Edge was the first iPhone game I got, based on rave reviews (when there were few other iPhone games); it's kinda fun but a year or year.5 later it still hasn't clicked as awesome. The puzzles are either no work or a pain to figure out, like "ok I will die figuring out this puzzle a few times and then by the end, have memorized all the potential pitfalls and win without dying". Obv. I need to play it more b/c it probably gets better...I hope?

it is so so so so so dope. also surprisingly funny (as opposed to "video game funny").
― /no cobo (jamescobo), Tuesday, 23 February 2010 18:45 (sixteen years ago)
oh and pick up Sword & Poker while you're buying stuff, it's only a buck and it ate my life for a couple of weeks.
have any of you tried The Quest?

whoa this looks sick
― nitzer Ed (s1ocki), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 02:41 (sixteen years ago)
Mimeo (even the name) started as a Mario clone with a twist: instead of power-ups affecting the player, they affect the entire game world. A story and mythos quickly developed. The so-called Mimeoverse consists of two 16-bit demiverses sharing 32-bits between them. When the evil Kleptopus King, an 8-bit octopus with an inferiority complex, discovers a portal into Mimeo’s realm and begins to syphon off its bits, Mimeo is sucked in and down-sampled to 2-bit. So begins Mimeo’s quest to restore balance to the demiverses.
ergo power-ups upgrade not your character but the world itself

anyone who liked Pic Pic/hasn't ever heard of Pic Pic but likes puzzle games needs to drop two bucks on PathPix right now and prepare to lose a few days of their life.

Just beat space miner. Good game but way too short.
― Jeff, Saturday, 27 February 2010 15:11 (sixteen years ago)
broke 500 on orbital again - so so satisfying to get 10+ combos
i've noticed that having a "line of defense" helps a great deal. if you can get a few bubbles near you they'll block a lot of otherwise troublesome shots. of course you have to play it fine - one misplaced bubble and your line of defense becomes an impenetrable wall of death
― Tracer Hand, Friday, 12 March 2010 14:53 (sixteen years ago)
Beat Final Fantasy I. Now starting on II. Such nostalgia.
― Jeff, Friday, 12 March 2010 14:55 (sixteen years ago)
orbital is pretty fun/frustrating. have made 500 my goal because of Tracer.
― bnw, Friday, 12 March 2010 15:03 (sixteen years ago)
i i'd say about 50% of my games hover around 200, 45% i die almost immediately, and 5% are over 300
― Tracer Hand, Friday, 12 March 2010 16:29 (sixteen years ago)
it needs slow-mo replay on death shots
― bnw, Friday, 12 March 2010 17:06 (sixteen years ago)
yes!!

I play a lot of doodle jump.
I've gotten way more than my .99 cents out of it.

after 5 hours, 9 minutes, and 55 seconds of playing orbital in supernova mode, my high score so far is... 108 :\

I'm at 168 after 3hr 45min.
― sofatruck, Saturday, 5 June 2010 15:03 (sixteen years ago)
I have Civ:Rev on 3 platforms: 360, DS, & Tooch, & the Tooch version is by far the best---totally fabulous interface, & well-suited to short-ish commutes.
― Euler, Saturday, 5 June 2010 18:42 (sixteen years ago)
Tooch = iPhone? If you say it's really worth getting I may consider it. Is it a huge battery drain tho?
― Mordy, Saturday, 5 June 2010 20:07 (sixteen years ago)
haha yes, Tooch = iPod touch = iPhone (for the sake of this thread). It's a bit of a drain, yes: but I can get at least 3 hours of play I think? haven't timed it out. It's no worse wrt battery life than the other games I play a lot of (e.g. Catan, Peggle).
― Euler, Saturday, 5 June 2010 20:15 (sixteen years ago)
Bejeweled seems to suck my battery dry.
― Mordy, Saturday, 5 June 2010 20:20 (sixteen years ago)
Carcassonne is out for the iPhone.
― Jeff, Saturday, 5 June 2010 21:00 (sixteen years ago)
managed to sort out some kind of strategy for orbital, have hit 192, could probably go higher if I didn't have the patience of a 3 year old in setting up my shot. also begging for an option where you get to repeat shots along the same trajectory
what are some other good games? orbital & drop7 getting kind of dull tbh
― an indie-rock microgenre (dyao), Tuesday, 15 June 2010 16:39 (sixteen years ago)
still stanning for strategery
― stet, Tuesday, 15 June 2010 16:41 (sixteen years ago)
bunch of vuvuzeela apps on the appstore too
― an indie-rock microgenre (dyao), Tuesday, 15 June 2010 16:41 (sixteen years ago)
dyao you can basically set up the same trajectory by paying attention to the gridlines
― progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 15 June 2010 16:45 (sixteen years ago)
hah I try but being even a little bit off can make your shot go all crazy, especially due to finger-drift when you lift off the screen
(btw think upgrading to RETINA SCREEN might be worth it for orbital fireworks alone)
― an indie-rock microgenre (dyao), Tuesday, 15 June 2010 16:47 (sixteen years ago)
strategery is OK but Carcassonne may be the best game on the app store.
also Sigma owns if you like match 3s

Sword & Poker?
Which is actually based on poker squares, not poker. Sword and Poker II is out now, btw.

got 497 on orbital yesterday and came here to brag..but then I see tracer has 587 lol

SHIT WHAT I DONE BOUGHT RECENTLY
- 9 Innings 2011 (strong contender for my favorite game on my phone after 2 hours of playing. controls take some getting used to but once they click they're immaculate, and there's an unbelievably addictive baseball-card mechanic to extend the playtime. if you like baseball and don't get this game I impugn your sexual prowess.)
- Secret of Monkey Island 2 (haven't had much time to play it yet but the new controls [think a more refined Broken Sword] are a treat so far)
- Real Racing (got this the day I got my 4 and having only played it on that I have no problems calling it one of the 5 best motion-controlled games I've ever played on any platform)
- Gun Range (kind of fun but got old quickly)
- Espglauda (not really a shooter dude by nature but this is really fun! I can't say I'm playing it like a pro or anything [basically just blasting through the levels] but w/e, blowing shit up is awesome.)
- 100 Rogues (ok but nowhere near worthy of all the pre-release hype. Sword of Fargoal is a way better roguelike.)
- Civilization Revolution (whoever said this game sucks can sit on many dicks)
- Dungeon Scroll (still waiting for Popcap to put Bookworm Adventures on the app store but until then this will have to scratch my killing-things-by-finding-words itch)
- Soccer Superstars (eh)
