I think I'm final starting to get into Super, played some online games last night and had a pretty good time & also good, green bar connections & not so much trouble finding games thru quick match (it probably worked right 50% of the time!).

Via replay channel is there any way to see your friend's match replays - as frankly, watching random strangers replays isn't very entertaining, but it would be cool to browse thru friend's last 15 games or something like that.

One weird thing is since I'm playing on a Japanese 360 - it shows my region flag as Japan & I swear that's giving me an advantage online as people get intimidated when they see that Japanese flag - or at least it seems like that to me - or maybe just the randoms I played last night weren't very good.

Anyhow, definitely feeling & thinking I'm going to start playing this more now.

The online set-up for this game has really improved with Super - I seem to be getting into games fifty percent of the times I try instead of ten percent. There also seems to be more green bar matches - kind of surprised actually, since I know it sold less. It does seem like there are less completes crubs around, but also less really skilled players - of the games I've played lately I'd say it seems like I'm mostly finding people around my own average skill (and I've won 53% of my games so far, so that feeling makes sense).

nhex (you're most likely to know I reckon), is it possible to get a convertor to allow use of PS2 sticks on 360 and/or PS3

flamelurker (cozen), Friday, 11 June 2010 13:28 (thirteen years ago) link

yep - check out this thread
http://shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=181187

for PS2/360 they all require that you have a wired standard controller to bypass the lockout, and there are plenty of converters for PS2/PS3. Luckily it doesn't seem to cost a ton for these - i know some of the 360/PS3 converters are like $80, almost defeating the pt of getting one

what stick are you using? i'm tempted to go your route in some nebulous future for the easiest crossplatform solution

Good games nhex - like I said, I'm way rusty right now, but will definitely be trying to play more and get back into the flow. Shame about the lag. I swear I've played cozen 5,000 miles away with less lag! I don't know why we can't seem to get a decent connection going @ half that :(

Jeff LeVine, Saturday, 3 July 2010 04:31 (thirteen years ago) link

GGs to you too! I'm grateful you're even willing to step down to Vanilla at this point. I could tell you were rusty, but there were a lot of obvious moments when you should've been able to properly combo or hit Ultra, if not for the lag.

I'll admit, the lag problems are very possibly on my computer's end - some combination of the fact that it's an iMac, running a two-generations-old video card on wireless internet. For every other online game there's no problem, but SF is incredibly finicky about this stuff.

xps uh what IS that animated .gif?

hmmm? http://twitter.com/Yoshi_OnoChin/status/17640942374

There's something kind of pure about going back to vanilla SFIV. Super is almost like too much... I still have so much to learn (still learning SFII tbh)

Jeff LeVine, Saturday, 3 July 2010 18:20 (thirteen years ago) link

After watching streams of various regional tourneys throughout the year, I totally forgot how the level of play at Evo is just levels beyond - seen a lot of amazing matches yesterday and today

crazy matches - so glad I tuned in.

Jeff LeVine, Sunday, 11 July 2010 03:58 (thirteen years ago) link

ugh stream crash at the end of the final set was really awful

Nhex, Monday, 12 July 2010 05:32 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah - disappointing stream drops - especially that last one :( but honestly, the earlier matches were more exciting - the last batch just seemed like padding out the show until the inevitable Daigo victory.

Jeff LeVine, Monday, 12 July 2010 05:44 (thirteen years ago) link

Kinda true - last year's Grand Finals were more exciting with Justin winning his first set out of Loser's and coming closer to winning. But as crazy good as all the competitors were, still seems like Daigo's a step above everybody else - or maybe it's just his disturbing calm

definitely sad when Vangief got eliminated, as well both the awesome Hondas by Henry Cen and Mike Ross. a little relieved that Ricky didn't get put out by Infiltration - there'd be inevitable, infinite crying all year about the finals being Japan vs. Korea

i have been trying to learn this. Chun Li's ultra is impossible. Although I'm beginning to think fighting games are just not for me.

Sshhh... mum's up (Ste), Tuesday, 7 June 2011 23:14 (twelve years ago) link

Getting the rhythm of those charge ultras is a little weird at first, but you can get it down. I don't know if I can describe it well, but it's you hold (DOWNBACK), then you go BACK, FORWARD, BACK+PUNCH, your stick/pad movement should be (HOLD), TAP-TAP-TAP.

The easiest way to mess up that kind of Ultra is to "roll" the joystick inputs so instead of going right-left-right, you're going RIGHT-down-LEFT-UPLEFT-LEFT-down-RIGHT or some such. Open practice mode and turn on the inputs so you can see what you're doing.

I got AE on 360. Who's down?

Nhex, Thursday, 30 June 2011 05:09 (twelve years ago) link

not got AE yet, still figuring out the previous one. Not sure i can justify the price tag for just four more characters either.

also thanks for the info up top. i watched some tutorials (yes i'm THAT much of a noob on these games) on the web, actually it was for MvC3, but some of the basics were worth knowing.

also i was trying ultra on arcade versions that might not have actually included ultra option, doh.

getting better

Ste, Thursday, 30 June 2011 09:10 (twelve years ago) link

well. played my first on line session last night. pretty spectacular failure. must have played in excess of a hundred bouts and didn't win a single one.

i was choosing ranked match which i presume means it tries to find opponents of similar level. this didn't appear to be the case at all, everyone seemed to be a complete expert at delivering the right special moves and at the right times.

bullshit really.
