Tracer Hand, Thursday, 4 February 2010 10:11 (sixteen years ago)

i start off the same but i dunno if it helps, it always descends into anarchy and scrambling.

take me to your lemur (ledge), Thursday, 4 February 2010 10:22 (sixteen years ago)

I try to engineer a little barrier that I can then pop them behind, sort of like this:

_______

000

But it rarely works out.

JimD, Thursday, 4 February 2010 10:54 (sixteen years ago)

oh piss.

JimD, Thursday, 4 February 2010 10:54 (sixteen years ago)

jim what is that, you try to make a little barrier of them somehow??

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 4 February 2010 11:42 (sixteen years ago)

honest to god this is the greatest video game ever created by man or beast. if it took quarters i would be fucking destitute.

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 4 February 2010 11:43 (sixteen years ago)

My picture was meant to look like this

_________
.......
.......
0000...
.......
.......
.......
.......

JimD, Thursday, 4 February 2010 11:44 (sixteen years ago)

Er no, that's not it either.

JimD, Thursday, 4 February 2010 11:45 (sixteen years ago)

If you start at the right point, you can just keep the fire button held down and it will automatically build a wall of the things, you can get them angling out from the corner at 30 or 60 degrees depending where you start. But I'm not convinced it's a great strategy, you end up with a whole bunch of orbs which you can't get at and the screen just fills up.

take me to your lemur (ledge), Thursday, 4 February 2010 11:46 (sixteen years ago)

(er that's in pure or gravity, not supernova)

take me to your lemur (ledge), Thursday, 4 February 2010 12:37 (sixteen years ago)

I try and create big bubbles with large gravity fields. Then I can get rid of them by shooting around the periphery and it skirts along until it pops. This never gets me a high score though. However, it is very satisfying.

Jeff, Thursday, 4 February 2010 13:38 (sixteen years ago)

yeah the paradox of the big bubble - dangerous, irritating, but will take out everything else once you pop it

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 4 February 2010 16:21 (sixteen years ago)

My supernova strategy: start with a bubble in the top center, put bubbles on the sides, pop the center one, then start winnowing down the sides until there are at least 3 in the 1 range and a few more in the 2 range clumped together, then pop one of the 1 bubbles for a chain reaction. Clear up stragglers as I can and repeat. If possible, I try to create little ricochet alcoves and fire into those to clear out things that might be in the way.

When this works, I can reliably score well into the 200s with this strategy, but mishits are BRUTAL.

PIES! PIES! PIES! PIES! PIES! (HI DERE), Thursday, 4 February 2010 16:28 (sixteen years ago)

which supernova game are you talking about, the bejeweled-styel one?

brews before HOOS (s1ocki), Thursday, 4 February 2010 16:48 (sixteen years ago)

Supernova mode in Orbital

PIES! PIES! PIES! PIES! PIES! (HI DERE), Thursday, 4 February 2010 16:48 (sixteen years ago)

I tried the free version of Orbital and didn't get the appeal. The only games that I've played for more than a few days are Peggle, Bookworm, Scrabble and Canabalt.

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 4 February 2010 16:50 (sixteen years ago)

i still play drop7 every day

what the hell is wrong with me

brews before HOOS (s1ocki), Thursday, 4 February 2010 16:57 (sixteen years ago)

you will all be receiving a letter from my dean

and Watt (gbx), Thursday, 4 February 2010 17:03 (sixteen years ago)

getting REALLY into Mr.Aah! these days; it's like a deliberate version of Canabalt. also I picked up Puzzle Quest ON IPHONE and oh lord I had forgotten how addictive this shit is.

/no cobo (jamescobo), Thursday, 4 February 2010 17:12 (sixteen years ago)

"ricochet alcoves" for the win

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 4 February 2010 17:14 (sixteen years ago)

i still play drop7 every day

ditto. still can't get over 400,000 like hardly ever.

take me to your lemur (ledge), Thursday, 4 February 2010 17:18 (sixteen years ago)

I've never played Broken Sword before, tempted by this iPhone port. Anyone playing that?

JimD, Thursday, 4 February 2010 17:21 (sixteen years ago)

Where the hell is Plants vs Zombies on the iTunes store. I only can find Plants vs Zombies Cheats and Zombie Parade when I search.

