now that I've beaten this I am COMPLETELY DONE; no interest in clothes or achievements or even online. Great fun while it lasted but man, when you burn out you really burn out

felt the same way about fallout 3.

i tried getting my money back from the opium dealer but fucked it up.
this was confusing. giving him his money was a plus to honor, huh?

I got a goddamn royal flush in poker on this the other day.. Proud moment.

I've never played arm wrestling as every time I've gone to a table there's never anybody there. I assume it's the same or similar to arm wrestling in Lost & Damned?
I quite like Liar's Dice and Blackjack though there's nothing to them really. They get boring quickly.
― Born too beguiled (DavidM), Tuesday, 15 June 2010 18:23 (sixteen years ago)
arm wrestling is more fun in this than in L&D

man i need to up my game at deathmatch.
also realised today that in all gta games i always push the stick forward when walking/running/riding, even though you just have to press a/x to move forwards. kind of unintentional and dumb but it actually makes the controls less twitchy and turning easier, imo.
― sent from my neural lace (ledge), Tuesday, 15 June 2010 23:01 (sixteen years ago)
same here - which also means that very often I push left stick in unintentionally and start crouching. very annoying as it usually happens in the middle of combat panic mode (had exactly the same problem in GTA)

So I've been doing it wrong all this time? Thanks for the heads up!
― Bill E, Wednesday, 16 June 2010 10:12 (sixteen years ago)
Both work though. You can just push forward and not even touch the buttons if you just want standard speed strolling/trotting.
― JimD, Wednesday, 16 June 2010 10:32 (sixteen years ago)
i don't like the pressing button to move, far too sensitive when turning.
― ei ei oh (Ste), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 10:35 (sixteen years ago)
well that's what i was saying, if you push the stick forward as well then you can turn more accurately.
― sent from my neural lace (ledge), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 10:39 (sixteen years ago)
haha i do this ALL THE TIME. like quick, john marsten, jump on my stagecoach! "ok!!" CROUCH

So how long is this game? I've been through about 4 missions for Bonnie and a couple for the Marshall. I've already put in 6-7 hours. If there are about 10-20 people to do missions for (like in recent GTA games) I will be playing this for quite awhile (like Fallout 3 come to think about it)...
― calstars, Wednesday, 16 June 2010 11:07 (sixteen years ago)
I'm 12h 50m in and 45% complete. Don't know how that compares to other people, I think I might be quite slow. Finding it a bit of a slog now, I've started skipping cut scenes and taking stagecoaches.

Ha, 25 hrs and 20 minutes played, 34% complete.

poker is so boring :\
― Astronaut Mike Dexter (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 13:59 (sixteen years ago)
ah it's ok - when you systematically cut the cutscenes
― licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 14:04 (sixteen years ago)
I think i got 40 hours out of this and about 30 good hours
― I have been forks-style since day one (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 14:43 (sixteen years ago)
i started like this, but when i opened up mexico i kinda flew through the missions and barely touched any of the side stuff. cutscenes got increasingly boring and i skipped them. i haven't played for a while, but i am actually itching to get 'back on the horse'. ho ho ho.
― go O and O (Ste), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 14:47 (sixteen years ago)
forks - i haven't played this game, but it seems to me like basically every game in this genre has the problem of being too long, or having a weak finish (or alternatively, just too much fluff in the middle to get the to the end)*, but do you think there are other GTA/alike games that don't suffer from this problem? *except maybe Saints Row 2 as you could tear through the story relatively fast if you wanted to, or maybe I liked the story missions in it more. San Andreas might have had the opposite problem, i think that game was generally strongest in the middle hours after long tutorial, but again it's a long way to the finale

Bully is pretty refined, imo.

ps has anyone joined the social club? i tried last night and it wouldn't work. thought it was maybe a browser problem.

think i must have signed up for gta. doesn't seem to offer much except some 'exclusive cheats', + stat viewing etc.

