UK store though :(
i definitely get the feeling this game was produced in east asia, the english is a little wonky (it would also explain the cheerleaders)
― progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 09:35 (fifteen years ago)
yeah it's south korea i think? if you have a us based credit card you can open a us itunes account and buy it that way.
― dyao, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 11:44 (fifteen years ago)
if you have itunes accounts in two different countries, can you put apps from each of those accounts on the same iPod/iPhone? or do you have to choose just one account at a time for synching?
― Euler, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 11:59 (fifteen years ago)
You can put apps from both accounts on the phone. You can't switch between accounts on the phone though, so sometimes you have to update the apps via iTunes and in-app purchase can throw a mental
― stet, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 12:14 (fifteen years ago)
well i can wait if it'll come eventually, but i wonder if there's some kind of rights issue with the players association license and international sales

When will this game be released in other app stores around the world. I'm a big fan of the original game and I'm looking forward to playing the new version.Reply With Quote

this update went live. the game itself is kind of shitty and the song mapping seems really arbitrary but w/e, the price was right. totally worth it just to see how well the library integration works; whoever makes a good game out of this is going to be Doodle Jump dev rich.
also I want this rn plz (comes out next week but since when is the iphone about delaying gratification?)

i can't stop playing 9 innings either, even though it's the old version
however i'm being driven crazy with not knowing how "smart" the game is, so i wonder if half the game is in my head or what.. for instance, i'll throw a changeup that catches the outside corner for a strike. naturally my next move is to throw another change that's a little farther outside, trying to get the guy to bite. but does the CPU psychology really work that way? another example - i try to mix up pitch and location for each batter, i.e. never throw a first-pitch fastball to three batters in a row - they'll figure it out. but will they? how smart are they, actually?
i'm having a tough time in season mode - all my guys basically suck. (and with old 9 innings there are no cards to trade up to). i tear up the league in exhibition mode though.
