I wrangled one of the $750 horses, then wanted to exchange it for my old one once I realized what I did after stopping at the store. Now I cant figure out what the hell the damn thing looked like. Apparently its white-ish. pfft.

yeah the horse ropin' mission drove me nuts. took me a long time to figure out what you have to hold down and what you have to let go.

When you're tipping to the left, push right. When you're tipping to the right, push left.

Yeah, you keep holding down the trigger after lassoing something. Hold it down when you jump off your horse and walk to it

If you miss a stranger (?) will it show up later again in the game? I'm trying not to miss any site specific encpounters (not only stranger visits). I know many encounters are random and repeatable but when I was looking at the stats screen there is two tallies: random encounters and not so random encounters (it goes by different names but I'm not able to check right now). I don't want to miss anything and hopefully the game doesn't let you miss the not-so-completely-random encounters.

Liar's Dice (aka Perudo) is a pretty cool game irl. Have any of you ever played it? The variation that I play irl is much better than the RDR version. In the better version 1's are wild and you don't do the "that amount is exact" rule... it's more complicated learning how to bet because when you bet 1's you have to halve the last amount etc..

No it worked twice or three times in a row for me. I just made sure I was standing right in the middle of the picture of the pig on my map. Also I think it was daytime if that makes a difference (?). Thanks for pointing out where to go btw

lassoing and riding horses felt really natural to me; I've managed all that the first time I tried it.
Tap the run button once you lasso the horse to pull it toward you and run to it then leap on the back. And don't forget dead eye! I completely forgot about it for hours and once I reembraced it the whole game was in VATS.

erm so i just realised that balancing, its left and right AS YOU SEE IT and not actual left and right from the character.

but i just did it but it said i failed because i left the herd

Oh man, i've gotten nailed so many times.

lol i just did the burning barn mission. got to the end (i think) but ran my horse over a townsfolk and failed.

Finally got my 360 back and loving the game so far. Unfortunately, there's this dude in Armadillo who keeps challenging me to a duel and then crashing my 360. This doesn't happen anywhere else in the game, which leads me to believe he's actually an incredibly effective dueler.

mine froze last night when patrolling the farm with the dog. those coyotes... so powerful.

funny easter egg (?): the gold you find for the treasure hunter tasks has fakey-civil war sounding names (generals it says), but most of the names are scrambled with names of famous abolitionists

I had the same problem mentioned to just upthread, looking for boars, using bait, standing right on the little boar icon on the map, but only wolves show up. Still haven't seen a boar, but I'll keep trying!

Okay, this is something VERY simple that I'm sure all of you already noticed, but I just now found out about it so I'll share it in case there's another ignorant cowboy like me:

To speed up the skinning process simply walk your horse over the corpse to be skinned. This will block the animation and instantly give you the results of the animal harvesting. When faced with multiple targets, and the player wishes to make a quick getaway, this can literally be a life saver.

I've been getting up and down off the horse everytime, listening to John Marston say "ooooh...this is DIRTY"

i was going to do just that very thing the other day, but then my horse got killed by a cougar.

I tried a version of that where I hogtied a guy hunting deer and poured some bait on his head. The animals didn't eat him :(

when you get to the right spot you'll get a prompt ("investigate?" maybe). if you haven't gotten that, you aren't in the right spot yet.

ah, there's the issue. I thought I needed to buy a shovel or something.

My main issue with this game is: riding along minding my own business, "help save my baby" from the side of the road, i pull off my horse and before I know what's up someone is shooting at me, I return fire, kill some old lady and now the game is shaking its head at me with a what were you thinking attitude. then, cougar attack.

Not even sure if that's an issue, but it's constant. Just finished my first few lines of plot and a few missions (american appetites just got stupid by the end); on my way to figure out how to do the trojan horse thing.

Im at the hunting mission where I need to kill two cougars with my bare hands and I cant seem to find any who want to kill me =\
