went back to the boar spot today and was attacked by ten or eleven of them. really weird. then two cougars immediately ran up to help me get the next hunting level.

They probably smelled the boar blood.

Ended up doing about 5 hours of free roam with 3 friends last night and it was AMAZING. It's true that public games are full of nobbers, but co-opping on gang hideouts with a party is so much fun.

Yeah, splitting up and ambushing gang guys in hideouts with a few random other players can be pretty cinematic. I need to keep doing it because every time I play multiplayer I get slaughtered by guys who've leveled up enough to start with good guns.

In multiplayer, you can get auto-targeting on NPCs but not other players, right? I've read people complaining about how pointless auto-target is in MP but whenever I've had to try and defend myself from knobs in free roam I've had to try and manually aim the cursor at them.

Dunno, played a few shootouts and I'm pretty sure auto-targeting stayed on all the time. Didn't try any public free roam though, so maybe that's different?

That's the thing, I definitely feel like I'm getting auto-shot but when I try to return fire it's just trying to line a cursor up with a guy who's running round in circles with the left trigger held down.

Never had a free roam that wasn't at least 1/3 asshole, but had a good one last night where a bunch of guys took over the Mexican fort with the wall mounted cannons, and just holed up there for about an hour destroying everything that came near it.

Capture the bag is quite funny, with the narrator's constant "You've got the bag! You dropped the bag. You have control of the bag! You dropped the bag." Don't play these sort of games much in MP usually so not sure if hiding behind a rock near the enemy drop off point and shooting guys in the head when they get within six feet of it makes me an asshole or not.

i'll most likely pick up Heavy Rain.

after which i may actually very well sell it back to the shop. my interest in games is very narrow and i'm not really aware of others that i'm interested in.

i'm surprised by how stiff and weird "realistic" videogame human beings still are in 2010. i think i'd prefer all games to just abandon any pretense at photorealism and stick with cartoony versions for now. i mean if even Pixar insists on cartoony humans i'm not sure how the PS3 is supposed to able to do any better in realtime..

but back to Red Dead..

I think RDR and Uncharted 2 both had decently realistic humans but the eyes always look wrong, way too shiny and bright like they have lightbulbs inside their skulls

Have to drag myself away from this game for a bit. Spent most of the first couple of hours on the game huntin & shootin, which I guess is the norm. Surprised when a boar charged my horse! Bagged three of those, and four cougars. There're a lot of cougars out there. They're not that difficult to kill, but they always get my horse.
Do I just sell all my meat/hides etc, or will I actually need any of it?

I sold all my meat and hides but have superstitiously held on to my herbs. Mmm herbs.

i did the mission w/ the dead fiancee/crazy lady combo. I can't lasso people tho. It's hard.

Protip: You can deadeye with the lasso

does the honor meter shut off at some point? i killed many innocents last night including a blackjack dealer who had 21 3 outta 4 hands but i never saw the honor meter pop up.

I am officially a knight of the west and have maxed out my honor bar. Heading back to deal with Irish as that's the last of my outstanding letters on the map. High points lately: dealing with the horse fucker, cleaning out all the gang hideouts, having a man steal my horse/whistling for horse/dude getting bucked off/me roping and hogtieing him and leaving him in the road
