I've been watching lots of encore westerns because of this game. Yesterday was McLintock!

I think we're all dumbfounded into silence that that's your really easy way to make money

It's early in the game, I haven't raided the Fort yet, but money seems pointless as there isn't anything expensive worth getting. I have $3000 or so. Hopefully I won't be sitting on a wad of cash throughout the whole game.

i find it harder to be a homicidal maniac then in gta I think b/c of the engine.

one criticism: the open order of missions can sometimes backfire. Like when you keep getting the hogtie option but may have not done that mission. Same with Thieves Landing, which gets mentioned before it appears on your map.

ah yes to the hogtie thing, i have no idea how to do that and it keeps coming up

its pretty fun, although sometimes it goes unappreciated. like i hogtied a criminal running from the law and the lawman just walked up and capped him.

yes!! i got the random encounter when two criminals run off from the lawman, i roped them both, brought them back, the guy says thanks, i get my $17 or whatever and he blows both their brains out and strolls off

there's a definite edge toward disregard of life, even moreso than in GTA i think. You're encouraged to shoot any goddamn thing that moves and bonus points if you gut it or loot it.

If you hogtie the guy that robs the general store from time to time, the weirdo anti-semite shopkeeper stands there theatrically kicking him in the head.

Also, there's a mission where a woman wants to leave town and you can either let her go or tie her up at the train station and bring her back to her husband. I tied her up, got the info from her husband then ran off with her and set her free at the train station, but she just ran away screaming and it didn't trigger any plot stuff.

Multiplayer free roam seems really good if you don't just get surrounded by mongs who repeatedly shoot you even though it's supposed to be co-op focused.

What the hell is this matchmaking system that thinks an ideal first match for me would be a shootout where I'm alone in a one man team against a 3 man team of experienced twats?

i keep failing at this dumb horse race for west dickens. and like, it's not because i'm doing badly at the race, my horse just isn't fast enough and doesn't have enough stamina compared to the other horses. Guess i'll have to ride about like a fud until i max out his loyalty or whatever, bah. Lame and boring.

buy a better horse! or buy apples.

see i would wrangle horses but how do you tell if they're better than the one you have? i did whistle and a horse that looked a lot like the horse i already had came back and i can't tell if it's any faster. ha.

suppose i can try the race again and see if i win.

A stats screen for the horse would be a nice addition, so you could see the loyalty, stamina, top speed, give it a name, etc

I shot a few wild horses in the face last night, just to see what would happen. What happened is that they just died. It was kind of underwhelming.

I wrangled one of the $750 horses, then wanted to exchange it for my old one once I realized what I did after stopping at the store. Now I cant figure out what the hell the damn thing looked like. Apparently its white-ish. pfft.

yeah the horse ropin' mission drove me nuts. took me a long time to figure out what you have to hold down and what you have to let go.

the balancing thing: if you're leaning one way, push the other way a little bit

Yeah, you keep holding down the trigger after lassoing something. Hold it down when you jump off your horse and walk to it

If you miss a stranger (?) will it show up later again in the game? I'm trying not to miss any site specific encpounters (not only stranger visits). I know many encounters are random and repeatable but when I was looking at the stats screen there is two tallies: random encounters and not so random encounters (it goes by different names but I'm not able to check right now). I don't want to miss anything and hopefully the game doesn't let you miss the not-so-completely-random encounters.

Liar's Dice (aka Perudo) is a pretty cool game irl. Have any of you ever played it? The variation that I play irl is much better than the RDR version. In the better version 1's are wild and you don't do the "that amount is exact" rule... it's more complicated learning how to bet because when you bet 1's you have to halve the last amount etc..

No it worked twice or three times in a row for me. I just made sure I was standing right in the middle of the picture of the pig on my map. Also I think it was daytime if that makes a difference (?). Thanks for pointing out where to go btw

lassoing and riding horses felt really natural to me; I've managed all that the first time I tried it.
Tap the run button once you lasso the horse to pull it toward you and run to it then leap on the back. And don't forget dead eye! I completely forgot about it for hours and once I reembraced it the whole game was in VATS.
