It looks like it has the appeal of a lot of Wii games - basically it gets played with great enthusiasm a few times at parties, then shoved into a closet for the rest of eternity. This in no way impacts its chances of success, though. Kinect doesn't look worth the money at all, but if I was going to get one I'd probably choose that game over most of the other options.

Man, so I was marathon sessioning Dragon's Age when Xbox Live went down. It claims it's up on the website, and my internet works perfectly, but my Xbox just won't connect to Live. At least DA doesn't really require Live to play.

so I'll get my 360 back later this week, after about 14 months away. This is a ~big~ question but have I missed anything great on 360 since then? I don't play FPSs. I guess rhythm games are last year's thing now? I'm pretty psyched to finally play Beatles Rock Band, and it looks like a million other rhythm games came out, which are probably cheap now. Any big suggestions for XBLA?
― Euler, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 04:40 (fifteen years ago)
Red Dead Redemption, obv.
― Mordy, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 04:41 (fifteen years ago)
yeah I may try that! I liked Bully a lot, didn't care much for GTA4 b/c getting from mission to mission was too tedious, but horse riding should reduce that aspect of it.
― Euler, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 04:43 (fifteen years ago)
Beatles Rock Band is amazing if you have friends who are willing to try to do the harmonies with you ... and pretty good even if you don't.
Shadow Complex, Trials, Limbo, Braid, and Geometry Wars 2 are some of the better xbla games.
― no turkey unless it's a club sandwich (polyphonic), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 05:14 (fifteen years ago)
I have Braid, but I think the others came out after I left, so I'm interested in checking them out.
Are extra microphones reasonably cheap? Because it would be fab to sing harmonies with my kids, but I'd have to buy the microphones to do this.
― Euler, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 05:20 (fifteen years ago)
There's this new game I can't remember the name of -- but it's apparently like Braid but based on silent movie themes? And the protagonist is a ridiculous villain with a greasy mustache or something?

If you can find a cheap copy of the game Lips it comes with two wireless mics that work great as second and third mics:

― F-Unit (Ste), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 09:04 (fifteen years ago)
wow, ok---prob. it's the kind of thing I should borrow from someone before buying, then. I still have Fallout 3 to start---got it in Dec 2008 but also got Bully & Saints Row 2 & played through those two before leaving my 360 behind, so I'll be playing catch-up on 360 for a while.
kinda excited about Assassin's Creed (2 I guess?) and Mass Effect though I dunno, time's limited & anyway I just seem to play DS puzzle games + Civ Rev on my iPod these days; not sure if I have room in my life for massive games right now.
― Euler, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 09:26 (fifteen years ago)
oh man, fallout 3 << one of the greatest games ever
― Mordy, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 09:33 (fifteen years ago)
assassin's creed 2 is great, I thought
I still have to get back to it though, along with bayonetta and dead space
― cozen, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 10:08 (fifteen years ago)
fallout 3 amazing, i still yet to finish it.
― F-Unit (Ste), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 10:56 (fifteen years ago)
No it isn't! You can warp whenever you want just by making a campfire!
― no turkey unless it's a club sandwich (polyphonic), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 16:39 (fifteen years ago)
or use the stagecoach which eventually becomes free )if you follow the righteous path). I got tired of long horse rides right around the time it became free. The scenery looks great everywhere and I didn't need to make any really long horse rides until near the end of the game anyways
― @( * O * )@ (CaptainLorax), Wednesday, 4 August 2010 05:55 (fifteen years ago)
you can't use the campsite nor the stagecoach in the missions tho, and a lot of missions involve you having to follow someone to a place. which takes aaaaaaaages.

does anyone subscribe to the xbox live/sky tv thing? i'm considering looking into it just to watch sports, not looked at prices yet.

xp I enjoyed listening to the banter during the mission horse trips. there are some destinations I wish I didn't get to so quickly or hadn't bumped into the person talking along the way because I wanted to finish hearing what they were talking about once we approached the destination. The dialog was a strong point of red dead redemption in my opinion.

how do i get my 360 control pad to work on my pc. it just picks it up as a "xbox 360 control device via recharge unit" and doesn't actually allow you to see it as a game pad. ?

it may be in catamaran mode

Ste - what kind of controller? If it's wireless, you need the usb dongle thing...http://www.amazon.co.uk/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000MGVAAQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1281797324&sr=8-1
plug that into your pc and sync the controller to the dongle.
If it's a wired controller, you should be able to just plug and play
― Jeff LeVine, Saturday, 14 August 2010 14:50 (fifteen years ago)
it's a wireless controller, but i have a usb cable that it can plug into the xbox with for recharging. or is that not an option on the pc, do i have to get that specific dongle?thanks
― F-Unit (Ste), Saturday, 14 August 2010 15:35 (fifteen years ago)
right - you need the dongle - you can't just plug it in with a usb cable - sucks. Dongle sucks too... if you sync the controller to your PC, you have to re-sync it to your xbox and vice versa every time you want to use it with one or the other. As a wired 360 controller is only a few pounds more, I recommend getting that instead of a dongle as it's much more convenient and you will like not having to deal with recharging batteries.
― Jeff LeVine, Saturday, 14 August 2010 16:25 (fifteen years ago)
thanks, that's pretty much what i've done - although opted for a non xbox type controller for five quid less.
