steam again:Civ 4 Complete (includes Colonization and 2 more expansion packs) $13.60Left 4 Dead GOTY $7.50Max Payne 1+2 $3.74Osmos $2
― abanana, Wednesday, 30 December 2009 17:47 (sixteen years ago)
The fact that Steam games cost the same # of units in both dollars and euros is silly. Despite this, I am tempted to buy Civ 4 Complete...played a game of Colonization, the 1994 original, last week, and loved it, and so I'd like to try the modernized version.
― Euler, Wednesday, 30 December 2009 18:03 (sixteen years ago)
damn, that civ thing is tempting
― lazy cold meat and chocolate seasonal mentality (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 30 December 2009 18:06 (sixteen years ago)
anybody know anything about osmos? 2 bucks is my impulse buy threshhold.
― lazy cold meat and chocolate seasonal mentality (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 30 December 2009 18:15 (sixteen years ago)
ooooo, complete telltale for fifty bucks! all of monkey and sam and max and bone! VVVVV Tempting!
― lazy cold meat and chocolate seasonal mentality (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 30 December 2009 18:16 (sixteen years ago)
i bought osmos a month or so ago when it was £2 or so. is very slight, like a well-polished flash game (move around absorbing things smaller than you, avoiding things bigger than you)
― koogs, Wednesday, 30 December 2009 20:38 (sixteen years ago)
gonna give it a shot.

Tempted to get the Max Payne 2-pack. I never played the sequel, and for a buck extra why not i guess (though then again, thinking about it, i don't know if ever want to play MP1 again)
― Nhex, Thursday, 31 December 2009 00:45 (sixteen years ago)
I never once played those games! Always wanted to. No PC tho :(

nothing for me today. i have half-life and multiwinia, and i can't run the others
― abanana, Thursday, 31 December 2009 17:19 (sixteen years ago)
multiwinia and darwinia worth it?
― lazy cold meat and chocolate seasonal mentality (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 31 December 2009 17:22 (sixteen years ago)
I've never played much multiwinia/darwinia, but I've enjoyed what I've played. Note: there's an xbla version coming out in a few weeks(?) that will probably end up having more players (though will obviously cost more than $3)

I was just watching some youtube videos of Shattered Horizon and that game looks pretty interesting (I'd never heard of it). A multiplayer only FPS in zero (and low?) gravity enviornments!?! has anybody here played it?
― Jeff LeVine, Thursday, 31 December 2009 23:31 (sixteen years ago)
$5!

― Jeff LeVine, Thursday, 31 December 2009 23:34 (sixteen years ago)
That looks pretty slick - i wonder how it plays. Too bad it's DX10 only (no-go for me as an XP dude)
Too bad Medieval ii didn't get a drop - i was thinking of skipping rome and just going straight to that, but since it's the same price as its been all week, i'll wait til the 3rd like a lot of other stuff i'm sitting on. Thinking about darwinia, but i'll probably pass unless somebody jumps up screaming about it
also, any of you holdouts should get SFIV, you punks, that is a crazy good price
― Nhex, Thursday, 31 December 2009 23:48 (sixteen years ago)

Sam & Max Complete (telltale games only) $15DOOM Pack Complete $13.59Mass Effect $5Portal $5RedLynx Trials 2: Second Edition 2.49
― abanana, Friday, 1 January 2010 17:11 (sixteen years ago)
xp as a PC gamer nowadays who doesn't have a pad of some sort? i have both the madcatz pad and a PS2 controller adapter setup
hmm... think i'm gonna have to finally bite on the sam and max games... i think i've waited long enough for this deal... but $15! that's more than i've paid for any game on steam
― Nhex, Friday, 1 January 2010 20:15 (sixteen years ago)
Pad isn't the issue really, it's lag. Bmups on PC have never really worked out for me, just because they're SO timing sensitive (even more than FPS), and I just feel like you can never trust a PC to keep up, cos it's always got other stuff going on in the background. Though to be fair, I haven't tried one for maybe 10 years, and it's potentially something that just isn't an issue like it used to be.
― JimD, Saturday, 2 January 2010 11:07 (sixteen years ago)
very tempted by Mass Effect for 3.75 euros but 12 gigs! and really I have three other rpgs on DS to play first (DQ 5, Suidoken Tierkreis, TWEWY) + I bought the Civ 4 Complete on sale the other night. Plus I have Medieval II to start sometime this spring also. And there is of course no time for any of this. But when I get back to my 360 in Sept. maybe I'll get Mass Effect for it---seems pretty cheap on it too.
― Euler, Saturday, 2 January 2010 11:35 (sixteen years ago)
I have the total opposite attitude Jim! I mean, I played virtually every CPS2 release and half the Neogeo fighters emulated on PC, I really don't see a problem. Even SF3 runs pretty much perfectly now. Maybe you've been burned by bad ports from the '90s? The SFIV PC port is actually pretty well handled, performance-wise.
I've already bought enough stuff to last me through at least the first half of 2010... think i'll just wait until next year for Sam and Max. Still saving my gift purchases for Sunday...

