I am going to buy 12 months of X-Box Live.

I don't want to bother trying to hook my X-Box up to the internet

Not getting this.

JimD, Thursday, 1 July 2010 07:41 (fifteen years ago)

Just cancelled my xbox gold auto-renewal. Glad one can finally do this online, even though the way they have it set up is pretty confusing. It feels good to be free.

Jeff LeVine, Friday, 2 July 2010 06:34 (fifteen years ago)

two weeks pass...

Defense Grid, 400 Points
PB Winterbottom, 400 Points
Rocket Riot, 400 Points
Darwinia+, 800 Points
Chime, 240 Points
Poker Smash, 400 Points

tempted by defense grid, darwinia and chime; anyone got these?

any answers to these?? i'm feeling some arcade right now

also curious about limbo (revived that thread)
snoopy flying ace (seriously)
blacklight: tango down (a cheap shooter? i never to the mw2 map packs. nor bad company 2)

something else?

ultimate worrier (goole), Friday, 16 July 2010 19:29 (fifteen years ago)

snoopy flying ace (seriously)

fairly sure this is just ~average~. maybe best to wait for a sale on that one

hi I'm tyler farrar, quitter of team garmin-transitions (cozen), Friday, 16 July 2010 20:59 (fifteen years ago)

hmm oh well.

i'd love a simple little arcadey flight sim. if there was a CRIMSON SKIES ARCADE, i would buy it!

ultimate worrier (goole), Friday, 16 July 2010 21:02 (fifteen years ago)

isn't there a CRIMSON SKIES ON DEMAND up on arcade? the xbox version? nuh sure

hi I'm tyler farrar, quitter of team garmin-transitions (cozen), Friday, 16 July 2010 21:03 (fifteen years ago)

oh ha it looks like there is such a thing

xp lol

ultimate worrier (goole), Friday, 16 July 2010 21:03 (fifteen years ago)

just go out and buy h.a.w.x. for like $5 at a pawn shop imo

t( :D t) (jjjusten), Friday, 16 July 2010 21:04 (fifteen years ago)

consensus on the sale picks seems to be: defense grid is good even if you don't like td games; darwinia+ is good; and PB winterbottom is diet braid; and, chime and rocket riot are aight if you have some points hanging about your account doing nothing

hi I'm tyler farrar, quitter of team garmin-transitions (cozen), Friday, 16 July 2010 21:04 (fifteen years ago)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Road_to_Revenge

really liked the pc game from 100 years ago, i heard these were so-so

xp i hated braid tbh. and i'm not so into endless-wave fight management type games either.

ultimate worrier (goole), Friday, 16 July 2010 21:05 (fifteen years ago)

yeah me either... I tried the demo of defense grid and it seemed ok I guess but I find those games really much of a muchness

hi I'm tyler farrar, quitter of team garmin-transitions (cozen), Friday, 16 July 2010 21:06 (fifteen years ago)

i was momentarily excited by the demo of toy soldiers (love those little plastic men) but it was not so good imo

ultimate worrier (goole), Friday, 16 July 2010 21:07 (fifteen years ago)

tempted by one of the board games on xbl but can decide on one out of catan, carcassone or ticket 2 ride

hi I'm tyler farrar, quitter of team garmin-transitions (cozen), Friday, 16 July 2010 21:09 (fifteen years ago)

in re: to Crimson Skies - online multiplayer for all original xbox titles no longer works :(

Jeff LeVine, Friday, 16 July 2010 21:14 (fifteen years ago)

shoot. thought maybe they'd re-upped it all to 360 live, i don't even have a o.g. xbox

ultimate worrier (goole), Friday, 16 July 2010 21:18 (fifteen years ago)

original xbox games online used to work fine via the 360 until a few months ago, when they finally canceled support

Jeff LeVine, Friday, 16 July 2010 21:22 (fifteen years ago)

i think i'll test defense grid out on steam

i'm gonna need a +1 so me & a friend can kick you in the balls (forksclovetofu), Saturday, 17 July 2010 05:14 (fifteen years ago)

tried some demos! aqua, blacklight and deadliest warrior.

all pretty bad.

ultimate worrier (goole), Monday, 19 July 2010 18:46 (fifteen years ago)

cancelling 1 vs 100 is some bullshit.

i'm gonna need a +1 so me & a friend can kick you in the balls (forksclovetofu), Monday, 19 July 2010 18:58 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, that sucks

t( :D t) (jjjusten), Monday, 19 July 2010 19:55 (fifteen years ago)

i mean i get that whatever they'll do next will be basically the exact same thing except it'll be KINECTED and they'll own the intellectual property and they'll make it better but the smokescreen of "it wasn't profitable" when they're throwing money away on a motion detector and reaping hundreds of millions of xbox live memberships and you STILL have to sit through a shitton of commercials for phones and orange drink is BULLSHIT