Jeff, Friday, 5 February 2010 00:53 (sixteen years ago)

didn't think u cd get PvsZ ON IPHONE yet?

cozen, Friday, 5 February 2010 01:01 (sixteen years ago)

I'm mixing up threads. ILX Brainmash fail.

calzone: liberation (cozen), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 08:40 (sixteen years ago)

I'd rather they just dropped the price for the Mac OS X version in half, like the way it's been on Steam since release day.

Nhex, Tuesday, 9 February 2010 09:06 (sixteen years ago)

anyone played eliss or edge?

chris nibbs (cozen), Thursday, 11 February 2010 23:16 (sixteen years ago)

Edge isn't available because of some ridiculous copyright dispute.

Nhex, Thursday, 11 February 2010 23:20 (sixteen years ago)

oh, that guy

sorry to tell you it's really good :/

chris nibbs (cozen), Thursday, 11 February 2010 23:23 (sixteen years ago)

awesome write-up about Tim Langdell, the gigadouche who made it so you can't get Edge

also crossposting from C&P: Wolfenstein RPG is a ton of fun. the turn-based mechanic works way better than you would have ever guessed.

/no cobo (jamescobo), Thursday, 11 February 2010 23:33 (sixteen years ago)

oh and Space Miner is supposed to be an incredible Asteroids/RPG mashup game with good production values and insane gameplay hooks. I'm buying it as soon as I get my next paycheck.

/no cobo (jamescobo), Thursday, 11 February 2010 23:34 (sixteen years ago)

I have the lite version of Eliss, should really spring for the full thing. Geodefense is my new crackpipe tho.

take me to your lemur (ledge), Thursday, 11 February 2010 23:35 (sixteen years ago)

I can re-download apps bought off itunes w/out having to repay right?

chris nibbs (cozen), Thursday, 11 February 2010 23:43 (sixteen years ago)

yup, unless they've been removed from the store

/no cobo (jamescobo), Thursday, 11 February 2010 23:49 (sixteen years ago)

(in which case they're just gone forever)

/no cobo (jamescobo), Thursday, 11 February 2010 23:49 (sixteen years ago)

OK, might try w/something cheap first in case itunes is being its usual cunty

chris nibbs (cozen), Thursday, 11 February 2010 23:49 (sixteen years ago)

Edge was the first iPhone game I got, based on rave reviews (when there were few other iPhone games); it's kinda fun but a year or year.5 later it still hasn't clicked as awesome. The puzzles are either no work or a pain to figure out, like "ok I will die figuring out this puzzle a few times and then by the end, have memorized all the potential pitfalls and win without dying". Obv. I need to play it more b/c it probably gets better...I hope?

Euler, Friday, 12 February 2010 06:36 (sixteen years ago)

broke 500 on orbital

BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 23 February 2010 17:18 (sixteen years ago)

does everyone on here have Space Miner yet? it is fucking amazing.

also getting a lot of playtime out of Fritz Chess lately.

/no cobo (jamescobo), Tuesday, 23 February 2010 17:52 (sixteen years ago)

space miner is the first game I'm grabbing on ma new iphone I think; along w/PvZ

a passing heavy daftie (cozen), Tuesday, 23 February 2010 18:43 (sixteen years ago)

it is so so so so so dope. also surprisingly funny (as opposed to "video game funny").

/no cobo (jamescobo), Tuesday, 23 February 2010 18:45 (sixteen years ago)

oh and pick up Sword & Poker while you're buying stuff, it's only a buck and it ate my life for a couple of weeks.

/no cobo (jamescobo), Tuesday, 23 February 2010 18:45 (sixteen years ago)

have any of you tried The Quest?

Mordy, Tuesday, 23 February 2010 18:46 (sixteen years ago)

http://www.shauninman.com/archive/2010/02/23/mimeo_and_the_kleptopus_king

whoa this looks sick

nitzer Ed (s1ocki), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 02:41 (sixteen years ago)

Mimeo (even the name) started as a Mario clone with a twist: instead of power-ups affecting the player, they affect the entire game world. A story and mythos quickly developed. The so-called Mimeoverse consists of two 16-bit demiverses sharing 32-bits between them. When the evil Kleptopus King, an 8-bit octopus with an inferiority complex, discovers a portal into Mimeo’s realm and begins to syphon off its bits, Mimeo is sucked in and down-sampled to 2-bit. So begins Mimeo’s quest to restore balance to the demiverses.

ergo power-ups upgrade not your character but the world itself

anyone who liked Pic Pic/hasn't ever heard of Pic Pic but likes puzzle games needs to drop two bucks on PathPix right now and prepare to lose a few days of their life.