It's handy for keeping track of which locations it thinks you still haven't found.
― JimD, Wednesday, 16 June 2010 19:28 (sixteen years ago)
are the extra challenges fun to do? that's all i'm really into at the moment
― goole, Wednesday, 16 June 2010 19:29 (sixteen years ago)
got my first duel disarm ^_^

― calstars, Wednesday, 16 June 2010 21:27 (sixteen years ago)
are the extra challenges fun to do?
only a couple there at the moment, they look fairly tough, e.g. for pike's basin:
* Kill 3 people in one Dead Eye burst * Drag a gang member through the basin * Kill all enemies while on horseback
― sent from my neural lace (ledge), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 22:07 (sixteen years ago)
only just figured out how to do duels after googling :/
in a good way or a bad way
― emotional radiohead whatever (Jordan), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 22:08 (sixteen years ago)
you'd think that for the sharpshooter challenge for shooting two hats off people's heads, a penalty for accidentally killing oooooh five or so folk while trying might be a good idea.
― sent from my neural lace (ledge), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 22:13 (sixteen years ago)
* Kill 3 people in one Dead Eye burst
this seems pretty easy now that I have the 'paint the target' thing
― Astronaut Mike Dexter (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Thursday, 17 June 2010 15:35 (sixteen years ago)
it was more the horse thing tbh, although i suppose it would just be tedious, not difficult. especially tedious if they manage to kill yr horse too.
― sent from my neural lace (ledge), Thursday, 17 June 2010 15:43 (sixteen years ago)
i killed five goats in one burst the other night and immediately got shot dead at by a Federale who i didn't notice was standing right next to me. don't fuck with Mexican goats!
― progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 17 June 2010 16:37 (sixteen years ago)
aw man not the livestock
― goole, Thursday, 17 June 2010 16:42 (sixteen years ago)
they looked tasty
i forgot that john marston doesn't eat
― progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 17 June 2010 17:00 (sixteen years ago)
when the game began i actually assumed there was going to be some kind of snake eater subsistence action going on.. i guess i haven't shaken it completely
― progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 17 June 2010 17:01 (sixteen years ago)
Finally won my first multiplayer last night, tho it was a 2 vs 2 capture the bag. I didn't realise you can just whistle up a horse, so a couple of quick trips to get the bag sealed it, barely saw any of the opposition. Was kinda weird, I'm used to getting really crappy kill/death ratios. Sick of 2 vs 1 shootouts, would be nice to get into action with about 10 people or so. This is probably a time difference thing tho, I'm in NZ and only get to play at night here.
― Bill E, Friday, 18 June 2010 00:00 (sixteen years ago)
i was having plenty of 16 player action the other (uk) night. kd ratio slooooowly rising. might rise faster now i've figured out how to use dead-eye in multiplayer.
― sent from my neural lace (ledge), Friday, 18 June 2010 08:31 (sixteen years ago)
You can do that? How?
― JimD, Friday, 18 June 2010 08:38 (sixteen years ago)
it doesn't slow stuff down but it does the auto-target painting of dead-eye level 2. nb only read about it not tried it yet.
― sent from my neural lace (ledge), Friday, 18 June 2010 08:45 (sixteen years ago)
& it might need some control option fiddling since every time i've pressed the right stick previously i get a 'look behind' view instead.
― sent from my neural lace (ledge), Friday, 18 June 2010 08:46 (sixteen years ago)
um, i'm not sure of the point of it then? i guess i'll have to try it and see but if you're still just targeting in normal motion, why don't you just normal target and shoot instead?
― go O and O (Ste), Friday, 18 June 2010 09:12 (sixteen years ago)
oh sorry, does it auto paint?
p. sure it slows down your targets too
― stofu (cozen), Friday, 18 June 2010 09:14 (sixteen years ago)
how can it do that in multiplayer tho?
― go O and O (Ste), Friday, 18 June 2010 09:16 (sixteen years ago)
