The Playstation 3 is IDENTITY THEFT

My problem wasn't with the difficulty, but the imprecision of the controls. I liked watching other people play it though - an absolute beauty of a game.

I'm kind of with Jeff, I'm only just playing it now and it's fine and fun, if no mario. And yeah, v pretty.

every now & then i pick it back up cos its so pretty & well made - i'll be running through a level against the clock & have to move a block or something & then the 3 planes controls start acting up and ... back on the shelf the game goes.

Sure the jump is floaty, but it goes with the style of the game perfectly. It's also absolutely precise. I don't know, I didn't have a problem with it at all. But then again, the best non-Mario platform game of all time, N/N+ has an even more floaty jump.

I think on some level it didn't have enough of a story or mythos or something to make me want to play more than just one or two levels and then move on to something else, and unlike most platformers I didn't feel like there was an incentive to improve at it. It was more like walking through a funhouse or something. Actually, that Super Mario Brothers game from last year with all the bounciness issues felt like a superior example of the same sort of gameplay.

anyone else experienced any blacking out / screen flickering with their PS3? I'm connected via HDMI (and have tried several cables) and running at 1080p. only seemed to be happening on the dashboard, my PS3 was on for a while downloading demos so maybe it was a heat issue

just random black outs? I've noticed when going over hdmi now and then it will go black / then full of static for less than half a second (also makes a static popping sound), but I've only seen it happen when switching between a game and the dashboard, or going from the dashboard to a game. I believe it has something to do with the hdmi handshake - has been happening for three years to me, so no biggie. But maybe you're descibing something else?

I've had what you described before since I've had it, I just figured that was the machine's idiosyncrasies

today I was getting random black outs or flickering staticky screens (no popping sound though); and even an audio drop out in-game

switching tv inputs to antenna back to HDMI seems to sort it

Either pay-per-video weekly rentals or an all-you-can-watch subscription service. There’ll also be some free videos to try out the service, too.

In theory Mubi is pretty cool. They've been around for a couple of years (orginally called the Auteurs and closely tied to Criterion in the US). Besides the name change they've recently cut their price structure about in half (but offer less free movies than they used to)... and do have a decent selection of rare arty films that often aren't available elsewhere, not on dvd and not from netflix - stuff like the Phillip Garrel films. Selection apparently varies by region though. At least in the US, even after a couple of years the selection isn't huge. It's quality though. I never liked the pay per film structure - especially when the prices were $5 or $6 per film, but if they roll out an inexpensive subscription option, that's something I would consider.

is the ps3 thing gonna be like an "app"?

if you get all the trophies for a game but not the DLC trophies, do you still get the platinum?

or is the platinum all trophies for the game regardless of whether they are original or DLC?

Guys I am 30 years old and I am sort of interested in getting a PS3 but fear that I am "tool old" for this stuff. Keep in mind I played MLB 08 for an hr last night. I wouldn't call myself a HC game player and don't really go for the final fantasy RPG or etc. I'm kind of interested in playing against friends online (perhaps YOU?!!?). I don't really BELIEVE in blu-ray, though the idea od netflix streaming looking better on my big TV than thru a laptop is exciting to me. Is it hard to set up?

It's super easy.

Plug it in, have its wifi card detect yr wireless network, DONE.

sub question: where's the cheapest place to go to get one? Are thee places where you get better deals if you wink at the workers in a special way? do pplaces even take PS2 for trade in?

You sound like me, except I already have a PS3. It is very easy to set up. You can trade in a PS2 but I have no idea how much they'll give you for it.

1. download and install TVersity
2. open ports on your firewall

2. run it
3. turn on PS3

i use medialink for mac.

I imagine medialink is good (I used to use connect360 on the xbox) but PS3 media server has the added bonus that it costs $free.99

forgot to mention also tht PS3 media server will also re-encode files on the fly which handily gets round the fact that the PS3 doesn't play nice w/mkv