So is Limbo going to be amazing or just a'ight.

no turkey unless it's a club sandwich (polyphonic), Monday, 19 July 2010 22:59 (fifteen years ago)

I'll probably download it after I finish Death Spank, which is pretty fun in spite of its retarded name. Pretty simple hack and slash with adventure game elements by the one of the dudes involved with Monkey Island.

mayor jingleberries, Tuesday, 20 July 2010 16:37 (fifteen years ago)

Kinect offically priced at $150/£130/€150. comes with Kinect Adventures game.
Bundle also with Xbox 360 4GB flash version, Kinect & Kinect Adventures for $300/£250/€300.

zappi, Tuesday, 20 July 2010 17:08 (fifteen years ago)

loooooooool abandon hope now kinect dudes

t( :D t) (jjjusten), Tuesday, 20 July 2010 17:42 (fifteen years ago)

So you could just buy a Wii for roughly the same price as the Kinect on its own?

i'm gonna need a +1 so me & a friend can kick you in the balls (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 20 July 2010 18:30 (fifteen years ago)

yup. this is the bit that amuses me tho
"Pre-order Kinect or the Xbox 360 Kinect Console Bundle today, and at launch receive a token to download three exclusive game levels for Kinect Adventures, the game included with Kinect."

this would be good a hack & slash / inventory shuffle game, but the joeks were wearing on me just from the demo.

bnw, Thursday, 22 July 2010 23:42 (fifteen years ago)

cosine on that. spoken word kills that dialogue dead.

any of you yankee fuxx pick up deadly premonition?

I played a bunch of this last night and it totally rules.

Edge magazine's cover story this month is basically "Kinect: the new 32X?".

JimD, Monday, 2 August 2010 18:35 (fifteen years ago)

Ouch. It's true, though, I have a 360 and I'm not even remotely considering buying it.

"goof proof cooking, I love it!" (Z S), Monday, 2 August 2010 18:41 (fifteen years ago)

I'll get it if they come out with a game that is fun to play.

But it does not sound like that will happen at launch.

no turkey unless it's a club sandwich (polyphonic), Monday, 2 August 2010 18:48 (fifteen years ago)

That Harmonix game could be good, but then again they made a game for the PS2 eye toy that was also allegedly good..

mayor jingleberries, Monday, 2 August 2010 19:31 (fifteen years ago)

It looks like it has the appeal of a lot of Wii games - basically it gets played with great enthusiasm a few times at parties, then shoved into a closet for the rest of eternity. This in no way impacts its chances of success, though. Kinect doesn't look worth the money at all, but if I was going to get one I'd probably choose that game over most of the other options.

Nhex, Monday, 2 August 2010 21:51 (fifteen years ago)

thx to this reminder, i just did this tonight. as a dude that owns 50 cent BOTS i figured it was the least i could do

CHEESECAKE VOTING FRUIT HATING SCUM (jjjusten), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 02:04 (fifteen years ago)

Man, so I was marathon sessioning Dragon's Age when Xbox Live went down. It claims it's up on the website, and my internet works perfectly, but my Xbox just won't connect to Live. At least DA doesn't really require Live to play.

Mordy, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 04:34 (fifteen years ago)

so I'll get my 360 back later this week, after about 14 months away. This is a ~big~ question but have I missed anything great on 360 since then? I don't play FPSs. I guess rhythm games are last year's thing now? I'm pretty psyched to finally play Beatles Rock Band, and it looks like a million other rhythm games came out, which are probably cheap now. Any big suggestions for XBLA?

Euler, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 04:40 (fifteen years ago)

Red Dead Redemption, obv.

Mordy, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 04:41 (fifteen years ago)

yeah I may try that! I liked Bully a lot, didn't care much for GTA4 b/c getting from mission to mission was too tedious, but horse riding should reduce that aspect of it.

Euler, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 04:43 (fifteen years ago)

Beatles Rock Band is amazing if you have friends who are willing to try to do the harmonies with you ... and pretty good even if you don't.

Shadow Complex, Trials, Limbo, Braid, and Geometry Wars 2 are some of the better xbla games.

no turkey unless it's a club sandwich (polyphonic), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 05:14 (fifteen years ago)

I have Braid, but I think the others came out after I left, so I'm interested in checking them out.

Are extra microphones reasonably cheap? Because it would be fab to sing harmonies with my kids, but I'd have to buy the microphones to do this.

Euler, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 05:20 (fifteen years ago)

There's this new game I can't remember the name of -- but it's apparently like Braid but based on silent movie themes? And the protagonist is a ridiculous villain with a greasy mustache or something?

Mordy, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 05:31 (fifteen years ago)

professor winterbottom
