Gametrailers have been having a "History of Warcraft" series, which are generally pretty interesting, but what I learned from the WoW one (plus some Wiki-ing):

WoW started from two players chatting shit on EverQuest.
One was Rob Pardo, who happened to be Vice President of Game Design at Blizzard.
The other was 'Tigole', aka Jeff Kaplan, just some dude who played a lot of EverQuest, who was then hired as Lead Designer for World of Warcraft.
Tigole's full name is Tigole Bitties <- THIS IS BASICALLY THE POINT OF THIS POST, HOW TO SPOT THE GUY TO GIVE THE KEYS TO THE KINGDOM TO
Rob Pardo staged a riot on Everquest because Paladins and Shadow Knights were out-tanking Warriors.
Some people think that this is why Paladins suck, and why Death Knights will suck.
It's unclear whether this is true, but repeatedly asking this question during Q&A at Blizzcon will get you thrown out. I know, I was shocked too.
Rob Pardo has a bachelor of arts degree in criminology, law, and society!

Andrew Farrell, Thursday, 13 November 2008 08:57 (seventeen years ago)

lol "Tigole Bitties"

Black Seinfeld (HI DERE), Thursday, 13 November 2008 16:23 (seventeen years ago)

get the feeling they have been pulling out resources from wow lately for whatever their next mmo is.

bnw, Thursday, 13 November 2008 18:20 (seventeen years ago)

Guy in my office is in continual state of freaking out because Amazon did not deliver this to his house before he came to work and he's afraid his guild will move on without him.

some dudenik (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 13 November 2008 22:04 (seventeen years ago)

okay I'd like to say the instances are SO MUCH EASIER in this

I just ran around in a group of 70s that cleared out a lvl 75 instance (Ahn'kahet: The Old Kingdom)

Black Seinfeld (HI DERE), Friday, 14 November 2008 07:26 (seventeen years ago)

Were they all super-epicc'd out? I heard that high enough epics can get you through to like... level 75 before you need to work on getting better equipment.

Mordy, Friday, 14 November 2008 07:38 (seventeen years ago)

wrath of the lion king imo

ಥ﹏ಥ (cankles), Friday, 14 November 2008 09:00 (seventeen years ago)

They were needing blues from the instances, so I don't think they were super geared.

Black Seinfeld (HI DERE), Friday, 14 November 2008 13:39 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, but you heard tales from the TBC of people discarding their lvl 60 purples in favour of the greens from Outland. Is that no longer happening?

It's not happening for me. I've been collecting lvl 73 blues that I'm still not sure I would use over my current epic gear, some of which still is from Kara.

one month passes...

Oh my!

hyggeligt, Thursday, 8 January 2009 09:44 (seventeen years ago)

When I played I used to have a ton of addons, and my screen didn't look like that. There are addons that make your WoW look nice and neat and shuffles everything to the sides. (Also, no threat meter? Clearly a non-raider!)

Mordy, Thursday, 8 January 2009 09:57 (seventeen years ago)

That's an incredibly bogus article.

^likes black girls (HI DERE), Thursday, 8 January 2009 14:25 (seventeen years ago)

Now now no need to get defensive.

hyggeligt, Thursday, 8 January 2009 15:44 (seventeen years ago)

terrible ui is terrible

bnw, Thursday, 8 January 2009 15:50 (seventeen years ago)

UI with every interface popped open is cluttered, OMG ALERT TEH MEDIAS

^likes black girls (HI DERE), Thursday, 8 January 2009 15:59 (seventeen years ago)

I am still WoW-ed (lol pun!) at the number of add ons required tbh!

hyggeligt, Thursday, 8 January 2009 16:09 (seventeen years ago)

none of those are required, maybe vent since no one uses the in game voice.

bnw, Thursday, 8 January 2009 16:17 (seventeen years ago)

Obviously voice communication has its downsides, though it's fairly easy to tell the complete idiots using their keyboard skills. I've been removing more and more add-ons after my return to WoW - the Titan Panel plugin that tells you what the least valuable thing in your bag is (and lets you click to drop/sell it) is the one that gets most of the use, I think. Well, that and Atlas.

Andrew Farrell, Friday, 9 January 2009 10:24 (seventeen years ago)

Oh yeah: Atlas is an addon which maps out dungeons for you (because the regular map goes away have you have to make do with the mini map in the top right), and say which bosses are where, and Atlasloot is an addon which says what they drop, which has proved useful in persuading people to try optional bosses: "This guy over here has this loot on him, wouldn't you like that? (and also will be interesting to fight, which is what you're supposed to be here for, right?)"

Also I have been away for a while, and the Achievements section is having a disastrous effect on me. "Can't level up my unarmed skill to 400? I think you'll find I can!". But it is a lot of fun to EG go visit lvl 20 alliance instance The Deadmines as a lvl 50 horde, particularly when you get bored of killing everything and just stealth to the last boss. "That's some fine guarding you guys are doing there, keep it up!"

Andrew Farrell, Friday, 9 January 2009 11:22 (seventeen years ago)

How's everyone's raiding going? My guild is going to be killing Malygos this week on 25-man ^_^

^likes black girls (HI DERE), Wednesday, 14 January 2009 17:30 (seventeen years ago)

Still soloing, but I haven't even bought the first expansion yet.

How do the heroic level dungeons go? Is the easiest Lich King dungeon on heroic tougher than the toughest on regular?