final day of the steam sale - they brought back a bunch of the previous dailies
Defense Grid - $2.49L4D2 - $33.49GTA IV - $7.49Torchlight - $4.99Killing Floor - $4.99STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl - $2.00Bioshock - $4.99
once again giving the middle finger to those who bought Torchlight as a weekend deal for $10 a week ago
But there have been so many good deals that haven't even been highlighted on the dailies... so many to sift through right now for my final purchase and gifting. The Witcher is probably the last one I'm realy considering...
(not to mention the awesome GOG.com sale which I would totally be jumping on, but considering I no less than six games on backlog from that site alone, I've sworn it off until I can get some of that done. that sale ends today too!)
― Nhex, Sunday, 3 January 2010 21:59 (sixteen years ago)
seriously though, get torchlight if you haven't already.
― lazy cold meat and chocolate seasonal mentality (forksclovetofu), Monday, 4 January 2010 02:21 (sixteen years ago)

I was using the rolling PC thread for that but felt kinda shillish to update the thread every few weeks just for GOG and Steam sales. Hope you guys didn't miss $2 Psychonauts this week. Y'all should be hitting CAG constantly anyway for this stuff.

Titan Quest with addon pack is five bucks; will anyone rep for it?― forksclovetofu, Wednesday, February 3, 2010 2:21 PM (50 minutes ago)
from 2006 summer thread:
I have started Titan Quest, it is amusing in the Diablo ways, I suppose. I never played Diablo/Diablo 2, though, so the idea never had a chance to really stale.― Will M. (Will M.), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 19:24 (3 years ago) Permalink
I don't relaly rmeember playing it except vaguely I remember starting it and going "meh" and quitting, so, not memorable. If you have Torchlight play it instead!
― The controls are janky (Will M.), Wednesday, 3 February 2010 20:12 (sixteen years ago)
i do and i will
― forksclovetofu, Wednesday, 3 February 2010 20:20 (sixteen years ago)
Torchlight really put the Diablo bug back in me after ten years, so I'll probably get this. Also, it has multiplayer, which TL sadly does not, and I'm in the mood for that.
― Nhex, Wednesday, 3 February 2010 22:24 (sixteen years ago)
TQ has gotten hype from some quarters too, some prefer it to Torchlight - it's supposedly a lot longer, more diverse environments and better class mixing.
― Nhex, Wednesday, 3 February 2010 22:28 (sixteen years ago)

― Nhex, Thursday, 30 December 2021 18:47 (four years ago)
I think I 100%’d all three of them. The plots are weak and things like the endless climbing get old fast but they’re so picturesque and my brain apparently never gets sick of that “ooh, secret passage!” feeling.
― Dan I., Friday, 31 December 2021 14:30 (four years ago)
is there any exploration in the newer TRs or is it mainly running down a corridor?
― ( X '____' )/ (zappi), Friday, 31 December 2021 14:33 (four years ago)
They borrow heavily from Uncharted, so it’s pretty on rails at times. I think usually the first time you go through an area it’s fairly scripted, but then they open world it afterwards so side quests and stuff feel more free. Like, they give a good illusion of exploration.
― Dan I., Friday, 31 December 2021 15:58 (four years ago)
The second at least* has a couple of big open areas (the size of four or five of the other levels) that you can wander around in - you have plot beacons that tell you where to go next so that frees the developers up to make it looser.
*can't remember the first, haven't played the third yet.
